Seriously, if I had access to that many spools I would make at least 2 more trips and get as many as possible. They're so useful. Even if you didn't utilize them right away you would have them for future projects.

those wire spools with a couple of boards taken out of the side would make wonderful nests for the geese when they start laying - bit of hay and they would be happy with that

I’m surprised y’all did t go to get more spools they would come in handy around the farm in so many ways ! You could build climbing play ground for the goats , make picnic tables in all the areas, use the wood off them to build projects, use the wood to make fence around garden areas , and many other things you could find you might use the spools or the wood from them around the farm, like patching projects where wood is needed!! I love y’all’s Cog Hill 40 farm y’all are working so hard to make a beautiful piece of land into a special place to live for y’all and your babies, and Brookes momma!! Love y’all ❤️🙏🙏🙋🏻

Absolutely, I saw all of that pretty clean wood on the spools and thought the same thing. They could build a few decks along the pond area. Build more randome single Chicken roosts for the solitary wonderers. I was waiting for them to move the picnic tables closer....the farm is so inviting and the Animals are loving their new digs! Great job!!

Get 3-4 sized SPOOLS then add a wood panel that resembles a large COG with teeth & paint them bright colors. Would create you a cool front yard display for your flower garden market.

    • @glimpses443
      @glimpses443 2 роки тому

Get the biggest size and just turn the on side and cut the tops and bottoms a few chunks out in the shape of cogs and paint. paint cog on one hill on another farm on another. Then get 3 smaller ones and make cogs "rolling" up towards animals that say Jason Brooke and Marycarl. Then ome in each pem with the animals names from that pen painted on. Maybe could make a spool amd liicense plate mountain of some sort attaching spools. or use them along the right side the large pasture pond side (not the animal side) of the road leading to the house as "fenceline".

MARYCARL!!!! My grandson sometimes watches with me. He wants to tell MaryCarl, to “pump it” and she will go really high and really fast on her swing. When she starts to swing back, to lean forward, and put her feet back, bend her knees. Then when going forward, to lean back with legs straight, and keep “pumping it”, and she will go real high! (Edit) she probably already knows, but I had to post it. I thought it was too sweet. And tell her I just love that fluffy white silkie that is in this video. Too cute! Much love, from KY!

SEE TOY FOR NUGGET BELOW: Great job family, go get some more for the flower garden area and near the barn to work off of, and for down at pond when y’all get it in, or put one in the chickens area so Scott can get on it when he gets out of holding pen!
If you put one in the chickens paddock,
    make NUGGET A PLAY TOY!
1)put a large long dowel in the middle of the hole,
2)attach a large wooden lazy Susan to the top of the dowel so it can go around.
3)obtain 2 screen door wire weight adjusters that can use screws to be screwed flat on the top of the lazy Susan & these will come apart in the middle and then you’ll have 4pieces of wire to space out evenly on the top of the lazy Susan & screw these down.
4)Use a Vice to bend the wire tip around some kind of chain so it can hang down loosely, you’ll have 4 pcs. now to attach shiny fun objects that Nugget can play with on the TOY turn around in his yard. ANY BETTER IDEAS, Please add to my ideas! I’m just trying to build something for Nugget to be entertained by since he likes shiny objects❤️👍😍

Wow yall are so lucky. Free spools are impossible to find here in Maine, we always have to pay for them. I have many in my goat area and they do use them from time to time. I love how MaryCarl enjoys her swing. Swings really do a lot for our brains. I wasn't aware of all this until I got my sons. Both have sensory processing disorder, at Occupational Therapy they told us swings are the best thing for kids to "reset" their brains. Not only the swingging motion but if they spin on it too, as well as side to side motion. For whatever reason, it helps the brain chemistry go into happy mode. My littles LOVE to swing even at 10 and 12 and will spin for hours (you and I would probably not do so well with it especially after lunch! LOL). Im so glad MaryCarl gets to live her life on your farm the way she does, she gets to explore new things, develop her interests and passions and have two incredible parents who adore and support her. She is so bless as are you! I am thrilled as usual to watch another Cog Hill 40 video! Thanks for sharing! Love to you all from Central Maine.

A friend of mine in 1974 made all her furniture out of the spools. Table and chairs. Small spools we made book shelf out of them. She piled them on top of each other 5 high.
She made a head board for her bed. Put a table cloth on her table. She did a nice job. Made plant shelf. All out of spools.
She furnished her apt. Home. She did it all free. Like you. L.O.L. That was fun.

Great snag on the spools. We're still a couple years from putting animals on our farm, but whenever I see spools like that I want to grab 'em up. Screw a couple of pieces of pressure treated 2x4 or 4x4 on the bottom to avoid direct ground contact and they may last longer....they are made out of heat treated lumber and will eventually rot.

I immediately thought of a potential accident also.
      She wants to swing higher.
I think you said that was her goal. Soo
Her rope might be a we bit long for that spool or the ground is too high? It should be long enough to gain momentum from the first push off but not compromise her legs as she passes the ground.
The rope needs to be tied to the spool when she is finished so there is less struggle climbing on and pushing off the first time.
Create a pendulum effect without endangering legs and ankles be a few fast steps, pushing off and returning.
The problem with the second swing out is…She either has to come to a stop on the stool and begin as before. Or use the traditional leg kick pump to swing out again. Because struggling with her toes and ankles on return and second kickoff is an accident waiting to happen.
Have her look up some you tube lake swings to get better ideas than mine.
Or head and wrists falling down.

What a treasure find. We had wire spools we played on and yes ran on the center like log men. It was the best entertainment for everyone. My mom finally cut it down and made it into a large round picnic table in our back yard and the part she cut off she had built into a lounge space in the basement ... covered it with upholstery and made pillows it was amazing. The prices left over she gifted to me to wood burn signs and paint paintings. I sure would love to have one or two here. You are blessed!

I'd get one more and lay it on it's side in the boy's pen for Moody to push around. I bet he'd have a blast!

We had a couple of spools like that when I was growing up. I rolled across the yard on them all of the time. So much fun!

You should get some more spools please. I'd love to see them all around your farm. You could even use some bottoms for a floor of a tree house. You're good at making things. Thank you for sharing your family.

Looks like everyone is enjoying their new wire spools. I suggest securing the hay rack to a couple of t posts to prevent the animals from knocking it over. The farm is coming along nicely

You can put linseed oil to stop the wood from rotting, and you can put some cider blocks in the containers to stop them spilling.

They rot so quick. We put ours up on blocks to keep them off the ground. They last a bit longer that way. 😊

When I was a little girl, we had one of the smaller spools. My brother's took a few of the boards out of the middle. And I would curl up inside the spool, and my brothers would roll me down a hill:). It was so much fun!!!!

Try putting one spool on its side. We buried one of ours about a foot on its side and they love it. They try to balance on that middle part. 😁 Our others are set up like yours.

Nugget says he could use one of those spools. Then the alarm system could get up there and they could have an eye-to-eye security meeting. It's tough keeping their attention when Nugget is talking over their heads.
