  • I tackle three of Jolin Labs modules: the Tabor avalanche oscillator, Goblet filter and Ascolta stereo preamp. Easy builds, fascinating sounds.

The tabor is a lot of fun, the avalanche refers to the transistors with the middle leg clipped matched with caps forcing them to overload and "avalanche" out noise. Probably explaining that wrong but it was a fun build, wish it wasn't all done for you now. It's great as a noise source and shape with filters and vcas. Fun to watch too!

I like the filter. It has a very MS-20 feel to it.

Been thinking about building one but been a bit shy due to my limited DIY skills. Now I gotta get me one of these, cheers Robin.

A few years back I had not used a soldering iron since school in the 90s. Robin's early DIY vids and his lack of understanding combined with his "let's give it a go" attitude inspired me to dive in.
Never looked back. Built tons of modules now.
      Dive in, and cheers Robin

Hi, what solder do you use for your builds? I've recently switched to lead free solder and now I'm having quite some trouble with getting good soldering joints

It's hard to say something is wrong with Tabor, because it's Tabor, but I think I can get more rhythmic stuff with just knob twiddling that what you got. But there are definitely sweet spots... If that helps at all. You can also do things similar to hard sync by oscillator into 3M (I think) which can help tame it a bit. And of course... Add a filter on it, and drown it in reverb and delay 😂

But what do any of the knobs or inputs do?

@@MoltenMusicTech Knobs are labeled with F for frequency and M for modulation or each of the 4 oscillators (1F and 2M for insance), oscillator 3 only has CV inputs though.
The three outputs on the middle right are variants, TR (0-7V CV out), NM (main audio out), and ZZ (filtered audio out)
Middle left input restricts the current the oscillators
But yeah, it is kind of all crazy

That's remarkably helpful - they should put that sort of thing in the manual :D
