I totally agree with the marketing. It needed more than 'Hey, Ryan Gosling is a Stuntman. Please watch"
why didn't the "literally us" memers supported this flick?
Ghostiling is real a scam other than some memes no one knows him outside us and Canada 😂
I saw the movie in theaters opening weekend, and it was a genuinely fun movie to watch. It wasn’t trying to win any awards and that’s okay.
Overall, very much recommend.
Great fun action. We loved it
Apart from aiming for some stunt awards, but I get what you mean. Was excellent entertainment.
I'm sad people aren't going to see it in theaters
💯💯
Oh it won’t win any awards. For sure.
I'm starting to feel about this film like I felt with "Babylon" and "The Nice Guys".
The film is superb in all its' chosen genres: the romance in it flows and feels natural; the comedy comes from dialogues and acting, and situations; the action scenes are abundant, thrilling and exiting (there's fights, there's fire and car stunts, action in helicopter, on boats and so on and on).
I don't understand what is it exactly that people want or expect from an Action RomCom.
For me this film is a gem. It has absolutely everything 🔥💙🔥
Because people are tired of the same tropes played to death. Besides, directing wise there is absolutely nothing interesting going on there. Trailers looked extremely boring and safe. It is not funny, nor is there any risk.
@@CATDHD well... it's a romcom. You'd want any of the main leads to die or be difigured in a rom com?
@@MageSole nobody said disfigured or die. The point I was trying to make is one can make a romcom like Chungking express where nothing happens, but the delivery of the story is unique and creative and there are certain risks taken, and it is personal. Movies like Anyone but you, or recent Jennifer Lawrence comedy never surprise and might as well be directed by AI.
When it comes to Fall guy, there is not one thing that I can tell that I didnt see before. The movie has no intention, it is almost like made by a corporation based on what people liked before, but superficially.
@@CATDHD I did not watch Chunking express but, as I understand, it is not a romcom, it is a romantic drama.
The comparison to the other two films is, in my eyes, more fitting from a genre perspective, and The Fall Guy is vastly superior to the other two in the romcom department. This genre's appeal is its predictability. Whereas in the action department perhaps they could have been even more experimental, but for me, the other two genres delivered everything.
@@MageSole oh, yeah, I forgot you mentioned Babylon. I liked that movie a lot, perhaps could have been 40 minutes shorter, but still.
Actually not a bad movie. Saw it with my wife on Saturday. Definitely a fun little movie.
People aren’t suggesting it’s bad, just that it’s failing at the box office. Lots of good movies fail financially and lots of bad movies are financial hits.
I’m suggesting it’s bad. Really bad.
They butchered the favorite tv show of my teens. To start, Jody was not Colt's love interest!
Exactly. Sad. Enshi***fied.
Maybe people just consider it 'Another reboot' Hopefully word of mouth helps, it's a fun action movie.
Why couldn't they find a better show to make into a movie ?
I hope this movie has some legs. My wife and I saw it this last weekend (I'm 44 y.o.) and it was a lot of fun
150M budget and it earned just 127M atm.. not looking good lol
They don't do anything to promote movies anymore. I had no idea it was coming out!
...sarcasm? 😀
It’s WAY too early to call it a flop
exactly...why this culture wanting everything to fail is seemingly popular is beyond me!
Nah.
It's budget is between 125-150 million it has to make 2 1/2 times its budget to break even(roughly 310 - 375) it's made 64 million worldwide. So it's a bust.
With that budget and marketing it needs over 550 million to break even. That would be 8x the global opening.
Not.
Gonna.
Happen.
Unless it generates huge word of mouth hype and audiences grow (rather than shrink as happens 98% of the time), it is set to be a financial flop vs. budget and marketing. We actually have testable data and tons of past results with which to make solid future predictions.
@@DiarraHarris Elemental did it last year with nearly the same opening BO. Calling anything a flop opening weekend is just dangerous and misleading
I just seen it last night. I thought it was great. I'm becoming a big golsing fan, for action and comedy movies.
They barely mentioned the TV show when they were out promoting it, so that can't really be to blame.
I think the big problem is that trips to the cinema are so expensive now, even before you add in the snacks, that people are being far more choosy about when they go.
I've a feeling The Fall Guy will really find its legs when it hits streaming, just like The Nice Guys did. Then people will be asking for a sequel without realising them not going to see it in a cinema means it probably won't happen. Which is a real shame, because it's great.
Hollywood is in serious trouble. Budgets have ballooned, ticket prices have skyrocketed while quality has declined and there is just too much other competition for people's time. Most of it free with an internet connection.
but but why cant the literally us memers support this flick?
6:34 Bon Jovi, BON JOVI!?
"Any way you want it" by bon Jovi lol
Shows he knows what he's talking about!
The song from the trailer was Shot From the Heart, by Bon Jovi, right?
@@alexp601 Trailers in theaters must be different from the online ads...?
Journey not Bon Jovi.
Saw it today. So sad that this film is not doing super well in theaters cause Fall Guy was the most funniest and entertaining movie I seen so far this year ❤.
This was way too high a budget for this type of film. Solid film no doubt, but not a $3-500M payback movie.
Someone in Universal has a lot to answer for on sanctioning that level of budget for a film with this content.
It's a real shame because Fall Guy is a really great movie. Both actors are what make this movie so good. So if you haven't seen it you are really missing a good time.
They forgot a main character, the truck, its a nostalgia logo.
It was like watching smokey and the bandit remake with a prius
I thought it was a really good movie honestly
I thought the opposite. Luckily I didn’t pay for it.
I can't believe Whatculture was more accurate in their review than CriticalDrinker.
The most important character (the fallguy truck) was a background blur
Even if it does it will blow up when it hits streaming
Flopped in Australia because going the movies cost like $50 per person when you factor in a popcorn and drink and we all broke right now over here
Here too. In the US. Flopped here too.
Yeah, this is the definition that audience more like enjoyment and fun. Movies with low reviews from dumb critics has a box office success. While the movies with positive reviews has dissapointing box office.
😂 I mean on this is that audience find way more entertaining the low reviews than positive reviews.
To be fair. I didn’t know this movie existed until it was online and I happened to just see it while scrolling 😂
You all remember the TV series? I remember Colt not being an emotional teddy bear.
it is more like more like a remake of the 1978 movie Hooper than the cool The Fall Guy tv series
cause theres like 100 movies like this on streaming.
Why the theme song had to be rewrote because nobody knows who Bo Derek, Farrah Fawcet, Sally Field, Robert Redford, Burt Reynolds, Cheryl Tiegs, Raquel Welch. Clint Eastwood. There is half the lyrics there. Hahaha
Should have brought in the vintage truck for the final jump
The Fall Guy was a fun movie. The budget was too big to make profit. Hopefully the movie will sell well to a streaming company
It's a great flick. Definitely worth a watch.
It's unfortunate that it was tied to the TV show ... unless they planned it to be an origin story. Incomparably different premise, leverages a double-entendre of the title, and recycles the lead's name.
Took family of 4 (adult kids) and we loved it! Trying to explain the TV show created confusion.
Well, I generally hate seeing the generic superhero retread bullsh*t that has plagued the blockbuster category for seemingly the last 15 years. That said I loved this movie, and I would highly recommend. Make of this info what you will.
Has this person seen the movie? If given a chance it should have legs at the box office.
It was quite good and should appeal to a broad audience.
Also, the trailer was scored to Journey, not Bon Jovi, neither of which are used in the actual film.
150M budget and the total box office is 127M lol
Petition to stop calling movies flops after they didnt make a killing the first weekend. This is exactly why Hollywood started making only the biggest blockbusters with massive marketing campaigns: to ensure a massive first weekend, because there is no simmer period anymore (word of mouth, blu-rays, etc). Don't feed into that sht. Just look at Anyone But You, it didn't do great at first but was in theaters for like 3 months.
it's a flop . face reality
But Anyone But You is of another genre, previously nearly dead, with a lesser budget, with the main two stars on the rise and a great marketing. So it wasn't really surprising that it started slowly. Then it appealed to a great extent of the general audience, it wasn't pretentious, had a great iconic song and delivered real feelings to the people. And let's face it: Sydney Sweeney is the reason why many people went to see Anyone But You, and that's a good thing!
The Fall Guy has none of the above
@@KLAUS-N10i50m Opinions on which movie is better doesn't matter. Higher quality movies don't necessarily do better at the box office. The point is, you need to give movies, whichever genre, whatever quality, some time to gain some momentum. Not all will, but you can't tell a movie is a flop after just 1 week in theaters.
@@carlijnkruidhof That's right, but look at the main cast: you would expect a lot more from those two, instead they did a trivial movie (fsr better than others, no doubt) with unsatisfied marketing and an opening weekend weak. Some people in Tinseltown are already concerned. These are the facts, regardless if we love or hate the movie
@@KLAUS-N10i50m None of those things matter though. I'm only talking about giving a film time once it's released, instead of calling it a failure after 1 whole week in theaters.
I wanted to watch this at a Screen X (the screen that wraps around the theatre). I couldn't make it on opening weekend, and by the time I did see it it was already removed from the Screen X theatres in my city. A shame, because it seems like a good movie to see on a bigger screen.
They opened during finals. Most colleges around America are having finals this week and last. So, 90% of their possible audience was either studying or taking exams. Stupid release date tbh
I loved The Fall Guy. I had a blast with it. I want more people to watch it. I tell everyone how much fun it is.
This was a great movie! Unfortunately, audiences are not as willing to spend money on the movies these days. 🤑
why? can't the "literally us" memers save this flick?
I think the trailers should have played up Ryan Gosling and turned down the Emily Blunt. This is way more a Ryan Gosling movie.
It’s a great movie! One of my favorite I’d watch it multiple times
Watched it yesterday - great movie the best movie in that style that I’ve seen in a long time, was laughing and smiling all the way through - and the karaoke scene was incredible
❤ it. So much fun
Because it takes something big to get people to go to theatres, when the gap between theatrical and home release has shortened. Drastically from 10 months to 1-2 months. Why pay to see it in a theatre when I can stream it in a few weeks?
weird I was expecting the "literally us" memers to watch this movie lol
Because The MCU destroyed the star power of Hollywood stars. Now movies like the Fall Guy are just Netflix movies now.
if that is true then why is dune part two doing well at the box office
@jimbo9208 1. what was it's competition. 2. The first one was a good movie. 3. Women like the Timothy guy.
@@mr.dccomics9018 1: Kung fu panda 2 which beat Dune at the box office and Kung fu panda is also a star power movie and doing well at the box office
@@jimbo9208 KungFu Panda is before the MCU.
“mr.dccomics” now the stupidity of this comment makes sense. there hasn’t even been an MCU film released all year and other movies have had huge success at the box office.
The problem with the movie was it obnoxious trailer that was in your face and truly unlikable.
The budget was a problem too, when will Hollywood learn that making $100 million movie doesn’t always equal common sense.
I liked it But the trailer didn’t know justice neither did the advertising
I would also say that it had ZERO to do with the 80s tv show it was named after and any fans of the 80s show saw that immediately and did not go......
How did it flop? It's been out less than a week
The opening at the box office says it all. Every coming week it'll gross less and less, and looking at its $28m opening, it's likely it'll not make the minimum $300m it needs to make a profit
@@martins.muleya5742 word of mouth could still turn it around in the coming weeks
@@martins.muleya5742 28 is just for the Usa it made over 65 million overall
Unless it generates huge word of mouth hype and audiences grow (rather than shrink as happens 98% of the time), it is set to be a financial flop vs. budget and marketing. We actually have testable data and tons of past results with which to make solid future predictions.
@@niveketihw1897 65 million on a 120 million budget in 4 days is not a flop
This movie may be my favorite movie of the year. It was fun & entertaining. I took the wife & 3 daughters to watch it & we all loved it.
Agreed, think its one of the only movies you can take a family to see without politics but people helping each other, having fun, facing adversity with a positive attitude and not attacking or humiliating other people, that is something the original fall guy series had in the 80s. The greater question is after the pandemic not just with inflation but how have we lost that? think this movie had a lot of fun with the action, romance and music [and Emily Blunt doing best 'Against all odds Kerooke' with paired action sequence and dog, even the audience sung with her and smiled....] Think it will be great family film for streaming at homes or in man caves after the Christmas '24 hangover. I even think after the election day that faces us, families will stream it on Holiday's to laugh and have fun together again. . even the dog will have a character to relate too. name a film that can do all that like the Fall Guy.
I… have never heard of this movie.
This movie was awesome!! I’ve seen it twice now. It has comedy, tons of action, and romance. I hope it gains traction. I think it just didn’t get enough advertising. Most people I talked to had not heard of it.
Coming from a guy that has never even fell off his chair much less has ever done a stunt
Nothing to do with the fact that the cost of living is so high people dont have money to drop at the local Cinema especially when a single ticket is like $20 bucks so if you have a family it will cost a lot more
Didnt even know this came out yet.
I think the fact that inflation is eating into people's disposable income is hurting the box office overall. This looks like a fun movie to watch but not an event movie like Avengers: Endgame, Top Gun: Maverick, or Barbenhemier. Also, the release date was pushed back due to the simultaneous writers and actors strikes which halted production on most movies and TV shows, so the studios were forced to space out their movie premieres.
Its waaay too expensive. Why do these movies, or games for that matter cost sooo much to make? They made movies and games in the past that didn't cost the budget of a small country. Its like what in the hell is going on? This is why they fail even when they are actually successful.
Or it's just Inflation that makes modern movies look very expensive, because The Fall Guy would have cost around 60 Million US Dollar if it was made in 90s or specificly 1995, just as much as for example Heat costed.
I watched it in the theatre for the second time this week
This film only came out, like 5 secs ago. Give it a break, man!
As someone who used to watch the series I saw the ads and was were they trying to do a 21 Jump Street comedy reboot again. I did not watch the 21 Jump Street as I detest comedy reboots of a serious series I grew up with.
That's exactly what I took from the trailer too. Another decent past IP turned into a modern sarcastic screwball comedy with characters who all have about 85 IQ? Nope.
You missed out because it was a great fun movie. A love letter to classic stunts, stuntman, and practical effects
There is a strong media-wide push to label this as a failure or flop. Don't believe it. It's an entertaining movie with an interesting story.
Don't listen to WhatCulture's disingenuous take and sleep on this film.
Do a google search and compare the budget and box office. I expected you "literally us" crowd to save it and couldn't even do that lul
it's great movie, but it doesn't looks like 150mil movie, seem like most of the budget gone to mostly overlooked set of the "metalstorm" movie inside this movie
Its a fantastic movie if it flops it’s because of one reason Barbie. Most neutrals will forever associate Ryan Gosling with Barbie and this will be a turn off for them
I was so sceptical but i saw it yesterday and it is so fun!!!! Ryan and Emily have great chemistry, pacing is great, stunts are great! Yes there r couple of minor plot holes (like how he had such a drastic fall but in 18 months he is falling and fighting?). But still it was worth movie ticket! We had so much fun in cinema.
Bruh,,, we got $20 for Netflix, but 17.99 for one movie
Just saw it today. It was hilarious and awesome. 👏
Good movie. Plus I wouldn't call $30M the first weekend as a flop. Unless they spend $300M making it, but then that would be on them.
The spend 150 million + 50 million advertising. It needs to make 400 million at least
@@TobiasFirefly Christ on a cracker, $150M? And how the F did they spend $50M on ads? I literally saw 1 trailer.
$80 - $100 million would have been a better start since it has to make at least $400 million to turn a profit
I'm 45 and although I didn't mind the show when I was a child. It certainly hasn't got the draw to make me go and watch a film with literally no relation to the TV series bar the name. No idea why you would make this film bar having literally no other ideas. My son in his 20's world have no idea about the TV series
“Why?” Slaps head “Here’s why!”
I saw the movie Sunday and so far its one of my favorite movies of the year the haters are wrong.
Yep great fun action
Really, flopped?
I found it fun and cool.
Maybe it's still gaining.
150M budget and earned 127M ONLY lol I expected the "literally us" memers to support the movie
@@arvinjay336 that's sad.
Yes really. It flopped. Deservedly so.
I only wanted to see this because I grew up watching the Fall Guy TV show and had fond childhood memories. I did not care it was Ryan Gossling. Honestly if someone were asking he's probably not who I'd have said should be cast. I didn't e even know he was supposed to be an action star.
Watched the film Saturday and it was great 👍 7/10
i only watched it for ryan but i genuinely enjoyed it so much, never felt like i needed to leave the cinema to "go to the toilet". genuinely a good movie and it was funny
He should rename his video to “I didn’t like the fall guy movie”
The original fall guy intro song would have probably been a better choice.
Amazing video what culture of fall guy somewhat fail flop, fantastic job. There still a chance that will pull around make a comeback too. But I will still for it on streaming or on demand too.
The trailers gave away too much.
I heard the trailers were misleading. That the movie was actually a rom-com but the trailers disguised it as an action movie
@@radrobd123 It's both a rom-com and an action film. They should have leaned more into the practical stunts of the film.
David Leitch should direct TRANSFORMERS
It's simple why it flopped, Ryan Gosling is popular amongst women, not men. That's why he was such a great fit in the Barbie film. However, men don't see him as a strong male lead.
The Fall Guy tv show great.
Also I never spent much time in school, but I Taught ladies plenty
Easy, people already know how the film gonna end.
I mean, I didn't even know the Fall Guy was a thing, so that may be one of the reasons.
I have tiers of priority for seeing movies: top tier is see it as soon as it hits theaters. second is try to see it in the theater. 3rd is wait for it on Netflix DVD (I don't have the internet bandwidth for streaming). 4th is wait for it to hit TV, and 5th is, if it's on, don't bother to get up to get the remote. understandably, my movie consumption has dropped off sharply since last september.
Loved this movie! Engaging story, engaging actors with great chemistry, no socio-political overtones (SO sick of that being forced down our throats)...and (literally) explosive action! Really a fun watch, and the most enjoyable movie I've seen in-theater in ages. If you want sheer popcorn entertainment, here it is. Really hoping that word of mouth will propel better box office returns. Maybe they'll make up for it in streaming; but it really needs to be enjoyed on the big screen imo.
Or maybe cinemas are charging far too much for a normal admission and the treats that they sell (i normally bring my own)
The amount of times over the last 10 years ive been to see a film and theres only about 10 people in the screening. So instead of charging £15 to get 10 people. Maybe offer better discounts (which i know that cinemas do for different days of the week) £5 per ticket and get 100+ people in there. Cinemas seem to buck the trend of supply and demand... "So less people are going to the cinema what shall we do people?!?!". Errrrrr "jack the price up??????"
People don’t recall when movies were fun😂
You thought this was fun? Okay
In the words of Shirley Bennett from Community “that sounds very appealing… to filmmakers.”
A Hollywood movie about the movie industry in Hollywood isn’t exactly the rest of the country’s cup of tea. It’s a good movie, but it’s as masturbatory of a premise as it gets.
i just opened in the UK last week, give it a chance at least, why is something a flop if it doesn't make a billion in a week?
Cause box office is actually very predictable when you know what number the movie opened with... This one would need incredible word of mouth and no competition in order to break even
That’s what people said about many movies that have died a painful death at the theatre. I even said that to other people about The Marvels and look what happened with that. Unless this movie can generate over $400 - $500 million at the box office (which I doubt it will) then it will be considered a flop.
Has nothing to do with the TV show other than title - which they misuse - character name Colt Seavers, and the truck.
There’s no reason to even have called it The Fall Guy
It was great. I loved the focus on practical effects, and reduced special effects... and I loved the 80s show. The whole movie in a movie cliche was a little tired, but I would watch again... that said, I grew up watching Lee Majors. My kids have no desire to see the movie, and thats the problem
Just speaking for myself, I have Ryan fatigue. Very tired of both Gosling and Reynolds. Not interested in seeing them in anything, frankly. I will also be skipping Deadpool ( hate the character), and IF.
I think name and attachment to a forgotten ip like fall guy tv series didn’t give hype to the movie, they should have come up with another name honestly if the movie name was something like kendom movie would have got more buzz especially gosling coming from blockbuster like barbie
They working Ewan like Stephen A Smith
I don't know how many of each of their movies that I actually care for maybe 1 or 2 a piece. But saying that they are not big enough names to bring in an audience as one of the reasons why the movie is doing bad is wild. I would not go and see this movie no matter who was in it , and not because the acting it just looks like a dumb movie , thats just my opinion tho. anyone who has seen it , is it actually any good?
I blame Emily Blunt wholeheartedly.
no, blame the "literally us" memers who didn't support the movie lul
Or people are getting tired of Hollywood taking shows they loved in the 80s and turning them into generic action comedies.
Exactly👍 21 Jump Street is one of my favourite 80’s shows and both the movies they made from that were so dumb. I’ll stick to the original thank you very much.
Screw that. The movie was AWESOME. It was fun, had action, and was funny. This is the kind of movie that people who have favorite seats at the theatre love to see. Probably single handedly funded every stunt person in the industry too.
People, go watch the damn movie in theaters!
It was a romantic-comedy with a few action scenes.
I was expecting a straight action film, which it wasn't and I'm sure I wasn't the only one with those expectations.
The marketing was forced down our throats and the film looked mid
It’s certainly and odd choice to remake
