14 Story Mountain Stairs ♦ Wat Khao Tham Mee ♦ Dan Chang ♦ Walking Thailand

In this video we will continue our expedition around rural Dan Chang and stop at a Buddhist Temple named Wat Khao Mee (What Kai-ow Meee). The location offers a lot of natural splendor and for a Thai Temple is quite tastefully designed and decorated. It reminded me of something one may find in an old Kungfu movie. The buildings are naturally blended into the scenic landscape and because no one knows of these places (except Thais) there are never any tourists around. As with most temples that have the word Khao in them this temple offers a 14 story mountain side staircase leading up to a small sanctuary at the top. The monks in this area must have calves like steel climbing these stairs daily to maintain the Buddha and its room at the summit.
We start at the bottom of the stairs in this video and with Junior (my 22kg son) on my shoulders we head on up. The temperature was a modest 36 degrees Celsius that day and it was about to rain so the humidity was off the charts. We had a good time going up and both ate like pigs and slept like babies once we returned to our room after. If you enjoy Buddhism, nature, physical fitness or need to punish your kids you should give this place a visit. It makes dry-land hocky training look like aquafit for seniors, even though it is not the largest set of stairs one can venture up in Thailand.

Junior is and for being the age he is he is pretty well behaved considering how tired they get and how fast it can come on. We did another temple last year with steps about 3 times higher and 2/3 of the way up he was tired of having to be carried. This one seemed just right for him. The next video he runs around in the actual temple after walking down the stairs himself. He had a blast with the acoustics. Thanks for watching.
