Arthur does call himself the “workhorse” of the gang, which is completely true. And it’s not even just that he’s smart too, he’s shown that he’s more than capable of being a leader with has a knack for finding low risk high reward jobs. I mean Dutch choosing to go with Micah’s plan instead of Arthur and Hosea‘s plan is why everything went wrong in the first place.

"I'll be back" was the last lie he told Arthur before realizing that he doesn't need to lie to leave for good.

We also know John knew Trelawny yet didn’t know the strange man. (And don’t try to say “bUt mUH ArThuR” from the first game because all thats just cause they clearly couldn’t have written that far ahead, beside the epilogue already gave an explanation that John never liked talking about that time. So no, he didn’t just forget him.) on top of that, aside from Trelawny having a infinite supply of birds that would make Pearson weep up his literal sleeve, he doesn’t appear to have any omnipotent abilities like the strange man. So really, aside from how they dressed, Trelawny and the strange man don’t really have that much in common.
A lot of things do change gameplay-wise after the diagnosis, actually. Arthur will start losing weight massively after Guarma, and it becomes incredibly hard to gain any weight back even if you eat candies, chocolate bars and drink alcohol like a divorced middle-aged woman, he will also start coughing up a storm whenever you make him smoke or drink anything strong, even coffee, his breathing becomes waaaay too labored and coughy (compared to the beginning of the game) even if you were only running for what's essentially nothing. None of these really affect anything, and getting TB doesn't really debuffs him in any way, which might be why a lot of people miss these details. I don't wanna sound like the "well actually" kid, I just think they're pretty awesome little details that are extremely easy to miss.

Bolt action and Carcano are better than Springfield and Rolling block rifles, semi auto and pump action sbotguns are better than the double barrel shotgun, pistols would be better than revolvers if you could carry more ammo, otherwise pistols shred. Simultaneously, civilization is spreading and with it a new type of crime. You don't rob banks at gun point, you rob them in a way that normal people can't even sense. You don't rob people at gun point, you siphon their tax money. Gunslingers are old news and as Arthur himself said, they were among the last and would soon be dealt with

Believe it or not This scene got me almost in tears ,knowing what was happening and listen the "This is pretty much over" was just horrible for me ,I didn't want to be over ,I didn't wanted to keep playing the missions but i did
I understand Arthur. At this point he was preety much a dead man walking. His days were numbered. He understood that the rest of the gang members had a long life ahead, like Mary-Beth, Tilly or Trelawny here, and he did his utmost to help them. The gang wasn't safe anymore. Ever since Hosea died, Dutch's decisions became increasingly erratic. Micah saw his chance when Arthur doubted him more than ever. He replaced him as Dutch's right-hand man, poisoning his mind and turning him against the rest of the gang. That, along with his head injury back in the failed trolley station heist, turned him into a deranged psychopath. What could Arthur do at this point? All he knew was the outlaw lifestyle, like he said, "he was set free to fight". He wouldn't have been able to fit into society. All he could do at this point was trying to save the rest of the gang members that deserved saving before he passed: John, Abigail and Jack (and even this would prove futile, as John threw away all he got by killing Micah. That's what Ross needed to find him again, as we see in the end credits).
I love Trelawny, he's such a kind con man for a con artist, just chilling and mostly conning to hide his family from the gang, when Arthur found out Arthur understood with time and it was such a sad thing but it was bittersweet watching him leave to take care of his family
I like how, like a true con artist, Trelawny immediately went to lying and said that he was going to come back. Every character has a thing and Trelawny’s is talking and lying without actually saying anything. However, Arthur (having known Trelawny for years) recognised the hesitation and knew what was going on. Such a good scene
I really feel like when Arthur met sister he truly changed.. his mentality during the time he had left was more selfless and sacrificial, like a hero freeing his old flock from the shackles of death, even if it meant rushing his..
The “no you wont” was so well animated you can really see the conviction and emotion in Arthur’s eyes knowing that trelawney is just bending around the bush.
It made me sad the see Trelawny leave the gang. I really liked his charm, sense of humor, and compassion forth members of the gang. However in the end it was a right choice due to Dutch becoming more selfish and putting other members of the gang at risk. I wish that in RDR2 that they could have more information on Trelawny on what he does after the gang.

I love how Arthur hints at that he's dying but the moment it's asked he pushes it away so they don't stay for him. He wanted everyone safe and if people knew he'd die they'd stay not wanting to leave and he dies
I don't even remember this scene to be completly honest. This game can come up randomly and still bring tears to my eyes. It proves to me over and over why all this isn't "It's just a game". I cried more during this game then at any movie I've seen

Trelawny was deadass my favorite character (aside from Arthur of course.) in the game. I was so happy to do another mission with him, just for him to leave 😢
Literally just played this mission 20 minutes ago and had to sit back and have a break afterwards. This is probably one of the best missions I have played yet
Trelawny. Another one of my favorite people within the gang. I understand him from the beginning, they needed someone like trelawny to be their eyes and ears ahead of the gang. This part was sad but he knew or atleast had an idea what was going on and needed to leave before things get real bad for him and probably won't see his family again. Swear this game is just pretty damn legendary.
Trelawny lead this convo with multiple lies in a row, but when he told arthur he'd miss him you could see the genuine emotion in his face. ever the con man, but a true friend.
Honestly, there was such a strangely cathartic relief to see each gang member leaving. It was sad to see them go, but also felt like watching a cult member finally break free of their conditioning and getting the hell away from their tormentors.
It's great what Arthur did for Trelawny. Even though he was making the right decision, Trelawny might have felt guilty for "abandoning" the gang for the rest of his life, but having Arthur's blessing must've rly eased up his conscience.
Arthur is a character that I'll always carry with me for the rest of my life, even though he's not real it almost feels like he was. He was so well written 👏
Seriously… this is one of the greatest video games of all time… if not #1.. the storytelling, the character dynamics, the long term arc of Arthur, the End of the Wild West setting, it’s like every classic western rolled into one story. Perfect
Trelawny was a great character, on the city you can fin his house and hear son voicelines. A good man with family who cares about his woman and childs. Arthur understood and gave him the best luck ❤
I feel like Trelawny had such nervousy to leave the gang & that he’s making the kind of excuses such as, “being back.” or, “seeing you soon.” Because Dutch possibly wouldn’t allow anyone to leave the gang, take for example calling Pearson, Uncle & Mary cowards for choosing to leave & making it seem like they ran off when they had good times in the past but yet we all know he’s not aware that his actions have lead to where they are now, ofcourse it’s obvious Arthur isn’t letting anyone die for that nonsense, ESPECIALLY John’s family, when Arthur told him to go while the place was quiet & merciful while with going with his blessing, you can hear that trelawny had large but if gratitude, because he’s able to leave.
Chapter 6 broke my heart. Especially after seeing how things started. Everyone cared for each other and the camaraderie and then to see how things ended 😢
It sucks when you say a final goodbye to someone. But it is important it's time to move on in life. This was actually a sad goodbye because of how sudden yet honest and genuine it was.
The "thank you arthur" hit me for some reason just the look in his eyes i think its bc arthur is this outlow who isnt scared to fight and trelawny is like this shy guy who doesnt want to get involved in anything bad he is just sl nervous to talk with arthur and then the thank you...you can just see how relieved he is that he gets Arthur's blessing i just get hit by it

Maintaining good relationships with the whole gang makes the ending so much sadder since everyone starts to see he is about to die and just like trelawny they’ll all tell Arthur how good of a man he was. I found for my Arthur there’s a line between on and dishonor and maintaining the gang was always first priority in those choices.

All he could do at this point was trying to save the rest of the gang members that deserved saving before he passed: John, Abigail and Jack (and even this would prove futile, as John threw away all he got by killing Micah. That's what Ross needed to find him again, as we see in the end credits).

I love Trelawny, he's such a kind con man for a con artist, just chilling and mostly conning to hide his family from the gang, when Arthur found out Arthur understood with time and it was such a sad thing but it was bittersweet watching him leave to take care of his family

I like how, like a true con artist, Trelawny immediately went to lying and said that he was going to come back. Every character has a thing and Trelawny’s is talking and lying without actually saying anything. However, Arthur (having known Trelawny for years) recognised the hesitation and knew what was going on. Such a good scene

The “no you wont” was so well animated you can really see the conviction and emotion in Arthur’s eyes knowing that trelawney is just bending around the bush.

I love Trelawney. His missions go less wrong than everyone else's. Some go without a hitch!
It made me sad the see Trelawny leave the gang. I really liked his charm, sense of humor, and compassion forth members of the gang. However in the end it was a right choice due to Dutch becoming more selfish and putting other members of the gang at risk. I wish that in RDR2 that they could have more information on Trelawny on what he does after the gang.
You can find those details in rdr online, he's there and gives us some missions I think, he becomes a magician

I love how Arthur hints at that he's dying but the moment it's asked he pushes it away so they don't stay for him. He wanted everyone safe and if people knew he'd die they'd stay not wanting to leave and he dies

I don't even remember this scene to be completly honest. This game can come up randomly and still bring tears to my eyes. It proves to me over and over why all this isn't "It's just a game". I cried more during this game then at any movie I've seen

Trelawny. Another one of my favorite people within the gang. I understand him from the beginning, they needed someone like trelawny to be their eyes and ears ahead of the gang. This part was sad but he knew or atleast had an idea what was going on and needed to leave before things get real bad for him and probably won't see his family again. Swear this game is just pretty damn legendary.

The conversation between Arthur and Reverend in the train station was much more heart breaking.
It makes sense for Arthur to give his blessing. He is next in command after Dutch after all, despite the shift in power within the gang.
I literally cried when he left. Trelawny was a real one, he helped rob a boat, he was never really rude, he just wanted to help.
One of my favorite moments. Arthur was such a beast. The sit down with his head down. He took the finality of it all with a gruff grace
“Let’s not pretend no more” is such a shattering statement, leads to believe that we both knew about the charades.

Honestly, there was such a strangely cathartic relief to see each gang member leaving. It was sad to see them go, but also felt like watching a cult member finally break free of their conditioning and getting the hell away from their tormentors.
It's great what Arthur did for Trelawny. Even though he was making the right decision, Trelawny might have felt guilty for "abandoning" the gang for the rest of his life, but having Arthur's blessing must've rly eased up his conscience.
Arthur is a character that I'll always carry with me for the rest of my life, even though he's not real it almost feels like he was. He was so well written 👏

I feel like Trelawny had such nervousy to leave the gang & that he’s making the kind of excuses such as, “being back.” or, “seeing you soon.” Because Dutch possibly wouldn’t allow anyone to leave the gang, take for example calling Pearson, Uncle & Mary cowards for choosing to leave & making it seem like they ran off when they had good times in the past but yet we all know he’s not aware that his actions have lead to where they are now, ofcourse it’s obvious Arthur isn’t letting anyone die for that nonsense, ESPECIALLY John’s family, when Arthur told him to go while the place was quiet & merciful while with going with his blessing, you can hear that trelawny had large but if gratitude, because he’s able to leave.
I just wanted to give Arthur a hug so bad in this scene like...😭😭😭😭😭😭

Maintaining good relationships with the whole gang makes the ending so much sadder since everyone starts to see he is about to die and just like trelawny they’ll all tell Arthur how good of a man he was. I found for my Arthur there’s a line between on and dishonor and maintaining the gang was always first priority in those choices.
