- Around 8am, Mom arrives with food and the eyas makes a steal and grabs the prey and does not want Mom to take it. He is very excited & does a remarkable job of mantling and protecting his food!! Mom does get it and begins feeding. Afterwards he takes a nap until Mom returns. He joins her on the ledge - watching her preen and dozing off too. Eventually he hops down and goes to the corner of the nest box and spreads out tummy down on the gravel to sleep. Thank you for watching!

Whenever I am sad I watch this most wonderful video and at the same time I am in great pain for this beautiful little boy who passed away quickly. Almost five yea
rs have passed since I watched it and I still remember it every day. His way of napping, his way of eating, and his longing for his mother and father. I do not forget his last moments with his father. I always watch those moments and I am very sorry. I wish Rocky would have grown up and lived longer and lived with him as long as possible, but fates wanted us to say goodbye as soon as possible. God bless you, my little bird
Thank you so much for your beautiful reply and heart! I find myself remembering Rocky and watching this video from time to time too. It brought me great joy to see him so full of life! I always do a special tribute to him on the anniversary of his passing as well. I can't believe it will be six years on June 4th when he fell off the ledge. I will never forget this sweet baby nor the time his Dad stayed with him till the very end. Soar high sweet baby!!
@@ladyhawk What a pair of lungs he had! It's been six years, and I can finally bring myself to rewatch some of Rocky's (your ) videos.. For your first efforts, this was as touching and heartbreaking a story as I have viewed. He was a great, adventurous, determined spirit, wasn't he!
@@mohrwords4957 Hi Mohr Words - yes Rocky has the loudest pair of lungs ever!!! I am glad you can go back and watch some of the videos I did on him. I wish I had more but this was my first recording attempt with youtube . His story was very touching and we all had such great hopes for him after they fixed his splayed legs. Very heartbreaking even to this day. These raptors really do touch our hearts and remain with us forever. Your response actually gave me an idea on making a new video on him! Soar high Rocky!! ♥

Yes, that is how Rocky rested - flat on his stomach. It was cooler on the gravel this way- it was very hot in Phoenix on that day.

Awww, I love his spirit, he’s so adorable. His mommy is so patient and loving too. I read that he fell and passed away and it broke my heart. I have tears streaming down my face watching this. Rest in peace Rocky, fly high! We love you!

Oh MY aren't we grabby today!! Turning into a regular carnivore I see. He's becoming more and more like a grown up falcon every day. I love his "puppy barks" he does while eating, the sounds are just too adorable :) what a cutie pie!! He's totally become a star to so many, from all over the world they all come to watch little "Rocky"!

Thank you ! This was the first Peregrine falcon nest I ever watched and I fell in love with Rocky! It crushed me when he died a few days later - fell off the ledge 8 stories below. I created a memorial for him downtown where the nest was located and we had many viewers come by bringing stuffed toys, candles, balloons, cards, photos and even poems. It was our way to remember him and to say goodbye to a chick whose life was cut out way too early. This video is one of my favorites of him showing that zest for life!!!

@@kathleenmccaffery1313 Hi Kathleen no the parents abandoned this nest after Rocky was killed. We never saw them again and pigeons took over the nest box and the AZFGD then turned off the cam 😕 I would like to think they knew this spot was not safe and they found a better location and made their own nest for future seasons. ♥ This was my first falcon nest and it rocked me to the core to watch this baby die on the nest after falling and being put back in here without them taking him to a vet hospital. It was irresponsible of the AZFGD to do that and it may have caused his death. Perhaps if they had taken him in to a hospital they could have saved him. I was so devastated - I made a tribute for him downtown along with several of the viewers. We brought stuffed teddy bears, balloons, flowers, candles and I did a digital print of him with a frame. One viewer wrote a beautiful poem for him and another did a drawing of him and attached it to the tree below the nest. I still remember him and sometimes I will see a falcon flying overhead when I am out hiking and think of Rocky's spirit soaring high in the heavens ♥♥
Miss this little falcon baby. None like him that I've seen, he had a personality, quite special.

Oh wow, I just found these after watching Michelle, Newman and their boys. Peregrine Falcons are just AWESOME! PERIOD~ His story is so sad, yeah I cried too. But he lived! What little time he was here, I wanted to know him. Thank you so much Ladyhawk. Pictures and video is all we have left to help our memories when they are gone. This was Rocky, he unfortunately died as a baby. He fell off the ledge of his nest. There will never be another like him ever. Especially the way he would throw himself on the gravel to sleep with his legs wide open! Too cute! And sad 😞 at the same time because he left us too young over 5 years ago.

Nature in the raw red tooth & claw , we must accept what happens.💜 This year we lost 2 young Ospreys, both the youngest bobs.

Chicks this age eat until they're full (or the food runs out) then will move to express their dominance over the nest by stealing the carcass and mantling it. From what I was reading from the School of Natural Science at U of A, falcons do everything fast. Including grabbing things and swallowing food. This can lead to their deaths as well. These birds are faster than jets by measure. All they think of is speed, and more speed.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the adult pulling its chest and neck feathers out. This is type of behavior is usually brought on by medical/behavioral issues or environmental changes (heat wave).
