Off topic but I would like to see a video of Andy showing us the inaccurate badly made rotters that he must come across from time to to time , a compilation of what guns he would avoid. It might be quite fun

Unfortunately, I don’t think he will. Andy wants to sell guns. Not putting people off buying them.
Although I must say, his reviews are fairly unbiased. He does tell you any faults he finds.

From what I gather, rather than slag a gun off, Andy sends feedback to the manufacturer for improvements. So if there's an item you would have expected Andy to have reviewed, but he hasn't, that might be a clue.

My replacement Defiant ( changed because of leakage) is as different again, with a clean barrel as opposed to the other, which took several patches with barrel cleaner and was still filthy. It didn't group too well either compared to the replacement. So q.c. on the barrels needs improving!!

would be nice to catch a gun review that its shoot is not accurate or its not well built ,has a issue or plainly just average .I have shot FAC for years but looking to get a PCP at some point . I like Andy's channel but my choice has changed down to Andy shining up every gun ,so what I first started looking at was British then Turkish and now over the watching the channel a Czech PCP. So if they are all so good then price has got to be the main objective over accurate shoots as they all can take a fly's eye out at 20M

Morning Andy I have the Umarex Winchester shell ejecting replica and it’s great, it’s bb but I get round the ricochet problem by using excite copper coated lead bb’s. It’s very accurate even though it’s a smoothbore and was £100 cheaper than the Barra, ok it doesn’t have an octagonal barrel and you can’t change calibres but it’s a cheaper alternative for people for pretty much the same experience. I also have the Remington Cowboy 1875 pistol which uses bb’s and pellets for the full cowboy experience 😁

Great video Andy, thanks for posting. Initially an octagon barrel was standard on the 1866 models, although later round barrels were offered in both rifle and carbine versions. Although superseded by the Model 1873 and subsequent Winchester models, the Model 1866 was sufficiently popular to remain in the Winchester line through 1898.

By far the most intriguing rifle reviewed so far this year. Rifled (tick), Hexagonal barrel (tick). Interchangeavble barrels (not needed but nice thought (tick). Price (half tick). Paint finish (half tick). Power (x). I know what you mean about the hexagonal barrel. When I bought my Henry rimfire underlever I just had to have the hexagonal barrel. I was almost reaching for my wallet on this, but the power level is a little weak. O.k, it;s a plinker, but 6ft/lbs would jhave sold it to me. It would have been nice to see it paper pinching, even if it is a plinker.

Are you sure about that? Henry rifles have traditionally been tube fed magazines, whereas Winchesters were side loaders. It’s only been in the last 10 years that Henry has introduced side loaders (although they still retain the option to tube load. And they only offer the side load Option on about 5 of their many rifle types.

Oliver Winchester purchased Volcanic arms where Benjamin Henry was a gunsmith designer. Winchester contracted with Henry to make the Henry rifle and obtained the patent.
After a fall out and court case, Winchester gave Henry the factory but he held the rights. Winchester bought a new factory and his chief designer was Nelson King. King created the side load, known as the King gate.
Because Winchester (a shirt manufacturer) was relatively unknown, they advertised the ‘66’ as the improved Henry, which people were very familiar with. The 1873 model was sold as Winchester.

That would be great practice for Cowboy Action shooting on keeping your rhythm up for folks that live in town, Andy. I do suggest trying keeping the butt stock up to your shoulder when levering another round, you'll be surprised how faster you will be (and go thru your rounds ). Thanks for this video, I'll have to pick one of these for my grandsons 3rd birthday, "Long live TEXAS"

Am I wrong here but is the barrel not got 8 sides making it octagonal and not a hexagonal which had 6 sides.

I wonder if the underlever mechanism is made of proper hardened steel or if it will break after cranking it a couple of hundred times.

Why don't you leave it shouldered when running the lever you can stay on target better and shoot of rounds faster.

Since my childhood and the John Wayne movies, I have dreamed of owning a Winchester.
Even though I spent 10 years as an armorer in NATO dealing with real weapons, I'm going to buy one 😄👍

Nice looking rifle. I have the Umarex Legends Co2 Lever Action .177 and absolutely love it. How does the Barra compare to the Umarex?

Well slap some bacon on a biscuit !!
Looks like a great garden plinker and I'm with you, that octagonal barrel is rifle p@£n . Had me pausing and re winding anyway !!!! Love how it loads , love how it ejects , drooling over the lever action . I'd even ignore the faux wood . The price unfortunately is what's going to drive this outta Dodge for most I think .

I'd like to have seen the cartridge cases a bit closer up. I'm curious as to how the pellet bites into the rifling.

Nice video as allways Andy. I am a bit dassapointed though, about Barra making it historically incorect with the octanical barrel. Now i would really like a replica of my favorite Winchester, the model 1873. Idont care if it is made by Umarex or Barra. Have a nice day.

Nerd time (see "Winchester...An American Legend by R.L.Wilson Page 26). The hexagonal barrel featured in the first named "Winchester" under lever in 1866 and was nicknamed the "Flatside"). I have 3 FAC Winchesters and a stainless steel Umarex under lever with scope (as per Jurassic Park) - great fun. Just watch out for dirt on the expelled dummy cartridges. This Barra looks fine but not sure why you would want to change barrels - the .22 is best for plinking?

Run that lever gun by giving it a twist as you work the lever so it’s more wrist less elbow to speed up the follow-up shot 😊

This Winchester Barra 1866, changing the barrel, if you can shoot Cup pellets, it is a very good idea, it is formidable, if an exporter brings it in my country I will buy one, because I really liked its realism.
I think that all the weapons could be made replicas but in this style, with this realism, and of all the weapons that have always been manufactured and from all over the world, congratulations, greetings.😎🍀🕸.

I’d take this over the Umarex versions. Interesting to see if other Barra products make it to the Uk. Also would love the Umarex Notos to come to the Uk.

The original Winchester 1866 improved Henry rifle had an hexagonal barrel and the sytem was made of brass/bronze gun metal. I own a winchester 1866 Yellowboy sporting rifle.

I nearly got excited about this UNTIL I realised that it doesn't have the toggle action of the original; instead they've used the Umarex 1894 action which is disappointing. Incidentally, I shot my Canadian cousins antique 1894. It had the best balance I've ever experienced on a rifle AND incredibly light so it came to the shoulder brilliantly. The action was as smooth as silk.

That is one nice gun, could well become an adult version of the kids game made by Ideal in the mid 1970's.
