I love that you study candy, you don't just make it, Greg. I love that you study it's history and take us around the world with you via your storytelling. I also love the poetry that you throw in. Speaking of violets, Enya released an album several years ago called Sumerigusa, meaning Wild Violet. One of the songs is inspired by a Japanese haiku about violets and its a great listen!
Lmystery Dmystery I 1,000% agree that Greg is definitely an amazing story teller. And something in the way his voice sounds? I could listen to him telling us a story about anything really. It’s wayyyy calming!
If you could get the sugar to maintain that beautiful amber color when it's thinner you could make Jurassic Park candy like that piece of fossilized amber with the bug inside. The only question is what flavor? Pine?
I just got my candy in the mail, and I have to say, this Violet candy is some of the best candy I’ve ever had in my life. It’s such a subtle yet delicious flavor and it absolutely blows my mind. I don’t have a basis to go off of, but it tastes amazing.
I candy violets every year for cake toppings and the like. In fact, on one side of my neighborhood, the violets have mutated to have white spirals on the petals that make a really pretty flourish.
I think it's interesting that you come up with the flavors, and I really liked the dill pickle video for this reason. If you make the flavored oils in-house, I think it would be an interesting video to see how that process works
6:14 just made my mouth dropped. The luck of the sponge Landing so smoothly just gives the presentation that you are all professional candy makers. And I know you are too ;)
Do you think you guys might ever start selling stickers or hoodies? I'd love to plaster my laptop in a sticker or two, and I'd LOVE to wear a nice comfy candy themed hoodie from you guys!
French here and got super excited seeing violet in the title. It was my favorite treat as a child. Really happy to see not just your usual great research but that you got to experience the real thing too.
When I went to Toulouse in 2005, I brought back violet lollipops for everyone. As a person who likes floral flavors, they were great! I also brought back a small bottle of violet liqueur, which was absolutely lovely. (Psst... any plans on doing an elderflower flavored candy? I already loved the rose drops in the rare flavors mix I got.)
watching you cut down the candy rods with the bench scraper and watching you break apart the sheets of drop candy are some of my favorite parts of these videos. thank you for making these videos and making them so educational
oh boy oh boy if I can I’m gonna order some of these for my girlfriend! Came back to confirm that I did order some of these for my girlfriend! Candied violets are one of my favorite things I’ve eaten, and I’m so happy she’ll finally get the chance to try something similar to them! Back again to say they got here and I test tasted one, and it was really delicious! Totally worth ordering!
I hope these will continue to be made! I’ve planned for a long while to get the rose candies as a gift to myself when I graduate university in a few months but violets were my grandma’s favorite and so violet candy would be so special
Greg, your crystal candies are the most gorgeous candies I’ve ever seen! And I love the history and insights you offer, The local jazz gives a lovely community “flavor.” If I ever make it to Tallahassee, I’ll be sure to stop by and pick up some of your fantastic goodies!
Here where I live we have violet pastilles. I used to love them as a kid. There's one with just violet and a liquorice with violet. This made me nostalgic for them.
I love the little candy run down. as many of these i watch i appreciate how thurough you are in explanation, yeah a lot of people might ahve heard you give the same talk on the importance of driving out the water, using hot sugar to evap water from dye, ect. But its that new guy that gets the rundown no matter the video that sparked his interest guaranteed that makes it def worth it.
A handful of years ago, I made violet jam with my grandma from flowers in the area. That was really tasty; had a nice, delicate flavor to it. Thanks for the flashback!
You have charmed me with your candy making. I bought some on the spot and plan on sharing it with friends and family as my valentine to them. Thank you for bringing something so beautiful to youtube!
I received my order today and this candy is great. Parma violets have always been one of my favourite candies. I was really interested to try this new type of violet flavour and was not disappointed. Thanks so much!
This candy is delicious. I got it for my brother’s birthday and it’s my favorite out of the four flavors we got. He doesn’t like it as much so he gave me the bag. Yay!
Just got my order of violet candy in today from you. Amazing job with the flavor balance! It's so difficult to balance floral flavors without it tasting like you're chugging perfume, but you got it fantastic! Also just really cool to eat something while watching a video of it being made.
I've been to Toulouse a few times and the candied violets are one of my favourites. I bought some candy from you guys a few years ago. But since I'm from Australia it's a bit expensive but I might have to get some of these!!
I entirely expected to not recognize this flavor but lo and behold it was like a trip down memory lane, back to my late grandparents' old antique shop of the '80s and '90s where they also sold nice floral sachets and a few Victorian reproduction knick-knacks like hand mirrors and art prints. I just had no context of what that heavenly aroma was, but now I can eat it! Thank you, guys!
Hi, Greg! I'm curious if you've ever made candy with a different sugar than white cane as the base? Also, real violets are used in making the liqueur Creme de Violette by Rothman & Winter - available in the USA.
Why are the unicorn dropping so large? It seems like it would be a lot of pieces that you could utilize from that section....Also does the end of the log make another dropping? Can you show us, in a video, how many rods come out of one log? Please keep up the good work-your candy is amazing!!👏🏾👏🏾
The end of the candy is uneven no matter how well you line up the pieces, so the design won't show up well in that end chunk. You end up doing the same with millefori clay beads and glass. Now they could make it into "mistake" pieces of candy but it seems funner to just sell it as a giant speciality piece.
I have been watching your vids with my daughter and I let her pick some candies from the site. She was so excited these were still available because her name is Violet. Can't wait to try them out with her!
This many months later and I just received them. They’re spectacular! Hoping that means you made subsequent batches and that you may continue to do so.

I'll recommend everyone here and to the family that makes candy as long as you make videos
I don't know if I got a response, but I suggested violet candy quite a few months ago. Either way I'm happy to see it became reality. Whilst I've never tried french violet candy, I have tried swedish violet candy, specifically a sort of violet lozenge candy and violet ice cream. It's absolutely delicious. Best of tidings.
I opened this video expecting it to be another one of the candy making videos that watch to relax, but when you said Tallahassee, my eyes shot open. I live in Tallahassee! Why have I never been here? (And are you hiring? 😂)
I was really impressed with this one. The flavor is similar to a Japanese candy I had recently called konpeito. It was an assortment of flower flavors.
I love the crystal flower variants, they're so beautiful to look at. Very interested to see what sort of flavour the violets are. I'm in Aus but I think I'll order a bag today if there are any left.
violet candy are popular here in Bulgaria as well. to me they taste like my childhood :) had no idea France and Spain had them as well and now I feel like I need to go back there and try theirs as well... you know, for science :)
I love your videos, Greg!! I have to point out that violet candy is typical from Madrid, Spain; not Barcelona. I'm Spanish and I lived in Madrid for almost six years and the Spanish page for violet candy in Wikipedia has the correct information.
They taste amazing had to buy another bag
Thank you.
Coward I bought 3
Coward I bought 4
Coward I bought 5
Lol I bought 8 beat that >:)
The violet candy is cool and all, but tossing the sponge and having it land upright?? Thats amazing
I didn't see that first time, but I just rewatched it and it had me in stitches!
If anyone wants the time stamp, it's 6:10.
@@Definitely_a_Fox I did want the time, ty.

If it tasted like the sap I chewed in the mountains as a child that would be perfect
Mosquito flavor
OMG yes

Brilliant idea. Best sap flavours involve syrup!
