    Great video. I love me 3 and 1 wt maxcatch rods but your video give me the confidence in getting their Spey setup.

    I have several fly rods and find myself using my Maxcatch 6wt more often. You can't beat the price for a mid range fly rod.

    Thanks for the review. The past Yr I’ve enjoyed learning and fishing a Maxcatch 11’ 4 wt switch rod for trout in PA. Paired it with Maxcatch #4 switch line for wetflies, nymphs and big dry fly hatches. In high water an OPST 400 commando integrated with varying tips loads and casts skagit style nicely. I’m new at underhand casting but really enjoy it. Made a trip to Labrador this summer and got a 5 piece switch rod another Z axis Maxcatch that fit in a carry on. It’s a bit heavy but casts the maxcatch #8 single Spey line nicely. I weighed the head of the 8 wt single Spey line and it was 400 grains. It also casts great on a 9’ 8 wt TFO single hand rod traditional and underhand style casting. Maxcatch products are excellent. The only complaint I have is lack of line wt rating for scandi and skagit lines for each rod. Hoping to use the 7/8 switch rod in the salt this fall for migratory stripers and blues.

      Great report. I’m very pleased to hear you are happy with the Maxcatch products. Sounds like you’ve really done your homework. Good on you and thanks for weighing in with the gray info! I appreciate all of that!

      Ive just bought the 11’ 4 wt switch, waiting for it to be delivered, and Ive cut down an old 9/10wt spey line to make shooting heads as I couldnt really find what I was looking for without either spending too much money, or waiting weeks for them to come from China. How did you find the weight and recovery time of the rod? Ive been using a 7/8wt for my salmon and sea trout fishing, but wanted to go lighter. Dont know if Ive made a mistake though.

    I use this line like a scandi since 2 weeks on my Guideline switch rod With 10 feet rio tips for grayling fishing with wetflies in France.
    A very good line.

    I have a few Maxcatch rods, 4wt and 7wt switch rods, a 9.5' 6wt, and a sweet 3wt Farglory nymph/combo rod. I've gotten into fly fishing head first and this has allowed me to affordably try several methods. Spey is next. I don't have the high end experience to compare Maxcatch to but it's good to know that the Jedi vouches for the gear!
    I get some Aventik stuff too, good reel options that come with 2 spare spools. Have a few Maxcatch and Aventik lines too along with some Rio lines.
    For skagit tips, I bought some level sinking line and level floating line and weld up my own in different combos. That's VERY economical as well.
    Where can I get the Maxcatch Classic Clicker?
    Thanks for doing this video! It helps makes Spey more accessible!

    Im looking for a fast action rod for fishing the beach of the coast of Louisiana. I normally used a 10wt TFO and get a really stiff cast because of our wind that blows in into the area. But now that im starting to spey fish more and more i want to bring this style to the coastal waters

      the maxcatch 8 weight is firm but the Aventic Spey rods may be stiffer. Will have one to demo soon!

    How about reviewing the Maxcatch 15 foot 10 weight, with a long Spey line?

    Hi Tim I'm having a hard time deciding between this rod and the 8wt version do you have any suggestions on which rod would be best for a beginner? I will be starting with a skagit line. Also does that reel click at all being a disc drag? Thanks for making these videos!

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  Рік тому +1

      This 7 weight is perfect for a beginner. 8 weight takes a ton of grains to load. Yes click modesty both ways I believe.

    Did you try pulling these lines with a little force? I bought the maxcatch single hand spey and the shooting head. They both break quite easily when I pull on them. So for fishing salmon here in Norway they are a joke. They went straight in the trash..

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  Рік тому +1

      Wow, good to know. I’ve broken high dollar lines stretching them by hand. I’ll be careful. Might not be a problem for me as I have getting skunked on a regular basis. Still one must be ready for that fish of a lifetime on every trip. Thanks for the heads up!

    How is this rod compared to the 13'6? Of course the 13'6 casts heavier lines, I'm thinking more of recovery speed, action and "feeling".

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  Рік тому +1

      The 13’6 is more of a beast, stiffer, more of an 8/9 at least. Takes a lot of grains to bend it

  • @casual_briday7209
    @casual_briday7209 Рік тому +1

    Do they make any single hand spey lines? I have a 9'6" 6wt of theirs that I bought to use while I was waiting for a replacement tip for a different rod, so now I have an extra rod to experiment with.

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  Рік тому

      They do but I would just use one of thei Skagit heads they should work fine, although you might shorten the from the front a foot or two before adding a tip

    I've been watching your videos and really want to try two handed spey casting. Would you recommend this max catch 7wt sky touch for a first rod on a very small budget? Thanks for all the videos. I was also considering the 3wt but kinda thought... Wanna try spey, go all in... 7wt

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  Рік тому

      Yes! I think the 7 weight Sky touch would be an excellent spey rod to start with. I say go for it. You cant go wrong.

    Hello, a skytouch 13ft #7 is coming. I would like to know what weight window to use with scandi and skagit lines, thanks

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  Рік тому +1

      450 to 500 or less Skagit and 375 to 325 Scandi. Just a rough guestiment

    Thinking of trying out those maxcatch skagit heads in the smallest (200) grain weights on my 9’ 5wt to try out single hand spey. You still think they are a decent product?

    • @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
      @LineSpeedJediTimRawlins  9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, but you have to trim the front back so you might go heavier and trim off a foot, or two, or three.
