    It's good to see a manufacturer involved in education. Other companies would probably have just scrapped the entire lot for the few bucks they'd have received. These damaged or end of life parts are far more valuable as training tools. Good on SOLGW for offering these up to you!

    In the educational scene "Known Bad" parts are just as valuable as "Known Good" parts. There's a reason I love SOLGW and not just for their products.

    I have a War Sport barrel with the gas port off center, still put a few hundred rounds through it before I replaced it. Didn't realize it until I had someone dimple it for the gas block.

    What's "fire cracking "?
    That a great donation by SOLGW!

    • @jaydunbar7538
      @jaydunbar7538 9 місяців тому +5

      It’s from the rapid temperature change when shooting, particularly for the spicy rifle rounds or for anything fully automatic greeting frequently mag dumped.
      It’s not an issue for most people under typical use, your firearms will have some fire cracking in the barrel but it’s only an issue if it starts affecting accuracy. If you look into a used barrel it will look like it’s got scales, that’s fire cracking.

    Question: Why is the Gov't profile so common, even now that bayonets aren't commonly in use and people aren't using flashhiders to bust open boxes? I notice that even KAC and LMT *seem* to use what resembles a slightly modified Gov't profile for their 5.56 rifles. Why not a continuously tapered profile?

    • @SchooloftheAmericanRifle

      Happens often. The Reaction Rod is usually the culprit.

    • @strilight
      @strilight 9 місяців тому

      @@SchooloftheAmericanRifle So the reaction rod has a fit that's too loose for the splines to properly hold the locking lugs which causes all the stress to focus onto the index pin? Geez, I hope my bev block hasn't doing the same thing.

      @@Freedomishere-im6ug I had 3 Barrels bought in 2022 . One 16 and 20 From Brownells and one 16 bought from Primary arms .All ''cold hammer forged'' All 3 started shedding chrome from all lands right off the throat and patches between the lands further up the barrel at a very low round count,under 500 rounds. Brownells took them back with store credit.Primary arms gave me store credit for the other one. The reason I am putting this out is I sent one of the 16" barrels back to FN and they told me '' this is normal wear''. I know I am not the only one having this problem. I own barrels from 4 other company,s . And yes they are all CHF and chrome lined.
