    Fun fact: B2W2, if you level up a Seel to level 41 without evolving it, it will gain the move Dive which will allow you to access the Abyssal ruins before you get the HM for it.

    Had some fun with Golduck in my very first play through as a kid (the anime factored into that), and even if Whiscash isn’t great, its typing automatically makes it appealing for at least a play trough. I agree with the majority of your picks. That said, I've enjoyed using Dewgong on an old FireRed playthrough when I chose Charmander as my starter. Although, I will say that it sadly takes a long time to get one. One that I've been using not as a team member but as a Pokémon to help with catching wild Pokémon is Golduck thanks to its Damp ability coupled with it being able to use Hypnosis.
    I'm not sure if I would ever use Veluza, Wailord, or Huntail on an in-game team. I think that the only other Pokémon in this video that I would consider using that I haven't used yet is Aqua Breed Paldean Tauros.

    Honestly, I would put all the Water mons from Gen. 3 on the list. Despite about 70% of the Hoenn roster are Water types in RSE, you only needed Swampert because it is completely busted in that gen. Sure. Grass type is like the only weakness type it has. But unless you give Ice type moves or other coverage moves; which is easy to do for an Water type, and with how walled it was, this thing outweighs almost everything the battle leads us. The only reason you need to have another Water type in your party is to learn 2 or all 3 Water HM'S to progress through the game. Swampert can learn all 3 Water HM moves as well. But if you really wanted it to stay alive, you can either have one Water HM moves that works and have all the learnsets it can learn so you won't have to give it HM's.

      Ludicolo was a very good option for Sapphire and Emerald players, in fact I used one alongside my Swampert on my Emerald team since Shiftry and Roselia wasn't available and it was better than Vileplume and Cacturne. I didn't use Ludicolo on my AS team because you have to use Lotad till Level 30-36 for Grass STAB for Giga Drain and Energy Ball. Sharpedo with Crunch was fairly useful for Phoebe. I actually got lucky in Ruby and caught a Feebas just for randomly fishing at the bottom of the route, and used Milotic in my final team. I feel like Milotic can be used as well in ORAS but have not tried it yet.

    • @jaretco6423
      @jaretco6423 3 місяці тому

      @xfdzfd4370 Ludicolo is ok and it might be an decent water HM slaver. But it's not as breakable as Swampert is and it doesn't get Giga Drain & Energy Ball till Gen. 4. I would say Milotic would be an better option; if not for Swampert. But getting Feebas and the way to evolved it is an pain in the ass. So it's best just sticking to Swampert. Sharpedo is cool. But you don't get Carvanah till very late in the game. Again. Stick to Swampert as your main Water type.

    Something I don't understand is all this talk about base stats when it comes to Pokemon. Maybe in competitive that's very important, but in any normal playthrough of a game, literally any mon can be used, no matter how low their base stats are, because you'll usually be highly leveled just playing normally. People said that Ledian is unviable, for example, but I've had literally no problem using it in a normal playthrough of Crystal (vanilla!). Especially once you get it some elemental punches from the Goldenrod Department store (ICe Punch and Thunderpunch), even Lance's Dragonites will go down in 1 hit most likely from that, cause of the x4 weakness. Are there stronger mon? Sure, but the games are easy enough that you can literally win with anything, with either good strategy or just outleveling (which happens all the time). There's also the fact that the NPC trainers never have any stat experience or EVs on their mon, meaning you always have an advantage from that point of view as well.

    Dewgong has only 1 niche over Lapras - Fake Out, but that lower HP is very crippling.
    Bruxish has nice ability (Dazzling) but that's about it. It's neither fast enough nor bulky enough to be relevant and even though it has access to Trick Room, it lacks Imprison and with that awkard speed it's just feels out of place. You may make some use of Scarf Bruxish but why it is the only water pokemon other then slowpoke line to learn Trick Room is beyond me.
    Huntail is just bad and unappealing, they really messed up this guy, just like Seaking, though Seaking at least has Lightingrod niche but it's not a special attacker and is still too weak to do anything other then absorbing electric moves for an ally in double battle (and there are better lightingrod pokemon to choose from).
    Wailord could potentially work.... in Trick Room but it's just a 1 trick pony and Drought is just killer ability for anyone trying to use water moves (and Torkoal is super common) plus any damage just weaken it's power and there are better options to choose from for water damage dealing anyway if you need some.
    Golduck feels... unfinished. As if it needed an evolution. It has potential but man the stats are just garbage if the best you can do to deal good-enough damage is innacurate Hydro Pump and Drizzle support.
    Whiscash has only Dragon Dance going for it, i agree, but since there are better dragon dancers (with better stats and moves) it just never going to be relevant. Funny though it has Amnesia and Rest by level up - you'd thought it can be bulky but nah, not with these base stats. Better options exist and even if they wouldn't it would be the same case as with mega slowbro - that bulky stall tactics are just not reliable and boring.
    Wugtrio is a dissapointment. Mainly because of its singature move being so weak and it has like... no coverage options at all. It's just so bad. Dugtrio has EQ at least and Arena Trap as option so it has some uses if you want, but Wugtrio is just pointless because it feels 2x weaker then its counterpart. If it's supposed to be glass cannon then make it hit hard. Right now it's glass noodle.
    Basculin has cool abilities that could make it work... if combined. Sadly it has to chose 1 or the other. Mold Breaker is amazing to counter Storm Drain shenanigans, Swift Swim great to actually make its speed work but Adaptability is needed for the actual good damage. You choose 1 option and you are either outsped, not strong enough or has no niche to be worth using over other water types whatsoever. And yeah nobody was using Basculin back then and nowadays Basculegion is all you want.
    I really feel like some of these should evolve to save the mon for competitive plays (Seaking, Golduck, Bruxish, Dewgong) while other need better moves or stat buffs.
