That 3 screen Darius variant looks too cool to pass up. It's brutal though and desperately needs a quick save/load just to learn. God help you if you go for a 1cc.
that sound clip of "DARAIUS CHEW!" will haunt my dreams lol Burning Force looks really pretty fun. I always find these pseudo-3D rail shooters very charming. Great video Etrem, I've really been enjoying your dives into the Arcade Archives
I was always wondered why the Darius collection didn’t include the 3 screen version of Darius 2. It was weird because I think one of the descriptions mentioned it.
Doing great work covering the Arcade Archive releases; something that I don't think anyone else is doing. Keep up the excellent work, I will certainly keep tuning back in!
Yep, that 3 screen Darius 2 is harder.Cool to have as a part of my collection as a historical curiosity but the 2 screen is already hard enough for me and is easier to see too! Great reviews again.Looking forward to Daioh and whatever's next.
A double episode! I don’t care what the Japanese guy says, it’ll always be “Dare - ē - us” to me. Still cracked up every time he was edited into the video though! Bring on Trouble Witches! Also dying to know about Daioh, thank you for all your hard work!
I have the Darius collection on Switch and they are some of the most challenging SHMUPS in my opinion. Also, I never knew that Burning Force started as an arcade game. I have the Genesis cart and I preferred it over Space Harrier.
U.S. arcade version censors the main character by putting her in pants😤👎. All the anime-inspired promo art + the Japanese version (also included in the Hamster port here) depicts her in her one-piece outfit 😎👍
Good stuff! I've yet to properly play any Darius game, though I have the PS4 version of G-Darius on my shelf waiting to be played :) Looking forward to the next episode!
I actually have that version and it's definitely based on the 2-screen version with no options for the 3-screened one iirc. SegaRetro is down atm so the manual scan isn't available and I don't wanna dig it out 'cause it's buried under a ton of PSX shmups lol It does have neat (if wonky) realtime scaling though, which makes it pretty unique.
Funnily enough Playing Sagaia aka Darius II on an actual 3 screen arcade setup feels completely different. Not only do you not have the letterbox feel but it genuinely feels larger. It's hard to put it into words. Gaiden IS better though.
I can't imagine how miserable it would have been to play a triple-screened game on PS2. 4:3 aspect would have made things pretty much literally impossible to see.
At this point I've given up on even trying to pronounce "Darius" properly. I know what it's supposed to be., but my brain insists on making me say it wrong every damn time.
Hah.. None of that from this quarter. I might not be able to say it correctly, but I do love the _Darius_ series of games, even though I'm pretty bad at them. @@StudioMudprints
Arcade Burning Force is insanely hard and downright unfair. Sure it looks and sounds better than Genesis port but in this case I do perfer the home version due to the quality of life improvements. I feel the same way about Gradius III. SNES port blows the arcade original out of the water which is pretty much unplayable to a casual shmup player.
Sure, but I'm just following what Hamster calls it. fwiw, "AC" is the typical abbreviation for Arcade, just as PS4 is Playstation 4. Thus, adding "Archives", we get ACA. At least it's not "Ah-kay-ah-kah" here like in Japan.
Thankfully, these videos aren't reviews or buy/avoid recommendations anymore, just info dumps, scrub-tier gameplay, and personal feelings revolving around games that happen to strike my fancy at first glance. And ACA is always one of those for me.
@@StudioMudprints Oh I definitely get it, by the way you're my favorite channel on UA-cam! I was just ranting because I'd love to purchase them physically but can't.

Love the use of the sound clip for Darius 2. I myself struggled with the proper way to pronounce for decades. 😅
I figured it'd be better to lead off with rather than the pure vitriol that just saying it had led to for a while now.
I always wanted a thing called tuna sashimi! The Darius games are pretty unique. Would love a chance to try an arcade cabinet one day.
Oh man, yes. Closest thing otherwise would be DBCS on PC with a solid stick.

A great episode as usual.
DaRyeUs Chu heheheh… Three-Screen Tuna Sashimi and Namco Super Scaler Combo!
A full-course with memes to spare.

To be fair, the JPN Megadrive version also adds pants, but good ones, IMO. It's a great cover 👌
Awesome video, and thank you .

DAH-ARIUS TWO
The music is Darius 2 gets stuck in my head sometimes. I wish the music would sound like this in the next Darius game if that would happen
nice video pal, like the look of burning force!
I loved Burning Force on the Genesis. The coin-op version seems way harder.
I got it on Megadrive and wasn't too wowed back then, but I want to go back to it again to see how it really compares.
Some fun edits in this one 👍
I am pretty sure the 3 screen version is also on the Saturn release of daraias 2 , but I can’t find it cause I have too many games flying around 😊

Isnt it the same version release in Taito Milestone 2? There is too many Darius games, im just confuse sometime! 🤣

You can say ot how you like, I don't really mind; my digs are aimed squarely at the malicious, pedantic, and insulting that inevitably meander in.

I need to get into MD Burning Force again. I imagine after getting through Area 6 Arcade, MD will be a breeze lol
SHMUPS/Shootemups/Shooters
Never been all that good at them..
I like them, but they're difficult.
Play Drainus. It's a great game thar isn't as punishing as you'd think.
I always value your opinion.
How the f**k is Arcade Archives going to abbreviated as ACA?
Should be AA.
Would make much more sense.

I hate that these are digital only...why they don't release some as a physical collection is beyond me, until then no physical=no buy.

Tremendous ports but the save/load feature of the ACA games is a fucking joke and they’re not worth trying to learn to 1cc. Great for casual play tho.
Yeah, it's not ideal.
