I have the car for 13 months and it is problem free ever since :) As Mat said, it is a really practical family SUV, fuel consumption is really low (1.5 Diesel 5.1lt/100km city, 4.7lt/100km average), no engine noise at cruise but a bit much tyre noise. Overall it is a very good choice.
Would you recomend it as a good first car i like big stocky cars if you get what i mean im starting driving lessons next year and this car is top of my list for when i pass my test
Mine (TCe 130hp Intense) will be 5 years in June. Never had a mechanical issue but the infotainment system gets stuck every 10 to 12 months. Symptoms: satnav map freezes or the rear camera image breaks down. Only a reset to factory settings cures it. After 2 years there are no longer map or software updates/upgrades. I suspect the memory fills up with logs or satnav trip calculations/addresses. The clutch feels a little cheap and overwhelmed by the engine torque. It feels like it will give any moment since the day I got the car but it's still going. For the rest it is a real joy to drive and has plenty of space. Oh, and the ground clearance is great so no worries taking speed bumps. Oh, and don't bother putting it in 'Eco' mode because it is nothing more than a fuel rate limiter (at 10l/100km instantaneous rate). It takes much longer to reach cruise speed and so _average_ fuel consumption is much higher than in non-Eco mode.

I will probably change it for the Austral in two years time, I am not in a rush, this car is great!

Not a bad car but the new Peugeot 3008 has completely eclipse it like all the other competitors of the segment :) In addition he is not in adequacy with the new stylistic code of the mark as the news Megane and Talisman.
But in terms of motors this is 100 times better, 4 cilinders against 3. This car is much more reable than those 3 cilinder that will start shaking at 80.000 km
What I dislike about this car (or any Renault for that matter) is how many small items work differently from all others cars, making it unnatural to move it. Like, the stick under the bonnet was mentioned in the video, but think also about stuff like the sun visor for which the spare out to take it down is on the left side, or the windscreen wipers which have to be moved down to operate instead of up.
He said in one of his videos (I guess the one where he went to Geneva autoshow) that Mazda doesn't like him (that was the way he described the situation) and that's why he never reviewed a Mazda before !
It is what it is; a family car for people who are indifferent to cars. My gripe with it, and the CashCow is that the Renault diesels are filthy engines, in a recent independent test it pushed out NOx emissions in real world driving some 600% above the permitted level for Euro5.
I do not see the point in recommending diesels any more with this ban that's being imposed lately. Unless you want people to end up with a pile of metal they can't get rid of in 3 years.
1:09 A bloody sub-woofer where there should be a spare wheel? The consolation being that at least you could listen to some nice bass notes, whilst waiting hours at the side of the road for your breakdown service to replace a blown out tyre!
In last few years I keep hearing from various car mechanics - BMW and MERCEDES lowered quality a lot and they have a lots of work even on new cars (like it was in 2004-2007 with Renault Lagunas and similar). They also told me that the most reliable cars are VWs (Passats) and Renault car quality is excellent since 2009. Why is there a subwoofer instead of the spare wheel? So you can sing and dance if you have a flat tyre?

You have to pay an extra £250 for the spare wheel if you go on the website.
True, but you'll use the stereo on perhaps every journey and the spare.... Possibly never
