  • Seymour Hicks stars in this 1913 version of Scrooge, based on Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Hicks would play the part again in the better-known sound version from 1935. This 1913 silent version was released in America in 1926 under the title "Old Scrooge" and that is the version here. The video is mute.

I saw this once, many years ago, & have been searching for it since. I watch several versions of the story every year on UA-cam, yet this is the very first time this has popped up on my feed. Thank you so much for this- I enjoyed it greatly. I had some instrumental Christmas carols playing quietly in the background to set the mood. Wonderful!!

Same here. And I'm taking a course on this book from Hillsdale College right now. Comparing all of the movies I can find to what the book actually reads. Most of them are good. I give a lot of slack to cinematic license

Now, all we need is to send a petition to Jacqueline Stewart of TCM (Turner Classic Movies) to include this in the Silent Sunday Night lineup for next Christmas.

I see a lot has changed since the 1908 version. It's way longer. I am gonna have to grab this from you and add pre 1913 wax cylinder music to it.

Thanks. Only vaguely like the classic and crunched for time, but I suppose the special effects in 1913 would have wowed the audience. A merry Christmas to you!

And hopefully both that one as well as this one will be aired as part of the Silent Sunday Night lineup for next Christmas on TCM (Turner Classic Movies), if only we can get a petition through to Jacqueline Stewart in time.

I grew-up where we had not snow to make snow-
    men. But we had plenty
    of tumble-weeds.
But they just didn't hold together as well as
    snow did ! ☃️

Outrageous what they did to Jacob Marley.A man works hard and minds his own business and that is what he gets.I know it was fiction but the idea is repulsive.Whoever agrees with this shameful act is sick.
