I know lots of fans talk shit about Jerry, but I met him last week after a show, and he seemed like one of the most humble rock stars I've seen. He was all about the fans. Stayed after the show almost an hour just to sign autographs for people. Constantly asked "you guys have a good time?" "you all have fun?" "how'd it sound?" It was very cool of him to be that way.
People must've forgotten that Jerry is a nice Italian Catholic guy from New Jersey and he doesn't hang upside down from rafters in castles or live in a casket when he's not out touring. Good on him for speaking his mind, that's what punk is all about.
Honestly, in todays day and age, thats pretty brave for Jerry to come out and say Jesus Christ is his saviour, especially in the punk/metal scene. I dont believe the same thing he does but i respect him for that.

Well, punk was supposed to be a departure from all things contrived, manufactured and fake. Authenticity was the word for the day. I don't think these guys ever considered themselves punk. Someone said they were punk. I don't put them in the same category as say, the Exploited. It was always campy and entertaining. They didn't really want to hack the heads off little girls. Extremely based Only. Glory to God. Pointing out how hardened peoples hearts become due to some of the stuff out there; hardened to family, that which is good, joy, and ultimately God, etc, is virtually never heard from artists.
Glen got his creativity from all that dark stuff. That's where his best work came from. I would probably be more like Jerry, but I loved Danzig as a kid. It helped get me through tough times. It may not be a positive "influence", but music doesn't have to be like that. I never went around quoting every musician I liked like it was gospel. I couldn't even understand the lyrics half the time. I just loved the energy and needed to get a little pissed off once in a while as a way of setting boundaries in a tough world(even if it was just in my own head).
I respect Jerry for this. Life is about more than trying to be evil, it's not something that should be promoted to young people. I got lost in all of it myself for so long, I'm just now mature enough to repent and move past all those roadblocks that have hindered my growth for so long. Peace and much love!

I met with and did a quick interview with Jerry Only in 07 in Honolulu before the Misfits New Years Evil show (last time I saw the Misfits live was 1982 and 83.) I don't buy religion (I'm at best agnostic but it's pretty easy to say I'm a part time atheist) but Jerry was a really nice guy, let me shoot soundcheck, and gave me all access (we had a mutual friend in Marc Rude, who did their second album cover- so I kind of was lucky to have an in.) But he was a really nice guy, and a pretty agreeable person to be around, considering they had flown 8 hours or so to play a show that while sold out wasn't their usual money-making endeavor.
Haha I was at the same show I think. He stayed after the concert for like an entire hour to sign anything, hug or talk to anyone on the audience floor. Staff was sweeping the floors, and he was still there!
jerry is a really chill dude. I once was invited by him to kick it on his tour bus in LA at the music convention...met his son and doyle...and spent about 2 hours shooting the shit about any misfits question/danzig topic we threw at him as young 15 year olds....was pretty rad.

Jerry is the complete opposite of his brother Doyle, during their interviews. -Interviewer asks Jerry a question, Jerry will give a complete speech to answer the question. -Interviewer asks Doyle a question, Doyle will give maybe a 1-3 word answer. Nothing wrong with either one, huge fans of both. Just funny how opposite they are, in scenarios such as interviews.
I can respect his attitude. Horror punk is all about having fun. It's kind of like living every day like it's Halloween. It isn't meant to be taken seriously or necessarily going to a dark place. I remember when Jerry and his friend doyle were about 20 years old they had given a similar interview where the takeaway from it was We play on stage as long as we can, after that we hit the gym because we are all nuts about it. One other thing Jerry would say more than once, As long as you hang around with us you wont ever see any drugs or any kind of other trash.. Danzig is the reason MOST Misfits fans like the band in the first place, because of all the brilliantly violent, imaginative classic songs he wrote for the band, and for his unique vocal delivery and charismatic presence. They have NEVER been the same band since Glenn departed, despite Only's numerous attempts in vain to HIJACK the Misfits brand, and his constant failure to make one of HIS Misfits lineups the DEFINITIVE version, a task that is simply IMPOSSIBLE at this stage. Whatever chance he had of doing so 20 years ago, he has absolutely NO CHANCE of doing it now. Fiends LOVE the Misfits of old, and, unless Danzig returns, the original band is better off left alone, rather than being dragged around the world by Jerry Only, as all he's doing is dragging the band name into disrepute, with the danger of turning the Misfits into a joke, or a parody of themselves. I met Jerry a year ago and spoke with him for like 30 min. Such a nice guy. I used to not really like him but now he's my favorite from the Misfits. Really humble and funny. Misfits 4 Ever!

Its pretty cool being a dad in his 40's and seeing one of your favorite bands in interviews and seeing how wholesome and upstanding people they are.
I feel like the Danzig era is the true Misfits, and the "new" misfits is a completely different band, just with the same name.

Glen got his creativity from all that dark stuff. That's where his best work came from. I would probably be more like Jerry, but I loved Danzig as a kid. It helped get me through tough times. It may not be a positive "influence", but music doesn't have to be like that. I never went around quoting every musician I liked like it was gospel. I couldn't even understand the lyrics half the time. I just loved the energy and needed to get a little pissed off once in a while as a way of setting boundaries in a tough world(even if it was just in my own head).
I respect Jerry for this. Life is about more than trying to be evil, it's not something that should be promoted to young people. I got lost in all of it myself for so long, I'm just now mature enough to repent and move past all those roadblocks that have hindered my growth for so long. Peace and much love!
The Misfits are the only Punk band that is actually Punk. these days. Everyone else sold out to the political "Elite" and Leftists. Punk (created in opposition during the cold war) was supposed to be non political, anti establishment and anti communist (Pro America/Free Market).

People need to stop bashing on Jerry because of his religious beliefs and morals. The guy is 54, a father and a husband. He has responsibilities. You have to grow up sometime. As an old fart, I actually like the message he had in this interview, and even though he and Glen may not see eye-to-eye on certain issues, he never once was insulting toward Danzig and Jerry came off as a super classy guy...Now, when I was a young little punk 14-year-old dickhead who (thought I) knew everything when this interview took place, I probably would have thought jerry was "lame", but as a 40 year old, I thought his message was very positive.

I am a late bloomer on the Misfits. I started really getting into them like 3 months or so ago.. never knew all the band mates names but I kick myself in the ass for missing out on such kick ass music. I saw them around early 2000 in my small town, jerry was the only original missfit, but it was still epic, i got to meet him, hes a real nice guy.
I met with and did a quick interview with Jerry Only in 07 in Honolulu before the Misfits New Years Evil show (last time I saw the Misfits live was 1982 and 83.) I don't buy religion (I'm at best agnostic but it's pretty easy to say I'm a part time atheist) but Jerry was a really nice guy, let me shoot soundcheck, and gave me all access (we had a mutual friend in Marc Rude, who did their second album cover- so I kind of was lucky to have an in.) But he was a really nice guy, and a pretty agreeable person to be around, considering they had flown 8 hours or so to play a show that while sold out wasn't their usual money-making endeavor.

He stayed after the concert for like an entire hour to sign anything, hug or talk to anyone on the audience floor.

jerry is a really chill dude. I once was invited by him to kick it on his tour bus in LA at the music convention...met his son and doyle...and spent about 2 hours shooting the shit about any misfits question/danzig topic we threw at him as young 15 year olds....was pretty rad.

I can respect his attitude. Horror punk is all about having fun. It's kind of like living every day like it's Halloween. It isn't meant to be taken seriously or necessarily going to a dark place. It's not about satan worship or evil. I mean most of their songs are based on old black and white horror movies. Movies that were fun and maybe a little scary, but not evil.

No, he's a tool because he only sees his narrow minded view of religion; maybe if he'd pick up and read a few books he'd discover what Glenn is really about. Also his idea of Satanism obviously revolves around what he's seen in the movies and media hysteria of the 80's. Jerry's clinging onto the same image that he had in the late 70's/early 80's, if he had any dignity he would have formed his own band and let it stand on its own instead of using the Misfits (you know like Glenn did; Samhain, Danzig, several solo projects). I remember when Jerry and his friend doyle were about 20 years old they had given a similar interview where the takeaway from it was We play on stage as long as we can, after that we hit the gym because we are all nuts about it. One other thing Jerry would say more than once, As long as you hang around with us you wont ever see any drugs or any kind of other trash..

It's as simple as this for me when it comes to the Misfits... GLENN DANZIG IS WHAT MADE THE ORIGINAL MISFITS SO MAGICAL! Danzig is the reason MOST Misfits fans like the band in the first place, because of all the brilliantly violent, imaginative classic songs he wrote for the band, and for his unique vocal delivery and charismatic presence. They have NEVER been the same band since Glenn departed, despite Only's numerous attempts in vain to HIJACK the Misfits brand, and his constant failure to make one of HIS Misfits lineups the DEFINITIVE version, a task that is simply IMPOSSIBLE at this stage. Whatever chance he had of doing so 20 years ago, he has absolutely NO CHANCE of doing it now. Fiends LOVE the Misfits of old, and, unless Danzig returns, the original band is better off left alone, rather than being dragged around the world by Jerry Only, as all he's doing is dragging the band name into disrepute, with the danger of turning the Misfits into a joke, or a parody of themselves. All true fans of great punk music LOVE the original Misfits with Danzig, and Jerry Only played a BIG PART in the legacy of this EXCELLENT band, who will ALWAYS own a place in the history of GREAT MUSIC, just a pity he doesn't take his own advice (from this interview) and be more conscious not to FUCK UP the integrity of something as precious and beautiful as the legacy of the MISFITS!
