  • Great Drama from The King's Speech (2010). Geoffrey Rush and Colin Firth at their best in the greatest drama of 2010. One of the most memorable scene from 2010. I haven't seen a better English language drama from 2010 than this. A movie that can keep audiences glued to their seats till the end.

    "You're the bravest man I know. You'll make a bloody good King." So much emotion. Watched this in the theater with my father shortly before he died and he cried. I said Dad, what's wrong? Dad said "I'm just so damn proud of him."
    Dad explained that when he was a child in the 1940s, he saw George VI on television and thought he was the most impressive man in the world.

    A moral? In order to beat your obstacles, you must be taken out of your comfort zone. He was always confronted by him... he was always questioned. And that's the gist of our lives... sometimes, the person who most helps us is the one who most makes us go berserk.

    0:41 When I saw this in the cinema in Australia, everyone laughed. It was such a well done moment.
    Aussies are known for ‘larrikin’ spirit and snubbing our noses at authority figures, particularly the British.
    To see Louge, not just sitting, but leaning, cross legged on St Edward’s Throne as though it’s a lounge chair, just perfectly embodied the amount of cheek Australians love.

    Such a good scene, my friends and i saw this (must have been 17 at the time?) in the cinema and the whole place was packed but so quiet. Scenes so perfectly written and filmed like this just touched you and sent inspirational shivers down your spine, save for the parts where he's swearing through which the whole screen was roaring with laughter

    "I have a voice," according to the movie, is what Lionel learned treating Australian WWI returned soldiers suffering shell-shock (who had been expendable cannon fodder and thereby had 'no voice'). All along, Lionel had quietly needled Berty into re-acquiring his voice, which had been taken away when he was young, rather than continuing to hide behind the injury.

    Possibly one of the best movies I have ever seen. And to think, King George the VI MAY have been on the throne in MY lifetime, and that the "Queen Mother" was his wife and Queen Elizabeth is his daughter! Brilliant casting, production, and the music was awesome. I certainly took notice of the hottie Colin Firth after seeing this and he deserved the Oscar for his role as King George, VI. Loved it! This scene is one of my favorites!!

      Most 'angry' words are single syllables, used in short sentences. Easy to think, and say, and little need for composition in the mind.
      (In fact, they are too easy to think and say, which is why they sound pretty bad when one has had time to think it over.)

    Un très grand merci! Si vous avez encore un petit peu de temps, j'ai aussi une autre petite question. Quand Elizabeth arrive chez Logue pour la 1ère fois, celui-ci est aux toilettes. Il dit une phrase qui est sous-titrée "je suis au petit coin". J'ai consulté les dicos en ligne. Ils donnent tous quelque chose comme "je paie un penny" qui est une expression amusante mais qui ne semble pas du tout être celle dite par Logue. Si vous vouliez bien m'éclairer! merci d'avance!

    J'aimerais beaucoup avoir le texte original du dialogue de cette scène. Il y a des mots que mon oreille ne parvient pas à saisir. Par exemple après que Logue ait dit "bouclez-moi dans la tour" quelle phrase dit exactement Georges VI? Et si c'était possible j'aimerais aussi le texte de la scène précédente dans Westminster Abbey. Ainsi quand George VI présente Logue à l'archevêque j'entends "my speek service" et ce n'est sans doute pas du tout ça. Un très grand merci pour vos réponses.

    @abach6 12 років тому

    @Skyduke Mon cas est désespéré mais j'éprouve beaucoup de plaisir à voir et revoir le film en VO sous-titré en anglais que j'ai trouvé sur amazon.co.uk. J'ai trouvé aussi le script. Il y a encore une phrase de Logue qui m'échappe dans cette scène et qui est sous-titrée en français par "vous gobez ces fariboles". Elle n'est mentionnée ni dans le script ni dans les sous-titres anglais. Alors, si vous avez envie d'exercer votre oreille, écoutez bien et écrivez-moi si vous avez la solution. Merci!
