As much as I didn't like it the first time watching, given how grim it is, I have to agree. This really inspired a lot of other great content in the TtTE fan community, and also introduced Alfred as a new villain.
I remember watching these back in 2009, back when Thomas trainz content was simple but beginning to grow. I always loved the camera work and atmosphere this series had and I think my favourite scene is definitely the opening of the final attack. Just seeing the remains of the engines who were killed really pulled at the heart strings along with the music that accompanied it. And let's not forget the one thing people would remember this series for: Alfred. I'm really surprised how popular he became in the fandom and is a character who is still used to this day in other productions. I still look back on Sodor Dark Times as one of my biggest inspirations to make my own films. I look forward to the new Sodor Dark Times with much anticipation.

I've heard of this series for a looooong time, but never found the time to watch it. With this 10th Anniversary Compilation, I decided to finally give it a watch. And my god... this series sure lived up to its name. Richard, you magnificent fellow. You weren't just a talented modeller, you were a fantastic writer for such a dark take on the beloved children's icon.

It was so well written and my still young heart still held onto Thomas with an innocence that was not meant to last. I was saddened by this trilogy.... I did wonder if I would ever look at Thomas the same way again. 10 years later, I still see it the same way, but now with an equal balancing of optimistic beauty and gritty realism. Thank you for making this trilogy. It helped Thomas move with me from the dying world of childhood memory into the world of endless potential. No more steam=good and diesel=bad, no more "luckily no one was hurt", no more existing in a world free of human suffering and triumph, Sodor left the land of make believe and entered into my world.... as was meant to all along.
Henry Dies, World War 2 comes & Alfred comes to Sodor then Gordon finds out that Alfred is here to bomb the railway and killed Henry. After that Gordon & Alfred take an Express run & Gordon finds out that Alfred was the same engine 98462 who tried to kill Henry before in the Early Years while resting in the sheds, but before he can save his Freinds Alfred derails him & escapes, Gordon is too late and all but him & Toby survived, Soon the controller retired out of sadness and Alfred was beginning to bomb other areas, even his own Brother Cecil, when Gordon finds out his Brothers are next he and Toby try to reach there to stop it, but Toby couldn’t get there so Gordon got to the sheds and Killed Alfred & Himself And Toby went to work with Gordon’s Brothers and Sodor was never the Same again

I was six years old when I first watched it. And I’ve watched three or four times over the years. Because at first I didn’t fully understand the situation. But now after this so many years. I’ve come to see it all with different eyes. As the masterpiece it really is.
I feel like maybe Percy is still alive. I mean maybe he was in the sheds or something because he was depressed over Henry's death. We also never see his body in the rubble. No one knew where he was, so they assumed he was next to the bomb and it completely destroyed him.
People have already begun making their own versions of this series, like Trains4Days, but with different stories yet some of the same elements as this.

One Decade, This Movie has been out for a decade and it still is one of the most saddening, heartbreaking and powerful movies that has ever been put out by the Thomas community, In my books, It is my personal second favourite Thomas film Behind Tobias And The Half Pariah, And I say it still holds up in today’s standards, thank you Skarloey123 for making such a powerful film.
I saw these when I was around five and saw them out of order. I saw episode 2 because I had seen the promotional videos with Alfred and wanted to know who he was. I then saw the first episode and was so upset at Henry’s death that I decided to never watch another Dark Times video. As such a missed out on the bittersweet ending for a few years.
This Trilogy inspired me to write my own Sodor based stories and post them to the SI3D forums all those years ago. Not long after, I created this channel and began work on my own characters and stories. Now I’m going through a huge canon reset but all my inspiration can still be traced back to these videos. They didn’t just inspire the Thomas YT fandom but allowed for the creation of new communities, that’s why they’ll always be my favourite and rightly so for being an epic masterpiece of writing and editing!
Fans of 98462 & 87546 note: this is where it all started for those 2 as far as fanwork is concerned. Come to think of it, I don’t think anything’s been done with those 2 outside of fanwork (barring that 1 picture).
