In various ayaat of the Qur'an Allah azza wa Jalla commands the men to do ihsan ( be extra nice) and serve the parents. It's difficult if not impossible for a man to do this without the help and co operation of his wife. Moreover islamically it's a wife's responsibility to support her husband in every way possible, help him to fulfill his duties set by Allah regarding his parents. Remember our goal is to attain the pleasure of Allah by fulfilling his commands.
