- All right you guys I wanted to help everybody out make a quick tutorial today on how to use your key fob with a push-button ignition if you have no battery or the battery's dead. I get a lot of people that come in and they say "man I couldn't start my car, my battery was so low it barely recognized it" this is after a few years of use or whatnot.
Let me tell you there is a way there's no place to you to put this fab to turn it on in an ignition source, but Nissan was very intelligent, so this is the key fob to this 2018 Murano and you can see I've actually taken the battery right out of it so for this vehicle you can see it says no key detected by press these buttons nothing's happening because there's nothing powering this fault.
So what do we do? How do we start the vehicle I press the push button nothing happens it still says no key detected I put my foot on the brake press it nothing's happening well what we do is we take the key fob that has no power source.
Put a foot on the brake we tap it to the start button holy cow it starts they've actually put a circuit in there that'll recognize this key and you can start your vehicle which is awesome.
The other thing that I guess a lot of people don't know is on the back of these there's a little tab you can just pull over and there is actually a key that goes inside of there you know this key right here fits inside of there and everyone asked me but you said there's no place to put that key well there's no place to start the vehicle with this key but this is how you unlock your driver's door if the key fob has completely died and or something happens it go wet whatever happens you can't get in the vehicle you can actually unlock the driver's door with this then get in press this to the ignition and drive and hopefully you go replace the battery in your key fob.
Anyways that's a little failsafe or you just want to make a video on that and now you know how to start a vehicle with a push-button ignition with no battery in the father alright have a great day.

Got out from working a 12 hour shift at the hospital to a dead fob. I knew about the key so I used that to open the door which set the alarm off for about a minute but then stopped. My dad found your video and told me what to do. Lifesaver!! I was about to call an Uber to give me a ride home. Thank you soooooo much!!

@@JasonGillett I have one question. Sometimes after using the key to manually open the vehicle and drive, when I go to leave the car and lock it again manually, it only locks the drivers door car. All the other doors in my car all appear to automatically unlock upon me exiting the vehicle and I have no way with a dead key fob to lock them all again. It's so infuriating. I usually try and use the last bit of juice in the battery to lock them all but when the key is 100% dead I can't do this. I've tried sitting in the car locking all doors from the inside using the full lock mechanism button on the driver seat door, then getting out and manually locking the drivers door. But when I check all the other doors are open again (all open automatically after opening drivers door to leave the car). It's so annoying! Is there anyway to fully lock all car doors when the key fob is dead? I own a Nissan Micra Elle car.

YOU SAVED MY LIFE! Key Fob Dead. Battery replacement didn't work. Nissan dealer said you'll have to tow it in since you can't drive it. I did what you said and it worked. I have never breathed such a sigh of relief!!!

When I bought my 2011 JUKE, new right from Japan, I asked the dealer right off the bat what if the FOB battery was dead. He showed me the hidden key in the FOB and said this is how you start it. I looked at the steering column and noticed a plastic cover where the ignition switch would go, so I thought, I guess I just pop the cap and I’m in business. The dealership didn’t even know about this deal you can do with your FOB. You saved me a Big future headache. I carried a spare battery for my FOB in the glove box just in case

She accidentally threw the key fob in the wash, and the car didn't start. I told her to open it and put its components in rice for a little bit.
Then she closed the key fob without the battery, did THIS, and it worked!
Life saving, indeed.

So glad for this video. My wife's battery died in her key fob, she called the dealership to see if there was a way to start the car and they said no. I went and put a new battery in her remote, but we found this and tested it and works like a charm on her 2015 pathfinder. She will now never be stranded like that again.

Omg. I don’t have enough ways to say thank you. I literally change the battery in my key fob but somehow I must’ve done something wrong and the key fob stopped working while I was double parked. I just got myself a 2020 nissan versa sv. ive been obsessed with watching these kinds of videos. I originally wanted a toyota but this is what i just ended up leaving with, i dropped the gun too fast and jumped on it without seeing what else cars i had to choose from, lol so debating if i should just pay it off or trade it in a few months for a toyota. i'm grateful though, god is good!

That's been my only fear about having a push to start vehicle. Just bought my first one a couple of weeks ago, a 2019 Nissan Altima SR. Started freaking out because my key fob wasn't as responsive as it should be, having to try several times to get the doors to unlock. I change the battery and all is well but at least I know there's an emergency alternative! So glad I found your video!

Thanks for the tip and video! 👍But lets be real....Keyless starting cars and trucks is the dumbest thing I've seen in a while.... I have one and hate it! You still need the key fob, you still need a key to get in if the battery dies, you still need a key to lock the tail gate in most cases......so WHY do they think it's better than an old fashion normal ass key!!!?? Drives me crazy! I loved my 2001 Tundra with a simple all metal key that I could get copies made anywhere!!! This is technology that is actually a hindrance!!!

Totally agree.
I hate it too but there is absolutely no getting around it nowadays if you want a new vehicle. It is theoretically possible to replace push button start with a traditional keyed ignition system, but would require someone with the ability to reprogram your ECU and possibly some of the other modules. It wouldn't be cheap.

Aug 2nd 2020 Thanks for saving me much stress and upset. My FOB was acting up and even when I put the spare 2032 in it, it would not respond. So then I was about to order a FOB on ebay but wondered how I was going to "program" it. I watched your video and touched it to the start button, actually pushed the button to start--and viola! it worked. You are my Fairy Godmother. thanks so much.

@@PRS247 maybe on the 2013 but not the 2014. I haven't looked specifically for other makes or models but it would make sense that there's a way to use the key to start the car in case of situations like this

@@Taylor-fk2tr yes you are correct, the little key that is inside the fob can be used to manually lock the door on the drivers side or even easier just hit the lock button on the inside door panel :)

Great video, I was trying to put the fob in the center console storage area and couldn't get it to start. Why don't all manufacturers do it this way, hold fob by start button. So glad there’s still a way to start the car with just the fob. I haven’t had my 2019 Nissan Sentra for a year yet, and just had the notification that the battery was low. Low book is slipping.. need to get the battery replaced when I have free time from work.
