I remember to put the vinyl on the turntable, by mistake I put the B-side first, Lifeforce started to play and my life was never the same.....amazing all tracks ,but the first punch...oh my god!!
@@kellyreed8714 That’s amazing. When ‘Time odyssey’ came out 88? Nobody knew Vinny Moore. Except guys I jammed with. I seen Vinny Moore show once back in 93? ‘Meltdown tour (I forget the name that album, released long before that show, Like years? ) There was maybe 30 people in club. Most of em club regulars. Didn’t know who Vinny Moore was. After couple songs they were standing in front of stage. Back then most people never seen guitar players like that.. I wanted to see ‘peices of a picture’ or anything from ‘Time odyessey. They didn’t play anything from (time odyessey) that was my only complaint. But that show turned out to be great night.
I remember getting that album as it came out...man, the 80s was such an awesome time to be a young guitarist working on improving as a musician, it felt like every week someone new appeared with even more inspiration. Vinnie, Marty, Jason, Greg...so many incredible players who kicked my arse and made me get better. Thanks for posting this :)
Exactly the same for me. I read an interview with Vinnie in UK Guitarist magazine at the time and had to buy his album. It blew my brains out! That album and the Randy Rhoads Tribute LP are the ones that started it all for me.
Agreed! I'm 48 so I vividly remember listening to all those great Shrapnel label artists when I was in high school learning how to play. Love Vinnie! So underrated.
I often forget there are other guys and gals just like me out there that share the experience of growing up idolizing all those players you mentioned. Sometimes it feels like nobody cares or remembers these icons and how important they have been in people’s lives. Vinnie literally shaped me as a guitar player. I would never ever claim I’m remotely comparable to Vinnie don’t get me wrong, but I’m so glad I had, WE had, musicians like this to inspire us through our lives. We love ya Vinnie!!!
My ex gf had bad anxiety at night and couldn’t sleep well.. she would have me put on instrumental rock albums. this album would calm her mind and allow her to catch some rest 💫🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎸📶📶📶🌀🤘🏼
He added me on Facebook once. I thought it was a joke at first but it turned out that he read a lot of what I would post about shred guitar, especially the Shrapnel Fraternity. He liked that. My account got hacked after that so I lost that connection but that truly was an honour that at one time he was impressed by my passion for shred guitar that still lives today.
Great to see Vinnie playing material from his first album. Mind's Eye had an immeasurable impact on my musical development. Hope he has a few more Neo Classical albums in him before he's done. Rock on Vinnie!
Vinnie Moore é o melhor guitarrista de todos os tempos. Pela qualidade de suas composições, dos arranjos, o peso e a melodia inigualáveis. Seu primeiro álbum, de onde sai In Control, é incontornável no universo do rock. Love it!
Had Minds Eye on cassette, wore that thing out. Even bought his instructional video which was fantastic. Of all the killer shredders from that era, Vinny has a lot of SOUL
Vinnie will and is always awesome! saw him years back opening for Michael Schenker Group, his tone live and accuracy and feel was devastating at concert volume. amazing memorable show for me that it impacted how I play today....
Other guitar player..."Hey Vinnie, what should I wear tonight?" Vinnie.."Just don't try to look more cool than me." Other guitar player..."You got it!"
Awesome record. I used to play the tape on my Sony Walkman back in 88 on my factory nightshifts as a young guitarist. Taught me so much by listening and opening up my palette. Minds Eye was like manna from Heaven to me. Vinnie went on to other styles but those first two albums are absolute mastery of the craft of neo classical shredding.
i still can't play this song. i've listened to that album so much i feel like i know every phrase on it...well, that song at least. just an amazing musician.
Vinnie is great - like many others, I'm a fan from the beginning. I got to meet him on the tour he did with Gus G. - great show, and Vinnie was hilarious and charming like he is here. He was out in the street clowning around after eating dinner before the show. EDIT: Vinnie has elements of Japanese metal in his playing as well, and that is a group of players that don't get mentioned as root influences enough - Akira Takasaki and Yuji Adachi from Dead End are big ones for me. Anthem is another one.
I was just fading off the scene when Vinnie conquered everyone in sight from Varney records. I wish I had more time with him, but this is amazing to experience decades later!
Some years ago I played this song for a friend. Then he opened his backpack, took out the LP and gave it to me. "I brought it to show you and you played the song, now it's yours."
It's funny how much we all listened to those first releases on that label, there was nothing else out there and there was definitely no streaming any album you want for 2$ like you can today
Good to see he still has his sense of humor. Saw him at a clinic he did a long time ago at a tiny little music store in Portland, Maine and he had the whole place in stitches. Been a fan ever since.
Now that is music from a time when shredding was cool. It is nice to hear a piece of music that stays in a theme and moves around and keeps a listener interested. Great music and great video. Thanks.
I remember when he appeared in Mike Varney’s Spotlight column in Guitar Player magazine. He was only 20 and he played a Kramer Pacer. Great era to be a young guitarist!!
I just recently acquired a Kramer Striker 24 frets in transparent red.I LOVE that Vinnie is playing Kramer superstrat style guitars now!! I have ALWAYS greatly dug Vinnie's playing and music creative abilities!!! He has always been the most musically voiced of all the old Shrapnel Records players....along with Greg Howe!!❤❤
Got to see Vinnie and his band on their Meltdown album tour in a small bar outside of Philly and we got to hang out with them afterwards and bs a little...very cool down to earth guys!!!
Great video! Thank you for posting it! I saw Vinnie at a guitar clinic when I was 17 years old and it changed my life forever! This is my favorite song of his 😁
"MInd's eye" is my favorite album by VM and was such a huge inspiration to me when it first came out in the 80's along with Tony Macalpine's "Maximum Security". Those were the best of times for me as a guitar player because all of the shred style was so new and fresh. back then. These days it is nothing to see kids flying up and down the neck. I hate to say this but seeing/hearing VM here is kind of depressing for me only because of how many years have passed and how long ago this tune was originally played by him. While he is still a great player this does not have the fire and aggression that the youthful Vinnie Moore had in the 80's.
The more I've listened to him over the years the more I've realised how musical his compositions actually are - 'beyond the shredding' if you like. The Maze is my favourite. And so much mileage out of a more basic type of tone too. A good example of it being 'all in the fingers' - keep goin' Vinman - there's so much left to gift!
I still have his hilarious hot licks tutorial on VHS. Love the section on modes as it opened up a whole new world to me learning guitar. Great video man, thanks for sharing.
In the digital age of sharing videos people think prodigies are some sort of new phenomenon. But most of these guys were that good as kids, too. They just didn’t record until they were adults, obviously, as they have to be legal age to sign a contract. But Malmsteen was already a shredder as a young child, and there is video of Becker doing Malmsteen covers in high school. Batio was another one. You have to remember, all these guys debuted in their late teens or early 20’s within just a few years of each other, which means all of them were playing stuff near this level in their bedrooms as teenagers. It wasn’t like Yngwie came out and suddenly everyone learned to play fast, they were all mostly at that level already.
Nice to hear his old tracks/technical playing. Very interesting to hear the original 2-guitar-voice lines that how he plays them in live. When listening the original track it is quite hard to understand how he has formed those 2 different lines. May I ask what Marshall tube head that he was using live? Greetings from Oulu Finland!!! Keep up the touring and good work!!! Antti
Hi Antti! On the stage was a Marshall DSL20 for Vinnie. His pedalboard setup like that; - TC Electronic Polytune Tuner - Dunlop Cry Baby (classic) - TC Electronic Sub'n'up Octaver - Boss Blues Driver - TC Electronic Flashback Delay - Boss DD6 Delay - JAD & FREER Herr Phaser - MXR Smartgate - Mezzabarba Sentinel Power And the guitar was Kramer SM1 Cheers!
I'm always surprised when I watch him, how he can pick so clean with that right hand technique in the faster passages. Yet, never any problems. Has to be hard in his elbow/forearm over time but glad it is holding it. Love Vinnie!
I probably know every note off that album, I played it so much. Glad to see him still shredding out.
Top 10 in that genre
Epic album
Yep 'It being Dated or not..' The Guy Still Has His Chops.. And "Owns It"! Haven't heard this ever since the year (?) that album was released. 😂
What an underrated artist!!! I always loved his phrasing.
What a legend!, I remembered listening to the album "Mind's Eye" over and over when I first received it. All the tracks were amazing!
I did my best at trying to draw that album cover back in high school.
I use to turn it on to wake up before I went to High School. Just listening to it before school got me through the shitty day.
I remember to put the vinyl on the turntable, by mistake I put the B-side first, Lifeforce started to play and my life was never the same.....amazing all tracks ,but the first punch...oh my god!!
I STILL listen to the entire Minds Eye album over and over till this very day…I’ll never get tired of Vinnie Moore…Rock On!!!!

Vinnie Moore jamming Neo-classical guitar metal, Kramer & Fender guitars & a Sig Sauer T-shirt!
🤘🏼🎸👍🏼
Yeah I picked on the OG Sig Sauer tee.
Vinnie is a P.A. Boy!!

Goddam I gotta see this dude before I die. One of the most underrated guitarist of that Era.
fuck, i miss the 80's
Vinnie's music had such a big impact on many players... such a humble person. God bless you 🙏 ❤ 🙌

Minds Eye and Time Odyssey are some of the best instrumental albums ever.
I still have my copy of Minds eye on cassette!
Same here. I'll never part with it even if I never play it again.@@Murphy_R9
This song rips Vinny is such a capable player, his work with Vicious Rumors has that extra edge as well
Vinnie Moore + Mind's Eye = musical nectar of the Gods

Vinnie is one of the absolute best from the 80's and he is still awesome !!!
Minds eye was the first time I ever heard of Vinnie Moore and I absolutely played the shit out it. Awesome to see him still playing.

Holy hell Mr Moore....You're a legend
this guy is clearly a great player, love this song, the execution is on point vinnie still rocks :)
Vinnie’s still got the picking chops. Bravo!!
So happy to see him still elbow picking!!
There was a time he wasn't doing it anymore, or so it seems 😂😂
Minds eye.....best album from Vinnie Moore ☝️😁
Agree!🤘
Such a tasteful player, his vibrato is awesome!

Dig that Sig Sauer shirt too!

😔@64.5years, this is my first experience of Mr. M. Sig shirt gets my approval.
Takasaki is definitely an influence on my playing!

Absolutely brother! When I got hold of this on vinyl back in 1989, I listened to it constantly for months! Blew my mind then and still does.

1986 ! ❤ and Time odessey 1988. Fabulous

Quite nice of VM to give him space too

Melodic and technical but soulful. Great stuff 🎸🤘

Vinnie Moore is still rocking, technically in shape and with great technique 30 years after his debut!
awesome. shredding with such fluid style... love the Sig shirt!
