As someone from Durban, single gendered schools are very common especially in high school. War cries are part of the ethos of a school and are taught to grade 8s as they enter the school. South Africans are extremely proud people and we are proud of our sports and schools. Hence we partake in war cries at rugby games, galas, festivals etc. The guys in two tone blazers are generally Spirit or War Cry Captains and lead the war cries. Being at events with war cries like these hypes everyone up so much and acts as a means to show school spirit in a phenomenal way. Being one of the pupils at a high school in South Africa, I feel an obligation to explain. South Africa is a very diverse country mainly due to apartheid. But the vibe in South Africa is like no other, people come together to create something amazing. One of the ways we display comradery is through War Cry’s. The are mainly done at High Schools at events like Rugby games reunions. The guys that wear different colored blazers are called War Cry leaders hence they create and lead the war cry’s.

I believe that different cultures do it differently, what I described is how the Basotho people ululate.
I'm Ghanaian....what I knw about war cries is that usually when u go for inter school competitions (games or sports) you do that to hype ur school...like showing support to scare ur enemies
Yes i agree with you. I'm a Ghanaian as well. We don't have cheerleading like Americans do. But we the students cheer our schools during competitions to scare our enemies in a game. I think its a common thing in Africa
@@ayandantombela509 ,dude just gave a description of how they do it in Ghana as well, never said it was Ghana. Kenyan and Zim Schools also have war cries.
I wish i had morecash bro and invite you here in S.A just to experience these kind of ululation in diferent provinces u haven't seen anything yet this is just a drop in the pool of water....
Ain't even gonna lie when I moved to the States this is what I missed about sporting events in high school. There was something about scoring and running to the stands and getting hyped up with war cries. 🤣🤣
War cries is a big thing in South African athletics. We got teams and we got cheering. The war cries are by the cheerers and is performed throughout the day that different schools compete. Basically we vibe and the athletes get hyped. Also yes, in SA we all wear uniforms to school, no casual clothes.
I went to high school in the 90s. I've lived in England now for about 20 years, but this video just showed me that some things don't change! The war cries might be different than the ones I knew, but the vibe is the same. I miss it.
South African high school war cries are presented at the beginning of sports games such as rugby and soccer, when we are playing against another school, each schools team does their war cry before the game starts. Its a representation of our schools strength.

That's not true we don't love each other we pretend, we think that other tribes (e.g) "Zulus and Xhosas" are better than others, and we are all humans. We appreciate what your grandfather did for us in history but that does not mean you are better than other tribes that's what create hate to each other, my dream is to see all South African together without fake love. History will never be forgotten but chances of it to repeat again is rare, what we need to do is to unite focus on the present to build the brighter future.
Proudly South African. We wear school uniforms. There are different reasons - school spirit, competition, psych the competition out or encouraging your team.
The school I went to was dope but the new principal changed every thing hell now now no student my touch another student because according to the new principal that's sexual and needs to be baned
So no one is going to speak about how emotionally beautiful that traditional like song they song was 😭❤️❤️ Lol if only my high school did This we were singing American remixed songs and we also had cheerleaders
These virtual travels have my JAMAICAN azz behaving like I am there, teeth for days, smile from ear to ear, head going up and down like a bobblehead dog on a dashboard, I know it's English but I can't get past the accent so I put my own words in......... love you son.....thanks for the ride. hahahahaha
War cries are awesome,we do it to show pride ,team spirit ,support and get hyped up to perform at our best💗 If I had this every morning in my adulthood I would be winning at life 🤣🤣
A lot of schools have war cries to cheer their 1st team rugby in derby games on Saterdays. But S.A all boy schools take a lot of pride in who has the best war cries, which is normally led by boy cheerleaders like those you saw dressed in weird blazers. Only recently were full on bands involved in war cries. I don't know what school started it, but it's changed the level of school war cries for the best for sure🏆its Lit🔥
Sometimes we have events against other school, in sports and academics and culture. So the high school students will come together (usually lead by matric prefects, grade 12s) and will create a few minutes worth of a war cry to perform against the other school to create a vibe and excitement
Girl don't get sentimental. SA is lit but this is a sinking ship. Corruption will have this country in the toilet in 10 years tops. Get your affairs in order and get a footprint outside this country. Work for multinational companies and save enough money for relocation in a foreign currency. I call mine my "get the f*ck out" account. Get your ducks in a row mntase.

I mean i love our people but it seems like a critical mass of us will not be voting the right people into power anytime soon. Things are going to get worse and I'm not going to be around to watch.
so basically there are different occasions where you do this. at a school game before a school game/event to get everyone pumped up to come through and support the team sometimes the whole school bunks the last period/class of the day especially on very hot days so everyone gathers and do this when a team has won a big tournament or something mostly its just to vibe out
The war-cries are made to show support for high school rugby teams usually. The 2 coloured blazers are for spirit leaders and they in charge of making sure the school has spirit.

Yah but this is not Ghana
It's the same in Kenya.....
@@ayandantombela509 ,dude just gave a description of how they do it in Ghana as well, never said it was Ghana. Kenyan and Zim Schools also have war cries.

From here onwards 6:28, literally sent chills down my spine. The ululation nearly got me tearing. Genuinely felt like pulling my spear and knobkerrie
Shona khona ay ay ah ayyyiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!
Sends chills down my spine bruh!! 😩❤️
Yess!!!! Probably the parents watching
I see why u said that😂
I felt it!!!
bruh us South Africans are lit and have better "cheerleading squads" than anywhere else so beat that we're lit ;)
So true!
I went to high school in the 90s. I've lived in England now for about 20 years, but this video just showed me that some things don't change! The war cries might be different than the ones I knew, but the vibe is the same. I miss it.
The ululating in the background will be the mother's of the boys who also show up at sport events
Hahahhahahaaha I said the same thing.
South African high school war cries are presented at the beginning of sports games such as rugby and soccer, when we are playing against another school, each schools team does their war cry before the game starts. Its a representation of our schools strength.
This brought me back to the days of school. Warcries were SERIOUS business... Our school had a cheer squad as well
Fun fact we South Africans 🇿🇦 can create a vibe out of anything😌🔥I’m proud of my country💕
3:25 listen dude I’m a South African and only South Africans love this we too beast and we make beats to anything
Ya South Africans we love each other like fam

That's not true we don't love each other we pretend, we think that other tribes (e.g) "Zulus and Xhosas" are better than others, and we are all humans. We appreciate what your grandfather did for us in history but that does not mean you are better than other tribes that's what create hate to each other, my dream is to see all South African together without fake love. History will never be forgotten but chances of it to repeat again is rare, what we need to do is to unite focus on the present to build the brighter future.
We have war cries in every school, we don’t rly have cheer leaders here, we kinda just all cheer and yeah 😈😈
I'm in private school and don't attend the sports games so idk
the 'i love my school' war cry be hitting different no matter what event
Proudly South African. We wear school uniforms. There are different reasons - school spirit, competition, psych the competition out or encouraging your team.
This is giving me nostalgia... I miss my high school 😭♥️
The kids in the different colored suits are called The War Cry Leaders.
In SA we cheer throughout the whole game or athletic meets , school swimming gala’s etc. that’s what happens through the whole event
When he realizes the school fee for these private schools are 10 to 20 thousand dollars lemme know✌😂😂😂
😂
I honestly miss this, corona messed up everything.
Everyone in the comments talking about how all schools in South Africa have a vibe. Can I come to your school because wow my school has no vibe😓😓
this is your opportunity to create the vibe at your school.
Same
Futeksband shame the prefects before have tried, but the kids literally don’t want😔
The school I went to was dope but the new principal changed every thing hell now now no student my touch another student because according to the new principal that's sexual and needs to be baned
Gidi ahhh that’s so whack
This has got to be the most proud I’ve ever been of SA
The one with the blue smoke is my school and I’m in the video😂
What's the school's name?
So no one is going to speak about how emotionally beautiful that traditional like song they song was 😭❤️❤️
Lol if only my high school did This
we were singing American remixed songs and we also had cheerleaders
St. David’s
These virtual travels have my JAMAICAN azz behaving like I am there, teeth for days, smile from ear to ear, head going up and down like a bobblehead dog on a dashboard, I know it's English but I can't get past the accent so I put my own words in......... love you son.....thanks for the ride. hahahahaha
BlackTwitter was here again or are we just turning into fans of this dude🤔
Don’t know buh it’s lit bruh🔥
War cries are awesome,we do it to show pride ,team spirit ,support and get hyped up to perform at our best💗 If I had this every morning in my adulthood I would be winning at life 🤣🤣
You hvnt enjoyed life if u didnt attend High School in Africa
True dat! The school spirit is something else
Especially Boarding School
FR!!!!!!
fr and the fact i was forced by my mum to move to london i was broken
Yes!!!!
this makes me proud being south african. appreciate your appreciation of the culture and pride
The two schools that started the warcries trend are Queens College Boys High & Dale College Boys High, schools in the EasternCape
Remember that "Voetsek" means "I love you" so say it to your family and friends🇿🇦
Hai wena 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Stoooooooop!!!😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Ukhohlakele😂😂😂
Sometimes we have events against other school, in sports and academics and culture. So the high school students will come together (usually lead by matric prefects, grade 12s) and will create a few minutes worth of a war cry to perform against the other school to create a vibe and excitement
This really got me missing my high school day. And there still people who want to leave South Africa when our country is so lit? 🙌🏼❤️🇿🇦
Ofcourse they wanna leave sa ...i mean there's kenya 😌
I'm still leaving 😂 askis
Girl don't get sentimental. SA is lit but this is a sinking ship. Corruption will have this country in the toilet in 10 years tops. Get your affairs in order and get a footprint outside this country. Work for multinational companies and save enough money for relocation in a foreign currency. I call mine my "get the f*ck out" account.
Get your ducks in a row mntase.
@@shaunjansenvannieuwenhuize2501 I'm a childless woman myself and I'm not sure if i will ever have any but if I did I would want to provide my children with options. You are doing the right thing for your family. Considering the crime statistics its a matter of survival for me at this point. I mean i love our people but it seems like a critical mass of us will not be voting the right people into power anytime soon. Things are going to get worse and I'm not going to be around to watch.
im leaving SA to study overseas cos this countries job rate n the country itself especially its parliament is RIDICULOUS
can’t imagine not being south african!! y’all are missing out big time.
🤣😂😂
We used to do this every time before a rugby game at my brothers school it's to hype up the players and the crowd it's super fun
so basically there are different occasions where you do this.
at a school game
before a school game/event to get everyone pumped up to come through and support the team
sometimes the whole school bunks the last period/class of the day especially on very hot days so everyone gathers and do this
when a team has won a big tournament or something
mostly its just to vibe out
War cries are done to intimidate to competing schools in sports.
The war-cries are made to show support for high school rugby teams usually. The 2 coloured blazers are for spirit leaders and they in charge of making sure the school has spirit.
Thank you for showing us how amazing South Africa is 🙏🏽
