    Hi Oscar, I watched your surf ski clinic and other videos of yours a couple months ago after getting in a boat for the first time nearly 3 months ago. After practicing your drills 4 times a week, I am sooo much more confident and am really starting to feel like I could dedicate more to this sport. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience :D

    This is poetry in motion by Oscar who is such an inspiration and a capable teacher. My Evo II is on the car rack and ready to rumble the next downwind off North Stradbroke Island Queensland.Thanks Oscar !

    Coming from Hawaii, these technical bumps excite me!

    I have 5 SUP's in my garage but my next watercraft is inevitably going to be a ski. I can't argue with the most efficient boat to paddle, most efficient paddles, the ability to go upwind, and the bargain prices of the new poly skis available.

    Outstanding video! Could you give us a brief overview of your equipment? Thanks.

      I was using a Nelo 560 with a Brace IV min, with the softest shaft, set at 217 and then moved down to 212 by the end. I just used a few sips of water along the way

      @@OscarChalupskySurfski Holy crap! I didn't think you'd reply so soon. Thanks Oscar. I've been kayaking for almost 50 years and I'm looking to buy my first surf ski.

      @@joeyd4364 make sure it is very stable surfski, even if you think you been paddle 50 years, my dads been paddling 65 years and is in a stable surfski like a Nelo 520

      @@OscarChalupskySurfski I'm 5 foot 8 inches tall and weight 175 pounds. The 560 may not be the ski for me. I was on the US National junior team back in the 70s and still use my K1 and a Sea Valley Rapier 20. You're right. I would be willing to gain stability to sacrifice some speed. (But not too much) I'm looking at the epic v14 but haven't demoed it yet. Fenn is also a possibility.

      Joey D okay the suggest the 550 similar speed to the 560 but more stable. You must get into the waves to really enjoy SURFSKI paddling

    Hi Oscar. Thanks for the informative videos. Would it be possible to indicate the direction of the wind, wind swell and ocean swell on the screen? I'd like to get a better understanding as to how you maneuver the ski to maximise the energy you harness from the swell and wind. You often advocate conserving energy whilst you on the runs and to wait for the next run as opposed to chasing down the run in front of you. When is it okay to chase down the run in front of you? Thanks for your time. Best regards, Garth

    Interesting that the best runs are still Millers and Milnerton have you ever wondered if there are some exotic runs out there in the Mid Atlantic or mid Pacific or somewhere that one can ride 40 or 50 kmph on a run for kilometers,, I often day dream but we dont see all the spots on Earth

    • @OscarChalupskySurfski
      @OscarChalupskySurfski  4 роки тому +1

      I don't think that Millers or Milnerton are even i the top 5 places in the world for speed and fun. In the Caribbean I did some runs that were faster and better then the race. How can you compare training with a race? A race you have to take what the conditions are like on the race day. When you just go and do downwind you can pick the best time and day very different. I have done better time in Hawaii, Tahiti, Durban, Portugal to mention a few. In Porto I did 80km, not the Micky Mouse 12 or 15km, average speed 17.7km/h at a heart rate of 121 BPM. Nobody has done that around the world. If you can pick a perfect time you will always get the best times. I have also done in Durban 51km at 18.3km/h average

    Thanks for this unique video! Very inspiring. What field of view do you scan to find the next run, is it wider than the camera's?

      Thorsten von Eicken yes close to that depending on the directions of the waves

    It looks so complicated to surf the chops! It feels like a messy chop and swell, coming from every direction

      Yes you are right. It's just that I remember when I trained hard that this type of surfing was so hard for me, some waves good but many I got stucked.
