IMO the more you dig in to their discography it helps understand the tone/perspective of the singer/writer (Aaron). It seems to me based on interviews over the years (I've only listened to a few) that he's not particularly well-studied in regards to the Bible, though he is obviously somewhat familiar with various biblical stories and draws from them. And it seems he projects some of those biblical stories into either his personal life-context or creates some kind of story that borrows elements from them. His journey also seems to have fluctuated...at one point (around the 'Catch for Us the Foxes' album release) he seemed to be getting more into a more traditional protestant mindset with things, but then I think that over the years his various skepticisms and possibly his political/social views had him be a little bit more detached/free-spirited with his beliefs/practices. Though I don't know where he's at currently. ANYWAY, this song set seems to be a good representation of his non-committal/confused nature about spiritual things...like being impacted by these stories of moses yet in the same breath having doubt that the God of the BIble is the true God because of his violent "genocidal" behavior. On the track before "Red Cow" (which is "Mexican War Streets") he writes "I'd like to meet the person who said the words we print in red"...so Red Cow kind of continues some of that thought of being unsure about what scripture is truly holy/inspired. That being said, these 2 songs are some of my favorite mwY songs! I love the imagery of him debating satan. Glad you did another mwY reaction.
I'd be totally happy if you just did a bunch of reacting to different mewithoutYou songs
And Nice and Blue part 2 by mewithoutYou!!!! Beautiful Christian references
I highly suggest reacting to Rainbow Signs by mewithoutYou, and/or my personal favorite Seven Sisters.
