Overall: 4 Stars
Frontal: 3 Stars
Side: 5 Stars
Rollover: 4 Stars
Risk of Rollover: 18.5%
NHTSA - New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) Side Pole Test:
A small-sized adult female crash test dummy is placed in the driver's seat and is secured with a seat belt. The test vehicle, angled at 75 degrees, is then pulled sideways at 20 mph (32km/h) into a 25-cm diameter pole at the driver's seating location. This test mimics a side impact crash involving a narrow, fixed object like a utility pole or tree.
Thumbs up for the crash test dummies!

Side Pole Rating is 4 stars.
Okay, but not great.
The Combined Side Barrier and Pole Ratings are 5 stars for both the front and back passenger however.
happened to me in my 240sx, slid on ice. No airbags but walked away without a scratch. I think it depends also on how your body reacts in situations like this. Actually it looks impressive how the tiguan handled the crash compared to my nissan. Safety has come a long way
Poor 240sx
im curious to know what you have purchased instead, btw who gets hit by a pole at 20 mph @ a 75 degree angle anyway?if you think about it... its sorta of freak accident and it still pulled off 5 stars for side impact
.
Made me not want to buy this car! Crazy how far the drivers head is thrown toward the passenger side. Ouch!
