Anyone wondering about the sleeve length, the creator said it’s 30cm by 30cm, or 50cm by 30cm if you want longer sleeves. However, lots of commenters had issues with the neckline… the creator said she was going to make a video explaining it, but apparently no video has been created since. Just FYI before you start this project!
HEY GUYS, QUICK QUESTION!! Since a lot of you are asking about the neck part what do you think about me making a simple video just showing that part of the process? Thank you so much for your support :))
+Arwa Ben eheh thank you so so much!! I'm happy that you liked it and found it easy to understand!! Paper instructions were definitely a good choice! 😘❤️
This was absolutely excellent for beginner sewer like me. I can't afford sewing lessons, so I am relying on UA-cam, and I could understand this. Have no idea why you don't have more subscribers! Happily subscribing to your channel. Thanks again!
reallifevixen thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really really happy that you were able to understand this tutorial!! I guess I have to do more videos to reach a bigger audience. But I'm really happy for your subscription! Thank you :)
You might want to mention to buy a light fabric, like challis, voile, silky prints, and similar fabrics; medium to heavy fabrics won't drape right, and you can't use a heavier fabric like brocades unless you get some structure into the garment with facings and a lining or underlayment .
Hello there! Yes, I’ve already said in the comments that this is not a tradicional kimono. But where I live, we can also call this piece a kimono and everybody relates to what it is. Thanks for your comment :)
I have watched many many of kimono DIY’s vids but literally i got nothing , Your way of explanation with paper such an excellent , god bless you , thx ❤️
I was looking around for these and they are all so cookie cutter so thought they should be simple enough to make and sure enough this video shows just that. One of the best sewing tutorials I have found on UA-cam. Very easy to understand and no confusion. Thank you! Will be subscribing.
This is just too cool! I can’t wait to try making this. I’m still very very new at sewing and a project like this makes me feel so hopeful about taking on sewing as a hobby. Thank you so much!🌺
Aww, your comment just made my day! You should definitely try doing this, I’m also a beginner exploring something I love. You should definitely pursue this if you like it 😘🥰
I stored some georgette clothes from many days and don't know what will I do with them..Now,I'll make kimonos of them! Thank you sis for sharing this! 😀
What no neck opening? If you do the circle needs to be 1/3 back & 2/3 in the front. Maybe I'm making it too hard, but that's the quick and dirty to create a neck opening
Hello! I love the tutorial, it was very helpful and easy to understand. I do have a question about the step after you cut the sleeves. To sew the edges together, do you open up the fabric and sew both edges under the sleeves separately? Or do you sew it all together while it's still folded? It seems to me we would have to open and then sew two times. In the video and tutorial though it looked like you only did it once?
Hello there! Yes, you have to unfold the fabric and sew the sleeves together, sewing only two layers of fabric and then do it whith the other sleeve. I hope I could help you :)
Measurements for the sleeves would be helpful, such as where exactly to cut. This leaves me to search out another video that better explains. The paper example was a good visual.
@The Polkadotter I made 30 x 30 cm for the sleeves. And the kimono is way too small for me ... I don't understand what I did wrong ... it's seems to be broad on you ... I really don't understand. (PS: i'm french so, sorry if my english isn't perfect ^^)
You may want to mention that this works best with an all over print, and a drapey, lightweight fabric. A one way print will not work with this method, unless you are cool with the print running different ways in the front and back.
Hi there! I've seen this video about a month ago and I came back to say thank you! I have made a kimono following your steps and I'm very happy with the end result 😊 so thanks again! 😘💙
I got some printer paper out and played until I understood each step. Can't wait to try it on some new rayon I just washed. Thank you for the tutorial!
Beautiful! When you say to "zig zag in the extremities", do you mean zig zag stitch in the fabric next to the straight seam (in order to prevent fraying?)?
Thanks for this super-simple project! I made a practice version of it out of a cotton bedsheet, which isn't as light as what you used. Two problems that I want to fix: puckers in the armpits because of the 90 degree angle (I'll try cutting a curve next time) and the neck. I can't decide whether to also cut a curve at the neck as well and try to hem that or to use a bias tape finish. What do you recommend? I'm sure I could make it work well with the kind of super light, flowy material you used, but I really want to make some that have more heft. Because my bedsheet version had a lot of extra, NOT flowy fabric in the front, I wound up folding it back, tacking the corners at the sideseams and top stitching that toward bottom of the garment, which created a lapel-looking front that I top stitched from the neck down to a certain point and then left open for pockets. It's comfortable and stylish and the pockets are handy. I just need to fix the neck and armpits next time!
Hello there! First of all, I would love to see your final result! Then, yes the armpits get a little bit strange because of the 90 degree level cut, if you make it a little curvy it will work much much better. About the neck, I never tryied making it round but I'll definitly give it a shot next time, cause the result will probably be much better too! Thank you so much for watching and spend the time writing your comment! 😘❤️

Hello! How did you hem the top of the neckline where the fabric meets? I attempted this last night and my fabric got all puckered. Are there extra snips to make? Thanks!
hey! That's a very good question, you'll need to have extra careful hemming this area cause the fabric will naturally pucker a bit! Just do it slowly, sew it by hand first if necessary and I'm sure you'll be able to make it! I'm making a fresh version of this video where I explain it better :)

Thank you, that's wonderful. I love how you use paper to show us how it's done. One question: How much fabric do I need for a size 14? I think you're a couple of sizes smaller than me.
Hello there! You could use this measurements or add like 2-3 cms to the initial measurements, I think it would work just fine! :)
good one, but how can i know which side of fabric surface to be fold (interface)?
+Qistina Aziz hey! This fabric is double faced so there's no problem here. But usually you just fold it leaving the reverse side in - patterned side out. Hope I could help you! 😘❤️
I loved ur explaination with paper
😍😍😘😘😘😘
Aww! Thank you so much!! I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😘❤️
Impeccable su explicación... muchas gracias...
Thank you for the tutorial. How do I make the sleeves longer?
Cut your fabric wider, instead of 1.2m make it 1.6m & cut the sleeves say 50cm x 30cm.
I wouldn’t say better! Thank you 😘
Lovely video, thank you! What fabric would you suggest?
Hello there! Thank you so much dear! I would suggest something really light and not stretchy. 😘❤️
Would it be better to make that kind of print on a fabric or just buy a printed fabric if i wanna open a clothing shop? Pls and thanks someone answer me
Hey! You can always print on a fabric and make a custom fabric but these days you have amazing fabrics with beautiful patterns for you to choose. It’s really up to you. Hope I could help 😘
Fast and easy to follow, wonderful👍 I made my own today😉
Ohhh so happy to read that!! 😘❤️
Very pretty I love it. I can wait until I can make one thank you
Thank you for your kind words! 😘
When you cut out the sleeves, did you sew all layers or just top 2
Just the top 2, yes! :)
Thank you!!!!!!! I live in these during Summer, now I can make em myself!!
YAAASS!! Me too! So happy you liked it :)
Thank Youu for this! trying it right away.
please what did you do to the neck part?
Hey there! The neck part is a little bit tricky, but you just do it the same way as the rest of the hemming. Just need to have extra care holding the fabric 😘❤️
How do you know how much to cut for sleeves?
How many meters or yards do one need to a similar one .? Thanks
Finally, a brilliant explanation! Thank you so much 😊
