Thank you for this video. (I am eager for air travel to return to normal.) I'm in retirement research mode. I love how you added the visa information--it's so important, but often not mentioned in detail by UA-camrs. Panama is actually Plan B on my list for retirement. So, my special thanks for the video. When are you guys going to check out some of the 54 countries in Africa? (Or have you already done so? Please let me know.) Retirement somewhere on The Continent is my Plan A; I am currently considering several southeast and southern countries. Except for South Africa, I have not found many UA-camrs talking about retirement there.
I LOVED your video!! Yes, we need OPTIONS! Thanks for visiting Panama. How long will you be here? Yes, the Pacific is "RUDE" LOL . . . I had one Member who MOVED because the waves gave her anxiety! BEINVENIDO PANAMA!!
One of the things that I admire about Panama is how they structure benefits for the average person. If one purchases a home if it is under $120,000, this helps the majority of people. After 120k, it is still low at 1/2 of 1%, so a 200k home is still only $400 a year in taxes. Over 750K sales price, it is a higher percentage but that is more of a luxury home anyway.
Why do you believe a purchase under 120K helps the population? Just curious. Their tax structure seems to benefit foreigners with money to me. I don't see the benefit to their people...but I would be interested in learning.
@@TheYarbros I'm not coming from an expat perspective, I'm seeing this as benefitting the local Panamanian who is buying a home under this price range. I'm contrasting it with the US economy where many tax incentives seem to favor the wealthy. Many people in the countryside work in the agricultural sector. If one makes less than 350k per year in agriculture they pay no taxes. This allows subsistence farmers or people with the classic small family business to survive.
Even lower incomed Panamanians have access to low cost medical. One can go to a public medical clinic for a few dollars and have medical care. This is another benefit that helps the local Panamanian. Taxes are much higher for the local population in Costa Rica by comparison. One pay around 10% of their declared income for the public health option, so it can be a hardship for the poorer members of a society. Again, this is only contrasting Costa Rica and Panama, not other nations.
I'm very happy with being a permanent resident of Panama and I have a great appreciation to the people and government of Panama. I'm not a wealthy retiree and live quite simply here in Panama and I contribute to the extent that I am able to do so. Having my permanent residency through the Pensionado program, I am not able to work in Panama. Thus, I'm not taking a job away from any local person. So, whatever I spend in Panama, is a benefit to the country. I use the private medical system, since I didn't pay into taxes here, I don't think I should avail myself of a system that I didn't participate in. One of the reasons that the Friendly Nations program was changed was that previously it was only 5k to get permanent residency and then these people could be in competition with the citizens for jobs. So, by now having to invest 200k into real estate or in the bank, it establishes that new people have some resources in the changing world economy. As one can see with Ecuador changing their requirements, residencies are becoming more concerned with the world economy. So as time goes on it will be more expensive and there will be less opportunities.
Wow beautiful i wish you could visit David before you go.We are here going on 3 months and looking to retire here.I use to live in Malaysia and that is a good country to retire in.So many beautiful countries to see.

Hi there! Were you talking about Ecuador when you mentioned a country that requires $800 a month for temporary residency and uses the USD? If so, it has gone up to $1275 a month per person and I'm not sure for a dependent. Are you going to Boquete up north in your travels? Thanks for sharing...your filming is really great!
@@TheYarbros Yes, I believe it happened in March or thereabouts. It had been at $425 (it went down after the pandemic came, and then they tripled it. I have two sources of retirement income...SS isn't quite enough for the new minimum, but my teacher retirement is more than enough...always something, right?
You guys must be headed to Ecuador. I just came from there. I loved it. Guayaquil isn't a great place to visit, just a warning. But Quito is amazing. Spanish is BIG there. Much more than Panama. It's harder to get what you need without it. If you need a connect in Quito, I know a brother to show you around.
Y'all both are such an inspirational couple. 100 countries takes courage and patience. I'd be like, girl please this place looks nice. We don't have to try out everything :) The question I have for you is, which one of you is the Spanish expert? For us it is my wife and I'm getting my duolingo on. What do you recommend to learn Spanish quickly?
Apryl is more fluent than I am. I tend to understand live conversations better. Together we're competent lol. In regards to best language learning....I think immersion in cartoons, kids shows and music are best.
Imm gonna say no you don't NEED one but it will def make your life more convenient. There are cheap taxis everywhere and we had (3 taxi drivers) numbers as soon as we got there but had we rented a car we could have done much more.
@@DanSmith-oj2vo I like Gorgona because it's an hour outside the city...a short drive. It's in an inexpensive area and close to the beach....but it us a rather country environment. Panama City or closer to it would be the move if you prefer a "city" life. I hear that Boquete if a nice place as well.
@@TheYarbros Boquete is very nice. I’ve been there twice. It’s cooler in the mountains. I think we are going to concentrate our search in Panama City. Once we are staying there, we’ll take trips to the beach and to El Valle.
Your videos are great. I'm considering moving to Panama when I retire. How long will you guys stay in Panama? Will you visit other areas like Boquete or El Valle de Anton?
Thanks! We will likely be here for another week or so. We were considering Boquete but its rainy and pretty remote so maybe El Valle and a couple of other towns before we leave.
Just when I was settled on CR y’all got me thinking about panama. I need more info on where the food healthcare is - besides deep in the city and what the rents are in places like Gorgono. Are u going to Bocas, Chitre, Las Tablas? Volcan? I hope u will explore and share more before u leave. Btw, do y’all get more $ if I let the ads play? I tend to skip but if y’all benefit I’ll let ‘em roll Stay well!🤴🏾👸🏾🖤🙏🏽👏🏾🥰
Healthcare in CR is better but it's really good here. There is a clinic in Cordona that most expats use. Rents in Gargona...depends oceanfront costs between $800- $2500/ month nice condos run about $1200/ month. We didn't plan on hitting up Bocas. It dosent seem like our vibe w/ the lack of infrastructure and it's a long way to travel. We will def hit up some other areas before we leave and try to answer more of your questions. Appreciate you!

I have two sources of retirement income...SS isn't quite enough for the new minimum, but my teacher retirement is more than enough...always something, right?
Are you gonna say how much the rent is ?
That's major info.
You gave pluses on "the Why side". What about some minuses?
Ohh, you kniw its coming....all about balance 😁✌🏾
You guys must be headed to Ecuador. I just came from there. I loved it. Guayaquil isn't a great place to visit, just a warning. But Quito is amazing. Spanish is BIG there. Much more than Panama. It's harder to get what you need without it. If you need a connect in Quito, I know a brother to show you around.
Ohh, yeah the big Spanish test...hope we fare well.
❤ loving your videos.
Loving your attention!
Great video and thank you for sharing some invaluable information! Enjoy that beautiful ocean!
From your mouth to our hearts.... we're enjoying these waves! 🌊⛱️😄
Beautiful Country!
Gorgeous and luscious!
Yo have to visit Boquete Panama
Want to but it's too far away and traveling within the country isn't convenient...yet.
Panama 🇵🇦 is beautiful I will live in anytime
👌🏾
Great vid 💯🇵🇦🌎
Y'all both are such an inspirational couple. 100 countries takes courage and patience. I'd be like, girl please this place looks nice. We don't have to try out everything :) The question I have for you is, which one of you is the Spanish expert? For us it is my wife and I'm getting my duolingo on. What do you recommend to learn Spanish quickly?
Apryl is more fluent than I am. I tend to understand live conversations better. Together we're competent lol. In regards to best language learning....I think immersion in cartoons, kids shows and music are best.
Thank you for your video. I love Panama. Do you need a car to be comfortable in Gorgona?
Imm gonna say no you don't NEED one but it will def make your life more convenient. There are cheap taxis everywhere and we had (3 taxi drivers) numbers as soon as we got there but had we rented a car we could have done much more.
@@TheYarbros thank you. I have very poor eyesight and don’t drive. My wife does. We’ve started looking around Panama City.
Lovely thank you
Thanks, glad you could check it out! Sending you good vibes and prayers of safety and security!
Have you guys ever had bug issues here? Mosquitos? Would love to move here or Merida, but can't stand bugs 🙃
Mosquito problems in both places. More bug issues in Merida though for sure. Tropical climates come with a wide array of bugs though.
BUGS,ROACHES,MOSQUITOS AND 🐍🐍🐍🪳🕷🦗🪲🐜🐝🪰🦟🦠🪱🪱🪱...🤯🤯🤯.
I tend to skip but if y’all benefit I’ll let ‘em roll
Stay well!🤴🏾👸🏾🖤🙏🏽👏🏾🥰
Healthcare in CR is better but it's really good here.
@@TheYarbros I feel like prices are rising faster than my social security. Thank you for responding. I wanna give y’all a hug and cook ya a meal. That’s the way us old Black Ladies show Gratitude. 🙏🏽🥗🌮🌯🥙🥞🍰🍮
@@ginarivers3779 You're welcome! I do love some tasty gratitude 😋😁😇
@@TheYarbros Have you all found a Blackity Black area similar to Puerto Viejo in Panama? Or any kind of Black community?
@@ginarivers3779 There are a couple ...one is too far out for us to venture to & the other underserved community we'll be visiting soon God willing.
Excellent !
Thank you😄
I thought 🇵🇦 stopped the friendly nation's visa , is it still available?
Yes, it appears to still be available.
Is cost of living and rents cheaper than Costa Rica?
Yes it is. CR is more expensive than Panama....that shocked me.
Just found you all. What is your favorite country so far?
That's hard to say to live in Thailand, MX or Ecuador but we still have much to see.
Nice
Thanks
You should have gotten Mexican residency ( (IMHO) Back then… I been following yA’ll for a while. It is an easy residency to get.( got mine in 6 weeks) no required stay. Financial costs , relatively inexpensive.
Mexico isn't for us so it would have been a waste of time and money. Neither which we can afford to lose.
Are you guys thinking of staying? Finally found a forever spot?? Spill it!
Nah, not here, not yet. The search continues! After we set foot in 100 different countries we'll be ready to commit.
I LOVE ❤️, my country 🇵🇦
We do too!
Only negative..is Panama runs on the US dollar ? ... enjoy your visit
....that and this garbage that seems to be everywhere.
was it mandatory to wear mask at the mall
Idk, all of the locals wear their Masks even outside. We do what we see them doing regarding covid measures.

Haha I owned in this building. I love the place
It was a nice set up! Really liked our stay there.
@@TheYarbros yea nice complex. Had to sell cuz of covid. Had a loan and it just wasn’t working. Covid killed it for me :(
