Just to let everyone know, to correct myself in the video. The images of the shop etc are from a private discord not owned by Epic. Still, there are people who did do it in the main discord, just to a lesser degree, which is why Epic got rid of the job board and shop in the official discord. So just keep that in mind. And the images of the OG island in jailbroken UEFN might be unrelated to this, bad actors, to my understanding, can just upload whatever right into UEFN. Also anyone who knows the name of the software + extension etc that can do this, I know it too and I don't want anyone sharing it around here at all. I'm going to remove any comment that mentions it or alludes to it like "i know what they use" etc etc. I'm not having any of it. And of course, report "creators" doing this. Here's a guide how to do so -> dev.epicgames.com/documentation/en-us/fortnite-creative/reporting-unoriginal-promotional-assets-in-fortnite-creative
This has been a thing ever since UEFN came out, but it was kept a secret until recently. A lot of big creators were using this, but nobody will get punished so you get a sense of being left behind for not "following the trend" of robbing peoples assets. I had the most complicated systems ever imaginable copy pasted with exact same device settings as mine (some device settings that had random numbers like 0.00001295), systems that would take many years to solve, and probably billions of years to get every single settings decimal combination exactly right without having access to project files. I also got people dming me screenshots of my projects since last summer, to make me mad cause I can't do nothing about it probably. Never put a lot of effort into a map since I knew this was a thing, and now I hope nobody else does either until Epic gets off their ass and finally does something right for once. Between the Discovery being complete horse shit, and them changing stuff nobody asked for, I wouldn't be surprised if there are 2 people working on this entire game since Chapter 2 and they'll get on this by 2030.
I always knew of assets, but are you also saying that even verse code can be stolen too?, I started making as much of I could of my mechanics with verse (even when there's a device that would do the same thing easily) just to circumvent this, has it all been pointless?
@@Juno006 verse can only be stolen if someone wants to target you with malware, otherwise you can't steal verse in any other way because it's stored in a different way and it's stored on the epic servers.
This needs to get fixed asap, most creators don't like people looking behind the scenes and how stuff is made, especially if it's unique to the map, especially if Fortnite wanna soon properly compete with Roblox, it's such a basic thing to fix
UEFN when it came out was fine though a few bugs here and there, it's more the moderation/ecosystem side of things that needed more work to support it when it was released.
UEFN was released in beta. It was not really complete because it was intentionally released early by Epic so creators could give feedback, and even before launch, Epic was giving creators access to it. Of course, more time in the oven would have been more feature complete, and parts of me think the launch would have gone smoother if it was delayed. Other parts of me think that UEFN is constantly evolving, and allowing creators to use it as early as possible is the best way to dynamically evolve it with the community. But I can get where you're coming from.
LOL so people can steal ours maps and verse devices, but its still a hustle to even migrate them to new projects by our self without having to create them agan 🤣
Honestly the Creative discord is a cesspool, most of the maps people make are just copy pasted and just the same thing Also one of the featured creators is literally defending the poor quality of the featured maps, it's just gone downhill
I think what we need is not only to have moderators actually paying attention by attention to the maps being a stolen. But also some way to stop the low effort maps and get them to not trend and just trend the actual good made maps. Basic maps always get all the attention. While the hard working maps get no players. I don’t think that was the intended idea to begin with. It’s making Fortnite’s quality maps go way down the list. There’s people who spend months on a map to just be dead within a day of release.
Still can't believe this happened and this is good if Epic fixed this. But but , people with that kind of mindset will try to steal maps in someway or other so we must be aware and cautions as creators and Developers
Yeah, it's going to be difficult for Epic to patch this, if they even can by encrypting (in hindsight after the video, and a lot of comments from other people, it looks like it will not be a great solution). The only way to really deal with this for now is to report anything like this especially if it happens to you. Use the form I linked in the pinned comment, etc. And the best way to be on top of this is to keep an eye on if anyone is copying or stealing what's yours, to the best of your ability.
I didn't know about this, thank you so much for letting me know. And thank god i haven't uploaded any maps for now. I'm currently working on a zombie UEFN map similar to horde rush but with more rounds and a complicated spawning system for the monsters but i want to publish it when this issue gets fixed.
Really as long as you're not getting 50k concurrent players, people won't really see the need to steal what you make, and if so, you can report people who do. My suggestion is to keep to business as usual but keep an eye out for people who do this, rather than waiting for Epic to do something, because it could be next month, it could be 3 years from now.
Imagine working on some extremely complex/advanced materials/vfx/animations for your UEFN map and them boom some loser comes and steals it... I hope whatever Epic is doing comes soon.
I work on a (used to be) popular UEFN map with small group once I was scrolling trough the job board until my eyes popped out like a cartoon when I saw a description of my game being marketed as a "template" But thank god I was able to get a moderator to delete it. I just had to verify this was my map with screenshots.
they should allow select creators who are verified and proven to be good reliable builders based on account activity, when it was created, how many islands they have, how many times they have been flagged, etc. Start with the TRUSTED content creators. let them remove maps or submit a heavy referral to remove it. Then CCs can do videos based on reviewing and removing them. As islands and creators get flagged by the CCs you find out who the bad actors are and then the ones who dont have many flags can get verified. So the community can moderate it since epic wont.
There should still be some Epic moderation in there. "Trusted" creators, though harder to get the status, can still act maliciously. Epic still should be the final word on if an island gets removed. Trusted creators just get first priority in the report system.
