I have the R12 Nine T, which is the latest incarnation of the R9T and I can honestly say it’s the best bike I’ve had in 45 years of riding…..and I’ve had quite a few bikes of every variety. The Triumph would be a great choice of course, but I think you’ll find the R9T has a bit more about it. And the shaft drive is nice to have!
Hey. Really appreciate your comment. I’ve watched reviews on the R12 too and it looks great. When I ordered my Tiger I was crystal clear it was the bike for me and I absolutely love it. I’m really torn the BMW and the Triumph. I’m going to test ride them both and go from there. Cheers
I almost pulled the trigger on a 2023 BMW R Nine T 100 year’s edition recently. And after many hours, days of research I decided not to go with the R Nine T. Instead I have laid a deposit on a Triumph Rocket 3 Storm r. The 2023 100 year edition R Nine T was very expensive with all the OPTIONS 719 accessories fitted 19000 EUR and that’s the Achilles heel with most BMW’s when you spec them up the price soars! I felt it was not a 19000EUR motorcycle. The other thing that troubled me was battery replacement (it’s under the fuel tank), the rear seat /cowl is held on with a 6mm hex screw and it’s a bit of a reach to the handle bars. Although the Rocket 3 is also a reach to the handle bars. Pier City Cycles is a great channel for the DIY enthusiast with regard to the R Nine T. The R Nine T I viewed had crash protection bars fitted Wunderlich which are a must for the cylinders. I think both the Triumph and BWW look fantastic perhaps the BMW just edges it? SW France
I’d say give them both a spin. The BMW may have more creature comforts like adjustable suspension, that said the Speed Twin has good suspension, even though they’re not adjustable (pre-2025). Good luck! For reference I have the 2024 ST1200 and I absolutely love it.
@@ashwinoashwin I don’t really notice it. I did make sure I adjusted the angle of the brake and clutch levers so I minimize a handful of throttle. I know about the throttle issue of previous models, but I have not notice it on mine. Just for reference I have stuck with “RAIN” mode for about a month, just to get the feel of the throttle. I have now “graduated” to “ROAD” and will likely graduate to “SPORT” mode once spring and summer set in. I believe that the snatchy throttle is mostly to do with the “Road” and “Sport” modes.
the other reason you may want to go with the Triumph is the fact that the rear suspension is visible whereas the BMW has a hidden mono-shock in the rear. I just prefer the look of the visible rear suspension as well. I have the Ogio Stealth soft saddle bags and at first I thought the suspension would get in the way, but they are fine. They actually keep the bags stable. Just have to make sure I put 3M tape on contact areas to avoid rub marks.

Thanks. The fact you’re an ST owner helps.
That’s the kind of input I’m looking for.
I’m not sure I love the boxer engine, it’s sound etc. cheers
Hi ! Did you face the snatchy throttle issue on your st 1200 ?
