Congrats on the little angel. Having a daughter is something special, I have two boys, two girls, I love em all equally but there's just a certain bond between father and daughter that's like nothing else.
Thank you, Matt and Tim. Some beautiful gear at this price point; we're getting to the point where it's too beautiful to drag along with me when bank fishing. I've had my SLX70 MGL for a while now, and still love it. Great recommendation. A small detail for you to consider: You may want to have a look at the Intenza link; it took me to the model with the foam grips, not the cork one like Tim was holding. Older model maybe? Thanks as always for these amazing guides; good luck to those heading out to have a go at the bass today and have a great Sunday everyone!
Always enjoy! Thank you for all you do. Cannot say that enough you guys have changed my fishing forever. Just sitting here banging on my drum. Amazon Amazon Amazon.
So Happy to say you guys are an imminence when it comes to these reviews!! really also enjoy your vast knowledge and experience that it's been given out for free and trust me, I have put some of this knowledge to practice at my own budget and have not been dissapointed. Never stop doing these reviews for our own sake, I really appreciate from the bottom of my heart. Merry Christmas to Ya'll and beautiful Families, God Bless.
Just pulled the trigger on the concept c2! You've talked about it several times now. It's saltwater friendly so truly a duel purpose workhorse for my salmon and bass. Thanks guys.
Hey Guys this is my area right here where I top out. As far as budget anyway. You have me very interested in the Victory series Swimbait rod for sure. You said dedicated wake rod, and thats my jam. I got a Curado 200 mgl this year for my 795 fury for wakes and glidebaits in the 3 oz and under range and its absolutely amazing!! Ive beat the breaks off my Curado 200ks for the last 4 to 5 years throwing Baits up to 4 ounces even and I know I don't have to tell you how good they are but they have held up to all my abuse like no other. The I hope the 200 mgl is just as durable. I bomb big baits with it and it's butter! I like that smaller profile and lighter rod for all day Swimbaits. Great stuff guys!
This is my wheel house and where my budget is for sure up here in Ontario Canada. I am a big fan of 13 Fishing and have Fate Black, Omen Black and Muse rods and they are amazing! Anywhere from $100 to just under $250 CAD before taxes when not on sale. The 13 Fishing Meta rods are nice but they do not have cork handles and they are pretty much the Omen Black III rods in a different top sheet and marketing. Haha. Can't wait to see the boogie rods and reels you guys pair next. Awesome!
Would love if each one of these guides also included a category for "If you can only pick one rod" for spinning and casting. That way people can only afford one go to rod have a good recommendation to base their decision off of!
Picked up the Orochi XX Braillist this year and just like my Destroyer FMJ it is an absolute dream to fish! I can’t wait to get to the delta and try a chatterbait on it.
Great video! Love emm.. just got a slx xt for my birthday and have a tatula 100 on the way.. ark cobb series 7'5" heavy also.. just waiting for spring in maine.. happy holidays Matt and Tim.. appreciate you guys!
Without a doubt the best Baitcasting Reel under 150 bucks is the Shimano SLX MGL 70, it’ll cast with a medium rod 1/8 ounce anything as far you want to throw it or a weightless soft plastic. I am saving for one now after using a friend’s reel.
Great video guys! I recently purchased a Metanium DC XG and was wondering what techniques you all primarily use it for, I didn’t realize it was only a 100 size when I bought it.
Y’all should try the Victory 7’10” hair jig and 7’10” Spy Bait rods…they easily will outcast the 902S and 7’6” Steez and are a fraction of the price…especially when on sale.
Been looking to upgrade my setup and was wondering if the Shimano Curado K for $160 is still worth getting in essentially 2024. Or would something like the new Tatula 100 be a better buy for that price point.
Interested in that intenza line. Is there a good jig rod in that line up? Looks like the mod fast options are glass? Or would you recommend a st croix instead for jigs?
I believe alot of people are having problems out of the slx xt, not sure why it isn't as durable as the other slx reels, but I had one tear up. I know one of my other buddies had one tear up on him as well, and I spoke to a guy at a tackle shop who said they had alot of them coming in broken for some reason.
@@sambageian mine lasted close to a year, and I loved it until it crapped out, which normally I wouldn't have had a 2nd thought about it, but then I started hearing other people having issues with them.
The st croix victory series is seriously awesome. Ive always been a fan of SC as a company and when they released the victory line, i went all in. For my budget and what i can justify spending, it really is the perfect solution. Think I'm up to 8 or 9 of them now...sucks yall wont be doing a 400 price point, but thats ok, i think we would see some repeat rods, just better reels. Curious, have you guys ever had any experience with Falcon rods? I have a couple of their cara series and they've been phenomenal. Thanks again guys.
We own a handful of Falcons. At there respective price points we weren't blown away, but they are still excellent rods. In fact, I have one retired that I caught two 12 lbers on ☺️
@@tacticalbassin Gotcha. I can see where you would come to that conclusion, I got mine on sale, so it was a no brainer. What do you guys do with your retired rods and reels anyway? I'm sure walking into your storage areas is like a full blown tackle shop 🤣
@@tacticalbassin😂 my rods only get retired when they break. And those broke rods get all the guides removed for repair parts for my other rods. I’m still using some rods made in the 80s.
Curious on your thoughts for the best $130-$200 best crankbait rod for a SPRO rock crawler. We throw a lot of rock crawlers where we are located. I have always felt like the glass rods don’t have the same sensitivity the composite rods do, but you guys have had your hands on a bunch of options. Please help. lol Appreciate yours guys channel so much!
Some of the newer glass rods are remarkable and can absolutely do the job. While they may not be quite as sensitive as a full composite rod, they're so much better than the glass rods of the past. We've thrown the rock crawler on a ton of different rods in recent years just to get a feel for it. I've found rods up to 7'6" that throw it well, and also rods all the way down to 6'10". The key is a rod that loads deep to keep those small trebles pegged. Do you have a length range you prefer ?
@@tacticalbassin we fish lakes that are highland reservoirs so long cast are pretty important and I feel that I would like to stay above a 7’ rod to help with that some.
Kinda irrelevant but do you guys still use the blood knot for braid to leader? Got a striper trip coming up and will be using 100 lb max cuatro and shock leader 35lb
I completely understand why you guys don't recommend any custom rod builders. But....the best value can be had from a custom builder. As a builder, for $250-300 I'm building with Ti guides, carbon fiber grips, and the best blanks from Rod Forge or NFC. People should consider looking local
My buddy builds rods as a hobby and he's built me a few with NFC blanks and they're just down right awesome. The latest one is a ML x-ray spinning rod that I have paired with a Shimano ultegra and man...that thing is amazing.
Guys, thank you for all your hard work this year and all the years before (be sure to pass on a thank you to your wives too, because I know they have a hand in this channel as well). Thanks to this channel, I have become a better angler, learned better techniques and now have a depleted bank account😆. I wish both of your families great health and a Merry Christmas. God bless
I’m looking to upgrade my bladed jig rod especially since I saw your reply to my comment I made yesterday and I now know that all rods are discounted even if they can’t show it. My question is what do you guys think about the G Loomis IMX Pro bladed jig rod? I’m using a Daiwa Rebellion 7 foot 4 heavy glass rod right now and although I like the rod, I feel it’s lacking in sensitivity. I fish a lot of heavy grass and I feel like it’s near impossible to snap the chatterbait out of the grass clean with the glass rods I’ve used in the past so that’s why I want to try the graphite Loomis rod. The Loomis is really expensive so I wanted to get your guys opinion on it before I pull the trigger. Should I just buy something a little cheaper and put more money in to a bottom contact rod? I do fish a bladed jig quite often and I feel like I’m missing bites on the slower glass rods because of the lower sensitivity.
We never want to spend your money for you but if its in your budget and you want an opinion... the Loomis is both Tim's and my bladed jig rod. We both love that thing!!
What was St Croix thinking messing around with the Mojo line period? They increased the price on the same SCIII blank and put a horrible synthetic cork handle on it when you can get a better Victory rod for $20 more
Just a quick thing to point out on TW’s website- yes there’s a sale on rods but there are so many excluded brands including almost all that you mention in the video and that we would buy (Daiwa, Shimano, 13, etc). Am I missing something here?
You are, but it's not your fault. They're ALL on sale but MAP pricing requirements don't allow them to say it. Make your purchases and you'll see it reflected on the receipt 👍🏼
@@tacticalbassin ahhh interesting ok thanks, thinking about pulling the trigger on an Expride but waiting for it to make an appearance in your next couple of combo videos first lol
Thank You Matt and Tim for all the work you put into these videos to help us make wise purchases. This and tomorrow's video is where my 4 rod and reel combos exist from other videos. That Victory rod Tim talked about with a lews BB1PRO reel, you want to send a bomb casr? The combo will do it.
That BB1 pro is phenomenal at bombing casts...you really want to see what it can do? Upgrade the spool bearings to ceramic and watch your lures fly...it's nuts.
I am not debating wheter your choices represent good products or not, but why don't you ever mention Basspro rods and reels? I have used these for over 20 years and find them to be very good and can stand up against the most expensive rods and reels I own. Is it because you are largely sponsored by Tackle Wharehouse and they don't sell BP? When I first started watching Tactical Bassin I feel you where way more fair and unbiased on your lure, rod and reel choices. I only ask that you be fair to other brands and not solely push the products that TW wants you to push. Please tell me why and if I am wrong.
I hate that Tackle Warehouse doesn't show how many pieces their rods are, I know most are 1 piece and 2 piece categories but certain models could be 1 or 2 piece based on power and action. I am looking for a 2 piece drop shot rod to pair with a Miravel, any recommendations?
Almost everything in bass fishing is one piece, the few that aren't are listed as 2 piece on Tackle Warehouse. You can search "2 piece" in the search bar and they'll come up. Those close out St. Croix Mojos would be a great option.
@@tacticalbassin I appreciate the response. I was looking for a medium light extra fast, but the closest thing I see available is a medium light moderate and a medium fast rod. I already have a medium fast rod, should I keep looking for a medium light extra fast for a proper dropshot rod?
Matt and Tim, thank you for your videos 🐟💦 In a neat story dad has left me with some really old fishing lures. In the early 1960s dad used to rent Rapala fishing lures for $25 a day. That would be about $100 for today’s value… Most of the people that rented the lures didn’t return them. I have about 10 Rapala Finland fishing lures from the early 1960s. I found one strike king Spence crank bait that is wooden it must be from the early 50s? Wooden fishing lures are really old 40s 50s 60s… It’s fun to research to see what I was left . Do you have any old fishing lures as well ??? your brother Dave from Georgia a.k.a. boat parts lake lol Lanier😎🎅🏻🐟💦💦💦💦
@tacticalbassin the mgl has a specific drag setup, the spring and pin are not vertical to make the clicky sound, and the plastic shrowd is also a locking bushing. I might get some of my stuff powder coated.
You guys never really mention what gear ratio reels you pair with rods. Like 6 gear for Cranks on a medium/moderate or medium/mod-heavy. Some viewers might find useful.
We generally cover it in the description of the combos. The reel will have a listed speed or if it's a brand that uses lettering to denote speed we include that (IE Shimano uses XG for 8:1, HG for 7:1 and nothing for 6:1)
@tacticalbassin I meant like explain it during the video. I learned a lot from you guys and a couple other creators like NDYAK. But I still had to search best gear ratios for techniques around the same time I looked lure techniques paired to rods and in which conditions.
The trigon handle sucks on the baitcasters. Coming from a guy who used almost pure mojo bass rods. I can see it working on a spinning but it soooo uncomfortable on the baitcasters. Maybe if it was a little wider but it basically feels like your holding a nub on the blank with no comfortable way to hold it.
You don't have to spend a lot to get decent stuff and catch fish. My setups are 300ish... I seldom get skunked on a day of fishing and tournaments aren't my thing (to each their own). But I've found there are 3 steps of being a successful fisherman. #1 go where the fish are... #2 figure out what the fish want to eat. #3 See rules 1-2. That's it... A $900 rod/reel aint gonna put fish in the live well if steps 1 and 2 are ignored.
This is absolutely true. Though there are considerations you may not have accounted for. Casting distance needed to reach a target from shore, weight for an angler with bad joints, sensitivity to offset layering in the cold... these are all real problems solved by higher end tackle. That said, you're generally spot on and it's why we cover videos from $100 to enthusiast, and everywhere in between.
Haha sorry about that. You're missing that the rod is on sale 👍🏼 And if you caught the reel on sale at the start of our series you'll make the price point.
Wanted say thank you to Tactical Bassin for notifying me of the Tackle Warehouse sale! Just picked up a Leviathan Alpha soft swim silver for $100 OFF! Got a $450 swimbait rod for $350!!
the fact that they only have certain MHL power rods in zodias and other lines is annoying. we all waited all this time to get rods and they still only put a few on sale. that’s crap
They're all on sale but we couldn't have helped if you didn't make this comment. What you're posted as "on sale" is required to honor MAP pricing requirements. But ALL are actually on sale. Make your purchases, complete the sale, check your receipt 👍🏼 Now you're in the know on how we've all been getting deals for years.
you guys can save more money by buying a gift card for yourself and have it e-mailed, than buy your rod or reel that is onsale and save even more by using the gift card. i just did this today, gift cards are onsale until 12/22

On the intenza 6-9 medium, would it be almost close to the X pride 610 medium for jerkbaiting
Y’all been fishing Palestine Texas?
Matt and Tim, thank you for your videos 🐟💦
In a neat story dad has left me with some really old fishing lures.
Do you have any old fishing lures as well ???
your brother Dave from Georgia a.k.a. boat parts lake lol
Lanier😎🎅🏻🐟💦💦💦💦
You should do 400 and 500 together
What happened to Dobyns Rods?
Finally got my hands on a levante diablo, threw a curado mgl on it with a gomexus handle, drag star will not fit tho.
Bummer!! You should be able to get an aftermarket drag star that's tipped in though.
@tacticalbassin the mgl has a specific drag setup, the spring and pin are not vertical to make the clicky sound, and the plastic shrowd is also a locking bushing. I might get some of my stuff powder coated.
Lol when you're watching the $300 combo video, and realize you're now a high end Bougie guy 😢😂😂😂
Ha! It happens quick!!
Hi 🎉
#3= Enjoy the fishing
Pay attention to what there saying
What am i missing? I priced out the MegaBass and 13 fishing combo and its near $400.
Pair it with an SLX reel and it'll get you in the $300 range pretax. TB is notorious for that 😂
Haha sorry about that. You're missing that the rod is on sale 👍🏼 And if you caught the reel on sale at the start of our series you'll make the price point.
@@tacticalbassin, and that right there is the whole problem with how TW structured their sales event.
No fury series 😢
They have been out for years now, gotta use newer rods!
Falcon Lowrider beats many of those at 130 bucks
Wanted say thank you to Tactical Bassin for notifying me of the Tackle Warehouse sale! Just picked up a Leviathan Alpha soft swim silver for $100 OFF! Got a $450 swimbait rod for $350!!
Thats awesome!!! Way to go!! 🙌
You guys are forgetting some great dobyns rods and Abu Garcia reels….
the fact that they only have certain MHL power rods in zodias and other lines is annoying. we all waited all this time to get rods and they still only put a few on sale.
Been really into Cashion. ppl ‘dog’ the fit and finish but the action, sensitivity and durability are awesome value. The CK chattergrass for chatterbaits outperforms my super combat stick jackhammer special…
They make some AMAZING actions!!
