I’m literally going to test drive an S650 tomorrow. 300a, white, 10spd. I wasn’t interested because they wouldn’t budge on the price. That was a month ago, HOWEVER, I got a phone call yesterday saying that the price has dropped by 5,000 on the one I was I previously looking at. Now being a long time subscriber (Re-Do Blu) I have to say, you make a very good point. I knew about the locked ECU, but like you, I was optimistic about the future of the platform. Now that I have realized that my guy has had his for a year….and Ford has done nothing, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. GREAT VIDEO bro. Looking forward to more Blucifer content…maybe i should just get a S197 instead🤔
I get what you’re saying but I did want to say this. Stock for stock. It’s the fastest muscle car out right now. Naturally aspirated that is. Secondly the car’s computer even without the tune is automatically calibrating for bolt on modifications without the tune. Headers, intakes, and fuel even with no tune are still picking up good power. With headers and intakes you’re going to be able to run close to an 11.5 and your 60-130 will be in the 9s. Which is super solid. Plus the new interiors are awesome. Im a Camaro owner, I love talking trash on stangs lol, it’s good fun for sure. I’ve owned two 5.0’s in the past though and the S650 has some seriously cool features.
@@clayh2643 that "auto calibration" sees no gains at all what is the point a Lund 93 tune ffe s550 puts a train on the heavier s650. You are delusional. On paper a Whipple s650 makes how much 800hp? My s550 with headers and Whipple 3.0 Lund tune put 2 plus cars on a Whipple s650 I raced. I make 700 to the wheels. So a 100 plus HP car gets gapped by a fully loaded last gen. Stop apologizing for terrible products.
Low sales definitely due to no tuning. People love modifying their cars and when you only have 2 options for boost: Roush and Whipple blowers, a lot of people are going to move to other platforms like the M series. Glad I kept my gen 3.
Agreed on the price. I want the better manual. Naturally, I was looking at the Dark Horse. At the price, I could pick up a lightly used GT350 with the same transmission. Decided to wait to see what depreciation does to a Dark Horse and maybe pick up a CPO.
Just bought a 24’ GT Premium (active exhaust + 20” wheels) before the new year. Several local dealers said they’ve been sitting on the lots for months. They blamed economy/2024 election “nerves” and just the lack of interest locally in coupes over Broncos and Trucks. I was happy to grab mine several grand under MSRP and got an interest rate through Ford about 1/2 of what my banks were offering (horrible) on new vehicles. I’d say price, interest rates and declining interest in coupes are all to blame over the actual vehicle’s blemishes/negatives. So far, I love the look and drive of my new S650.
No it's tuning. People like me who had money ready to boost a car off rip can't tune it we ain't gonna buy. I went and bought 22 right before the 24 launched after hearing it had rolling encryption and Shelby raptor r was still untunable. Now I'm sitting at 700whp daily and no 24 mustang wants to even try to run me.
I have a 2024 mustang GT 301a MT.82 and personally I really like the screens I love the car. only complaint I have is tuning is still locked. I’m keeping my hopes up it comes out this year.
I have a '24 base GT and got it for 43+K. I'd say it's not a bad price for what I got (considering the economy at the time). I took it to HPDEs last summer and had a lot of fun. But, it is extremely frustrating not being able to tune it. I installed the X-pipe, took out the carbon filters, and changed the air filters. I even Dremel'd out the grill in front of the air intakes to clear the path. I can't do anything else, except spend another 12K on a supercharger (all in) in order to bump the performance. That's insane. And, I don't have 12k. I emptied my bank account on the car itself. Sadly, I saw the same car for '25 is now 47k.
4:30 ugh the coyote cold start sound is horrible, that should be fixed by ford too lol. So if I understand correctly, the ECU is locked and you cannot tune anything else, only be allowed to install a Whipple and THEIR tune only?
I got an s650 last year as my first “sports car”. Going from a civic to american muscle was great so I’ve had a blast all year with it. Still love it to death but really want to enjoy it more with tuning. Really holding me back from modifying the car since the only option is supercharged.
Pricing is getting too crazy on these Stangs Derek! I bought a new GT/CS in 22 and don't see me up grading anytime soon. I also have a newedge i almost got arrested in. Thank GOD the police officer was a Mustang enthusiast!😂I love my newedge.
You have a good point with prices being way over the top right now but I don't think it's just limited to mustangs. I'd love to get into a mustang some day but I'm either gen 1 or gen 3 and both are actually holding their value simply cause of how bad the new ones are tanking
To be fair, the mach-e had and still have a bunch of incentives as well as low aprs that played a role in their sales which could explain why they sold more than the 2024 mustangs
Tuning might help some but I think the real issue is the price. These cars have insanely high prices now. In 2016 my S550 GT performance pack fully loaded cost me $36k. The same car now is approx $60k
Uniontown ford in pa. Ordered a carbonized gray GT with the bronze package. It was one of the first 24’s to hit the lot in our area. And it is still setting there. It’s such a beautiful car I thought for sure it would have sold by now. Even though I don’t like the digital dashboard. I would still consider buying it if the price and interest rates weren’t so high.
Derek you are the best automotive youtuber, Best looking Cars, Im trying to get my parents to buy me a 2014 Mustang GT premium in manual, I wanna start a youtube channel exactly like you man, build up a stang, You've inspired me Derek!
So I've been subscribed for a long time thru a couple different YT channels I've had, somehow like a while back I got unsubscribed but I didn't do that, so heads up folks make sure to hit that button to fight back against the machine
I’d never spend that kind of money on a vehicle this expensive that I can’t do what I want to it because I can’t tune it. I’ll just spend the money on an older one that I can tune it when ever I want
Most mustang drivers including myself appreciate the upgraded interior and tech the lead contributor to the failure to market is tuning and number the PRICE. Here in Texas you see a lot of younger enthusiast in their 20s driving 5.0s but these s650 are out of their price range. However the Shelbys were always for the older or more established consumer
I’m just getting into these. I like them and now want one but confused by all the S550 vs S650? Anyone care to educate me. I googled it and just get exterior differences in styling? What’s is it really?? Someone?
I'm glad you mentioned the pricing cause that's a huge part of the failure. Tuning is a niche community whereas most will do an intake and exhaust and call it a day. Others might add suspension and wheels. Full bolt-on and tuning is a small percentage. The ridiculous prices of vehicles today is the biggest problem. Ford trucks and Broncos exceeding $80K is insane and they have lost me entirely. Therefore, I'll watch your awesome content and remember the days of my '89 GT with full bolt-ons and my '04 Mach 1 that I enjoyed so much. No chance I'm buying anything new. I make good money but between payments, insurance, and VA PP Tax it just makes no sense when it wouldn't be my daily. I do agree that tuning being unlocked would result in more sales. Maybe 5,000 more units or so.
I think the price is reasonable relatively speaking. Bought my base GT brand new for $42k. I’m happy with that. I think the trend might reverse for next year. 1st year body style change, etc. takes time to grow on people.
Hey man love the content! Also from VA had my S650 for about 5 months and love it! Granted I don’t have all the extra money for a whipple but still love doing the small thing to it. Got the Oxford white bronze package 43 out the door!! Keep up the great work!
Great video, I own a S650 and love it, and most of the guys I know that have them enjoy them also. But that being said when folks talk to me about them the first thing they mention is the price. Everything is increasing in price hell look at the price of eggs. Be able to tune may have boosted sales slightly but there still would've been a decline in sales. Me what I think hurt sales is that a lot of orders were put on hold because couldn't get some options they wanted. Not saying it would've jumped 10,000 sales but quite a few folks still don't have cars they ordered. Just my Two cents, keep up the great content.
my biggest thing as a dark horse owner is the fact that the interior rattles are horrible. for a 2024 with 1700 miles on it, the car rattles more than my 35 year old Miata with 200k on it. Idk if it’s just personal experience or not but it’s making me want to get rid of it already.
What kills me is the price, Im going whipple with my gen 2 anyways so id love to get one with the s650 and I do dig the appearance of it. And as someone who's not shooting for like 1k hp I think id be fine with just the tune that comes with the whipple on the s650. But at the moment I just cant see myself dropping 40-60k on the s650 and then 10-12k for a whipple ontop of that
Hey I just wana say thanks I only use youtube to watch your videos any more.. but I wana take time to thank you..truly my girl friend passed away on Monday in car accident and I been binge watch all the old video I watched alot of them in the past but been a follower since 2022 love the channel bro
Darek your S650 is an awesome Mustang GT. The price was the #1 reason for the lower sales. However, the lack of tuning due to the locked ECU/ECM is contributing to the lower sales!!!! Ford needs to wake the heck up‼️‼️‼️The price for the 2025 S650 has climbed almost $4K above the 2024. Plus interest rates to finance a new Mustang is also killing sales!!!! You are gonna miss your White S650 when it is down in Florida. Plus if it is not garage kept the heat and salt will age the car very quickly. I lived in Florida and couldn’t wait to get out of FL after 8 years. Many reasons to not live in Florida. South Carolina and North Carolina and Tennessee are much better weather to live and survive throughout the year. Miss your Mach I Brother!!! 👍👊💪🐎🇺🇸😎
It’s the price, my GT Performance with magnaride in BC Canada was $83,000 after a last minute ford discount of $2,000. Couldn’t justify getting the Dark Horse and paying over $100,000 for it.
Not being able to customize the new cars with a tune and the insane prices are what's killing the Mustangs. Ford's unfortunately lacking self awareness to realize this. They're being greedy with the price and they lost the point of what made the Mustang truly enjoyable for their enthusiasts. You said it, we don't want a ridiculous amount of tech and the Mustang to try and be something its not. My daily is a Golf GTI. I specifically bought a 2020 Mark 7.5 instead of the newer mark 8s with the all digital dash because I love seeing analog meters - tagging on what you said about the Shelby's not having digital dash's. I'd rather spend that kind of "24 Mustang" money on a nice 13-14 S197 and modify it like you did with Blucifer. Right now, I'm happy with my 2008 and putting some minor mods on it to make it "my own" for a total buy in for less than $20K and 33K miles when I bought it. If I ever get a newer one, it would be the 13-14.
I've been waiting for years looking for a mustang. I hated the interiors on the 550s, and the previous boxy style prior.. when the 24s came out, i loved the interior. And the new front-end so I bought it. I constantly look online I think Ford prices have a lot to do with greedy dealerships.
Kmsl I had own a 20 330i and I must say the digital dash was lovely but the your right about the mustangs they wanna keep up with the Jones but they failing in performance production
As a gen 3 S550 GT owner with a full bolt on E85 tune on it, I will say it is, out of the gate, phenomenal. I do agree that the sales may be down because of the locked ecu’s but it might also have to do with the fact that these, out of factory, are just not it. Kinda like you said, the new tech in the car kind of defeats the rawness and classic Mustang enthusiasts experience. If your buying a Mustang it’s because your into the heritage and the long dating history of the Mustang chassis. This is trying too hard to modernize and fit in with the new “muscle car” debate. Let’s face it, with the way the market is shaping up to be now, your buying a Mustang because it’s the true American muscle, whether that is because it’s the only one left out of the three or because it’s just simply better, the name carries more respect than any other brand. If ford is watching this then it should be a wake up call. “Don’t fix what is not broken” and if the gen 3s were top sellers then give us the evolution of that. Sure, the minor changes are appreciated and I’ve been in the s650s and can truly say they are still a great car despite those lacking areas, but give the people what they know best and what we, as consumers, will be happy to jump into everyday with a smile on our face knowing we can go gap nearly any car of the same category with a simple tune and modifications
I left Ford Mustang and Shelby American multiple emails, messages on instagram page, commnents trying to emphasize issues that could be improved with the new models, and I was banned from Shelby Americans ig page after my comment got enough spotlight, and Ford keeps ignoring me. We as consumers need to come together so we can keep this a true american icon for muscle cars, its important that Jim Farley can address the public on things that need improvement, and we if we can't get across to corporate then someone needs to advocate for us.
My guess is that tuning rights go to the highest bidder. Ford is clocking in on the aftermarket money. Whipple clearly paid for some exclusivity and I think tuning won’t be available until that term is up.
I had a supercharged Gen 3 and loved it. When this thing came out, I went the supercharged C7 Vette route and have zero regrets. Ford really dropped the ball.
Shoulda whippled or done ESS on the mach 1 and kept it, i could see to the future when you mentioned selling it that you would sooner or later regret that. It wouldnt have been quite as fast as the s650 whippled but would have been super cool/fun and more of a “special” car in future but oh well could always get another or GT350
Def the price and those ugly screens. I literally bought a gen 3 because of the screens. Then tuning, but I dont think tuning is the reason for low sales.
There's a 2024 Darkhorse DBP blue 10spd for $57k on Cargurus 9k miles , that's worth it they have Differential coolers w/fans trans and oil coolers, magnaride susp, 4wheel brembos with drift brake, stringer stock engine, loaded Darkhorses are basically the New Mach1s with extra goodies even
Already having the s550 I am so happy I never upgraded and I had many chances to. The 3rd gen has the better looks in my opinion and I got the PP1 at around 40k brand new, the s650 base is like 47k lol.
For all your reasons was my reasons for buying a 23GT. I specifically did not like the dash those two big tablets. Secondly, the price and being the first model year. I Agree just leave that dash alone and stop jacking with it
It's definitely tuning. People keep saying it's price, but it's not. The 2015 mustang was 32k in 2015 which is 43k adjust for inflation same price as it is now. Being able to easily mod, upgrade, and tune, mustangs along with people seeming to like the fastback look better than the Camaro was a big reason it was popular. It's the reason BMWs are blowing up. They're easy to make on with a couple upgrades even though the cars themselves are more expensive

Go s550 mach 1
@@clayh2643 that "auto calibration" sees no gains at all what is the point a Lund 93 tune ffe s550 puts a train on the heavier s650.
You are delusional.
On paper a Whipple s650 makes how much 800hp? My s550 with headers and Whipple 3.0 Lund tune put 2 plus cars on a Whipple s650 I raced. I make 700 to the wheels. So a 100 plus HP car gets gapped by a fully loaded last gen. Stop apologizing for terrible products.
Sold my gen 3 s550 about a year ago and man do I miss it 😓
I miss the mach haha i feel you
Tried to tell you to keep the mach. As long as Farley runs Ford it's a dead brand.
Low sales definitely due to no tuning. People love modifying their cars and when you only have 2 options for boost: Roush and Whipple blowers, a lot of people are going to move to other platforms like the M series. Glad I kept my gen 3.
3 Pro charger is available now
Thats what im thinking too honestly
Finally someone on here with some sense.
Mainly the price imo but yet here I am stuck in the early 2000s in an 03 Cobra lol
Bro thats so true 🤣🤣🤣
Fellow new edge owner🤟🏾😂
Same haha, love my new edge GT. Little modular engine refuses to die! 😂
03 Cobra is where it's at, regardless of prices of newer cars!
@ 4.6s never die easy
Agreed on the price. I want the better manual. Naturally, I was looking at the Dark Horse. At the price, I could pick up a lightly used GT350 with the same transmission. Decided to wait to see what depreciation does to a Dark Horse and maybe pick up a CPO.
Tuning options coming available might help sales come up but again I think like you covered earlier they are alot of moneys for getting a mustang
Now I'm sitting at 700whp daily and no 24 mustang wants to even try to run me.
i just got a 24 too. theyll hack it eventually and this no-tune point will be moot.
@@hatch450sx3you’re right car enthusiasts want more power, we always itching for that adrenaline 😂😂
I think is a combination of all, the price the non tune and the lost of quality on Fords part to make good reliable muscle cars
This ^^^
Gm doesn't know what quality is. They lost quality years ago.
Really good point on tuning and it’s relationship to sales!
I totally agree. Everyone doesn't have the budget for a whipple.
Nope
Does anyone know If the Dark Horse Front bumper will fit on the 5.0 ?
You seem happier in this video with such good vibes. Hope you genuinely happy and getting over the winter depression
Yes ford definitely needs too change things and make them tunable. I do like your 24! Sales would spike if they unlock the tune.
I agree man! and thank you dude!
Cant get over the 2024 interior, that dash is a imax screen and HVAC in a touch screen is a deal breaker. So happy with my 2022
I have a 2024 mustang GT 301a MT.82 and personally I really like the screens I love the car. only complaint I have is tuning is still locked. I’m keeping my hopes up it comes out this year.
the price for these alone drag the sales down so much
especially dodge, if both companies drop vehicle prices sales will go up SO much
Righhht
I agree with you and am returning my 24 5.0 manual for the same reason.
Damnnnn
What you getting?
4:30 ugh the coyote cold start sound is horrible, that should be fixed by ford too lol. So if I understand correctly, the ECU is locked and you cannot tune anything else, only be allowed to install a Whipple and THEIR tune only?
Just an idea but what do you think about a terminator swap in blue2valve?? Zr1 and blucifer looking good in the garage
Would be sickn
I got an s650 last year as my first “sports car”. Going from a civic to american muscle was great so I’ve had a blast all year with it. Still love it to death but really want to enjoy it more with tuning. Really holding me back from modifying the car since the only option is supercharged.
Still get some power with the basic bolt ons
Facts
really really good video! well spoken, very direct point good job, your content is always very enjoyable but this one really hit the mark! Subscribed!
Thank you for that man!
I read on the internet that it is possible to put a tune on a 2024 mustang GT it's just difficult because of the electronics but it can be done
I feel your pain picked up a screw in my drag radials two weeks after I got them I patched plugged it and it’s been fine since
Dude, legit the WORST feeling man haha
Love it, the only thing I think you should add would be Diode Dynamics fog lights as the cherry on top
How many miles have you put on it since you bought it.
Pricing is getting too crazy on these Stangs Derek! I bought a new GT/CS in 22 and don't see me up grading anytime soon. I also have a newedge i almost got arrested in. Thank GOD the police officer was a Mustang enthusiast!😂I love my newedge.
How is tuning still locked, but you can get a whipple tune?
You have a good point with prices being way over the top right now but I don't think it's just limited to mustangs. I'd love to get into a mustang some day but I'm either gen 1 or gen 3 and both are actually holding their value simply cause of how bad the new ones are tanking
To be fair, the mach-e had and still have a bunch of incentives as well as low aprs that played a role in their sales which could explain why they sold more than the 2024 mustangs
Facts
The running thing is for sure an issue but also the main cause for lower sales is price…..
So I've been subscribed for a long time thru a couple different YT channels I've had, somehow like a while back I got unsubscribed but I didn't do that, so heads up folks make sure to hit that button to fight back against the machine
Dude, you cant make it up… insane
I agree Derek, it’s just not worth it when the S550 is so close to that generation, good video
i def agree w you man i have a s650 myself, how much did your lowering springs lower the car? i love the fitment and want it on mine
I’d never spend that kind of money on a vehicle this expensive that I can’t do what I want to it because I can’t tune it. I’ll just spend the money on an older one that I can tune it when ever I want
Def agree!
@@DerekBaranProductions if they unlock the car sales will go up
$70k for a GT premium?? no thanks. I got a 2014 GT premium instead
This is not a Ford problem. This is a new problem that faces every performance manufacturer.
Maybe 5,000 more units or so.
tbr if you got the money for the car then you got the money for a whipple to unlock tuning
Gen 4’s also have stronger blocks and rotating assemblies. Me personally the Gen1 body with a 3-2-1 build will be the best
I remember back when the s550 (15-17) were coming out you could get a very well optioned one (GT performance pack) around 32-37k brand new
I think the price is reasonable relatively speaking. Bought my base GT brand new for $42k. I’m happy with that. I think the trend might reverse for next year. 1st year body style change, etc. takes time to grow on people.
As a content creator do you control the frequency of ads? I’m 4 mins in and have literally seen 3 ad breaks.
Hey man love the content! Also from VA had my S650 for about 5 months and love it! Granted I don’t have all the extra money for a whipple but still love doing the small thing to it. Got the Oxford white bronze package 43 out the door!! Keep up the great work!
Nice man!!
What's worth it?
When the price drop and the ecu unlocks i might still consider but I think i wanna build a suv
But at the moment I just cant see myself dropping 40-60k on the s650 and then 10-12k for a whipple ontop of that
They priced it too much out side of regular peoples budgets
They really did
Hey I just wana say thanks I only use youtube to watch your videos any more.. but I wana take time to thank you..truly my girl friend passed away on Monday in car accident and I been binge watch all the old video I watched alot of them in the past but been a follower since 2022 love the channel bro
👍👊💪🐎🇺🇸😎
Have you decided on what vehicle you are bringing to PITS?
Hopefully a GT350
Heck yeahhhhh. Voodoo gonna be screaming on the dragon 🐉
It’s the price, my GT Performance with magnaride in BC Canada was $83,000 after a last minute ford discount of $2,000. Couldn’t justify getting the Dark Horse and paying over $100,000 for it.
Pricing and tuning
I constantly look online I think Ford prices have a lot to do with greedy dealerships.
i plan on buying a s650 brand new this year price is scary but i’m only getting older and my dream car has always been a mustang
Need to add that form lighting side marker , rear reflectors and back up light next Derek
F A C T S
Hey Derek, I have a 2017 GT what gen is that?
There's a 2024 Darkhorse DBP blue 10spd for $57k on Cargurus 9k miles , that's worth it they have Differential coolers w/fans trans and oil coolers, magnaride susp, 4wheel brembos with drift brake, stringer stock engine, loaded Darkhorses are basically the New Mach1s with extra goodies even
GT350 or Mach again
Already having the s550 I am so happy I never upgraded and I had many chances to. The 3rd gen has the better looks in my opinion and I got the PP1 at around 40k brand new, the s650 base is like 47k lol.
Who won the gt500 for the raffle was that already announced??
i literally bought a 2022 with 12k miles a month ago bc i didn't like having two big screens in my face, saved me like 15k going with a used s550.
How do you figure price is the issue when theyre the same cost as an old 95 gt when accounting for inflation for a WAY better car..
What about procharger?
I was gonna get a s650 but price is what stopped me ended up getting a maverick and still have a a 03 terminator
I do know Gintani in California is working unlocking the ECU for a friend who does nothing but Mustangs
Really?
@DerekBaranProductions yes he mentioned it on his channel last week or week before when he was tuning a Lambo
U probably seen my last couple vids.. u know i agree 💯 price needs to have options to drop, and get them unlocked 🔓
I actually only saw ears but im glad everyone is on the same oage
@@DerekBaranProductions u coming to Mustang week in Texas?
Hey Derek, what is the fitment for your vms drags? And where can I get them lol
For all your reasons was my reasons for buying a 23GT. I specifically did not like the dash those two big tablets. Secondly, the price and being the first model year.
I Agree just leave that dash alone and stop jacking with it
I think its the economics and styling holding it back more than the tuning.
Thank you bro I GREAT video. I just bought a 21 gen 3 10r80 love it
At that price point, I’d rather get a used mach 1 since you don’t have the flexibility to do what you want tuning wise with the S650s
