This looks like something I could do! I am curious about why it just doesn't start to unravel when you make that first cut. My sweater is a cable knit and I pictured having to pick up a million stitches. Is there a type of knit that you wouldn't recommend for this?

I think some sweaters would be "less risky" but I've seen a similar tutorial to this where before the first cut is made, a strip of fusible interfacing is ironed on to the back of the fabric, where you're going to cut, which stops the threads unraveling until you can fix the edges with binding, or a zip or whatever your design is going to be!
