Basically played it all Sixth Form. While picking up a ton of John Martyn, Cat Stevens, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Peter Green, Neil Young, Patti Smith and the like from my dad's record player. Good times.
Some of the best lyrics ever... "I need a place, that's hidden in the deep; Where lonely angels sing you to your sleep: Though all the world is broken. I need a place where I can make my bed; A lover's lap where I can lay my head." Absolutely sublime.
@@julebells Like all great songs it paints a picture that is so authentic on every level. I think we're all searching for that lover's lap and can faintly hear the angels as we drift off.
I feel like the long haired man in the video. Everyone around me is angry, falling apart and having meltdowns and then kicking me, bringing me down blaming me and I'm watching them slowly disintegrate into the ocean of emotions.
@Careful Icarus stfu I'm not tryna start a beef, just saying that it's not vague, what he said is true, even tho I agree with you when you said that the majority of songs nowadays are also about that, but not all of them
I am 72 years old and feeling my age. What happens in this video, is what happens to me every day I wake up. The first task of the day is to get back to the mindset and mood that I need for the day. Next day I am back at it again. When I think about it....our transience and short lives are the driving force behind everything that we do. Everything. Everything that we thought was amazing....empires, amazing discoveries, religions, huge wealth, everything that we think we have "achieved" is the result of the drive to "get around" the obvious. That we are transient and short lived. The univers is amazing....and it is hugely and monolithicaly indifferent to us.
At 63, I totally understand your point of view, however I still have to see the wonderfulness of it all in the short time we are here, and really time is relevant, looking forward it's long looking back it was short but we are here and now so REALLY I feel that what we ultimately have is the present time to be and live ❤
Tim Rice-Oxley is one of the most brilliant songwriters of our time. Did you know Chris Martin wanted him in Coldplay as a pianist and Tim turned him down?
4:10 "I need a place..." The bridge is one of those rarest musical moments in life that stopped me in my tracks and transported me to another place... The devastating beauty of it is more than music. I cannot compliment the songwriter enough.
'That's hidden in the deep, where lonely angels sing you too your sleep, though all the world is broken'. So much hope in the inevitable doom. Something transcendent that is pointed towards beyond the fear of life in the meat-sack. The song blossoms at this point. I've loved it for about 12 years now.

my take on this video is that people go through life meeting and finding other, but often the connection is broken, relationships end etc. death is the only thing that is universal, everyone is gonna die some day (pay attention to the ending, everyone walking together holding their hands). A great interpretation. What is endlessly sad to me is that - I suspect - most people will concede the basic truth that ultimately we are all living under the same laws of nature and that it is a waste to wait until a crisis or certain death is upon you to begin putting into action behaviors that reflect such basic truths of the human experience. And yet....wait until such a time most people will. I also continue to struggle with the nature of God. I was raised Christian and still consider myself one. Yet the older I get, the more I wonder why the world is set up the way that it is, or more to the point, why a loving Creator would set it up in such a way. Every creature besides human beings typically meet death at the teeth of another creature trying to consume it for sustenance. I also question the very nature of free will as described in religion. Is it truly freedom if you can never achieve happiness without serving the purpose God put you on Earth for? The existence of Satan as a..

What an amazing group, .. such depth in simple melodies that for some reason...stop us all in our tracks and make us want more from the emotional side of life...
Unlike most pop music it actually features several drastic mood changes, tells a story rathern than just conveying one instance of feeling. The way it moves from forlorn to heaven-dreaming at 3:27 and then, disconcertingly, to eerie around 5:10 is special.
Thank you Keane, you understand how hard life is and how much it sucks. Keep this pain flowing in your music so people can understand what it's like to have it rough. Not everyone is loved and cared about so cherish what you have, I promise you do no want to lose it.
The 31 people who disliked this were not educated enough to understand it and its meaning. This song is one of most beautiful pieces of music i have heard!
The miseducation of society gets worse as time goes by..Boxing Day 2020 248 people have no sense of the ethereal or the genius that brought this to us. Keep the faith my friend..we will prevail
What a hauntingly romantic beautiful song...it keeps running through my head. It feels more like floating through clouds than clashing waves of the sea, but they're trying to tell some sort of story, I'm sure. I think the man either represents death or the sea itself.
Such a beautiful song. The first half filled with such sorrow and that build up towards heaven it seems. That haunting sound in the end. Makes your heart hurt listening to this song but it brings you peace at the same time if that makes sense. A sweet release
One of my all-time favourite Keane songs . This is right from their very core as a band . Kinda similar to Untitled from Hopes and Fears . Absolutely Love it !! THank you so so much Keane !!
July 2021. My brother gave this CD as a gift a month ago. I would skip past this depressed song until I allowed myself to not just hear it but listen to it. I hear it as a kind of apocalyptic sound that transforms into a sad song, which is beautiful. A lovely song
Such a beautiful sound, atmospherical in crescendo. You almost feel the wind and the power of the ocean. First part of the song is grave, deep and dark and the second brighter and full of hope. One of Keane's bests.
I need a place that's hidden in the deep where lonely angels sing you to your sleep. The modern world is broken.
I don`t usually hear this kind of music, I listen to heavy metal much more, but I know recognize a good song, and this song is awesome!!!! I love it!! I don't know how many times I've heard this song today, but I can't stop! In my opinion, a masterpiece.

Amazing video that fits to this 5:06 amazing song. I can’t express with words but it has so many layers that this track is coming back after all of this years. It has a soft nostalgia, haunting, sad and mysterious that is addictive.
SIEMPRE ESCUCHABA ESTA CANCIÓN PERO HOY ES LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE VEO EL VÍDEO, EL AMOR Y LA MUERTE NOS UNE A TODOS, ADORO ESTA BANDA.. Y ESTA CANCIÓN RELAJA.
This song literally just woke me up from nap, it was playing at the end of CSI. I was half asleep and had scramble to find my phone and Shazam it now I have something new to add to music selection🔥🎶👌
Same place I first heard it, but I kept typing in Muse thinking it was them… FYI, Muse does not make a song called “I don’t wanna be alone” lol!!! This song is beautiful. I just wish I could see that entire episode. Now I want to know what started the shooting sequence at the end…
I've just recently re-discovered the beauty of this song. Wasn't one of my favorite songs until yesterday that I appreciated better the lyrics and melody. AWESOME SONG.
This video is all a dream. If you listen to the lyrics, its him not being able to sleep at night because he's scared of growing old. Then we sleeps he stays in this constant state of worry. He doesn't want to be alone and needs someone by his side because he's scared. Then the very last line is when he wakes up.
Me recuerda a Black Rain.
I hope all my days Will be lit by your face I hope all the years Will hold tight our promises I don't wanna be old and sleep alone An empty house is not a home I don't wanna be old and feel afraid I don't wanna be old and sleep alone An empty house is not a home I don't wanna be old and feel afraid And if I need anything at all I need a place That's hidden in the deep Where lonely angels sing you to your sleep The modern world is broken I need a place Where I can make my bed A lover's lap where I can lay my head Cos now the room is spinning The day's beginning
Ronaldo Castro thanks so much for sharing the lyrics. I adore this song. Had not seen the video before, well, typing to you. The Atlantic Ocean was never lost on me, I lived in Dover. Seeing this is epic. Peace abundantly to you.
I CANNOT believe that hopes and fears is the same age as my son who sadly I lost x used to play that album on repeat x and as for 'under the Iron sea' this track is simply exquisite x I brought this from for an ex bf, (the vile piece of whatever he now is), during a happier time x This track is just out of this world, the ethereal music, the beats, The unmistakable dulcet tones of Mr Tom Chaplin x just one of my favourite bands x cheryl Fergison(Heather from Eastenders) x
Saw them again at radio City music Hall last night. My parents met in that building. My father was the best tuba player in the world. He was in the Orchestra. My mother was the soloist in the ballet...... Yes, there was a full orchestra in ballet for years, along with the Rockettes and a movie and very often comedians or juggling acts and the wonderful Ashley Miller on the Grand Organ when you walked in and when you walked out. Something incredibly magic about that space.... I know the whole building top to bottom and that amazing elevator that would raise the orchestra from the basement. The navy came to study the hydraulics when they were building there aircraft carriers. Now back to Keane..... Tremendously joyous, energetic, beautiful, and humble show last night. Those people were on their feet through the entire show except maybe the two slow numbers. 20th Anniversary of the Hope and Fears album.... Finally getting a proper audience. It was as though everyone in the building knew all the words because they didn't stop singing with Tom. You could tell the band was excited about this performance in particular they sounded perfect. Collaborating with a strong lighting presence. Also a simple, big backdrop, hand drawn collage of what appears to be older. European buildings mixed together. Simple stage set up., Drums, Tim at the piano and Keyboards, Tom running around delivering with that magnificent voice. All that being said, I was hoping to hear this song, but thought it might be a little harder to arrange live in a simple setting..... Nonetheless, no disappointments they literally played everything you wanted to hear and the bulk of that great album. I've seen them twice. I saw their little warm-up tour at the Bowery ballroom a couple years before..... the place was packed. Last night was a sellout and man did they deliver‼️ The opening band their friends from England 'everything everything'... Started the show flawlessly in spite of a small amplifier problem. The band was punchy and delivered its clever songs in order for about 35 minutes. The singer was fantastic and in great voice. Only Tom would have the balls to go on after hearing that and then take Keane soaring. Kane played about two hours and they appeared to be enjoying every minute of it. Even the bass player climbed stage right up a few layers with the additional curtain boxes where very often the Rockettes and the ballet would extend their wooden soldiers routine Up toward the balcony. For me a very wonderful night. They do a great job keeping the music hall Clean, in shape and absolutely art deco timeless. My father always marveled at the sound. Similar to Carnegie Hall he would say. The band crew did a great job and the guys running the sound in the lights were spot on with everything the mix and the sound was fabulous.... Bravo Keane. So good to see you in great form, humble, focused now let's get those new songs rolling..... If you haven't seen this band live, you're in for a treat. I'm a considerable guitar player and I didn't miss any at all last night. Imagine that,.....zero guitars in this age and nailing it.....

The miseducation of society gets worse as time goes by..Boxing Day 2020 248 people have no sense of the ethereal or the genius that brought this to us. Keep the faith my friend..we will prevail
Totally agree with your comment. Well said. They don't know what real music is.
What a hauntingly romantic beautiful song...it keeps running through my head. It feels more like floating through clouds than clashing waves of the sea, but they're trying to tell some sort of story, I'm sure. I think the man either represents death or the sea itself.
yep
It's an iconic landmark in music a most important, excellent album
I just can not. This is one of the most amazing songs my ears have ever heard. HEAVEN ❤❤❤❤❤
Such a beautiful song. The first half filled with such sorrow and that build up towards heaven it seems. That haunting sound in the end. Makes your heart hurt listening to this song but it brings you peace at the same time if that makes sense. A sweet release
whoever put this song into the edexcel mt listening exam, bless. I will thank you until the end of time for this stunning gift.
just found out the album was released exactly 18 years ago from today, how magical
Hauntingly beautiful and very relatable.
Amen.
At 50 this song makes me forget n feel safe from the madness we've become in the world.
We have to do better as people to eachother.
God bless you all
One of my all-time favourite Keane songs . This is right from their very core as a band . Kinda similar to Untitled from Hopes and Fears . Absolutely Love it !! THank you so so much Keane !!
I just love keane.
They mean so much to me..
July 2021. My brother gave this CD as a gift a month ago. I would skip past this depressed song until I allowed myself to not just hear it but listen to it. I hear it as a kind of apocalyptic sound that transforms into a sad song, which is beautiful. A lovely song
I love this song. It's so beautiful that makes me cry, and it means so much to me. It's how I feel.
so I'm not the only one.
+Abi Garcia It is beautiful - very delicate and sensitive.
I really love all Keane's albums
Most underrated song ever. Bloody amazing!@! Give me goose bumps whenever I hear it
Such a beautiful sound, atmospherical in crescendo. You almost feel the wind and the power of the ocean. First part of the song is grave, deep and dark and the second brighter and full of hope. One of Keane's bests.
most underrated song ever from Keane
I need a place that's hidden in the deep where lonely angels sing you to your sleep. The modern world is broken.
I don`t usually hear this kind of music, I listen to heavy metal much more, but I know recognize a good song, and this song is awesome!!!! I love it!! I don't know how many times I've heard this song today, but I can't stop! In my opinion, a masterpiece.
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard! ♥
The lyrycs completely pass on love and philosophy; and the music are made to make think, itś clearly to hear and to see! Hope you understand!
Hermosa😍🌟
Powerful lyrics and haunting music. Still a masterpiece after all these years xxx
Master piece....!!! Majestic!!! This band is of another galaxy...

Amazing video that fits to this 5:06 amazing song. I can’t express with words but it has so many layers that this track is coming back after all of this years. It has a soft nostalgia, haunting, sad and mysterious that is addictive.
Goosebumps everytime I listen to this song...
Uno de los mejores temas de Keane!! Se me estalla el corazón
De acuerdo.
❤
hisgirlfriend.his kid self.his mother.his father.his schoolmates.his teenage mates.
his memories.
his life.
wow!!
Actually I read somewhere, I think it was on their website, that the three teenagers at the end represent the band.
Temon de aquéllos...
SIEMPRE ESCUCHABA ESTA CANCIÓN PERO HOY ES LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE VEO EL VÍDEO, EL AMOR Y LA MUERTE NOS UNE A TODOS, ADORO ESTA BANDA.. Y ESTA CANCIÓN RELAJA.
Keane is therapy for the soul, they have music for every moment of our life ❤
I really love this song! I got to remember it after almost five years since I've last heard it. It's just wow... I LOVE IT!
Thanks CSI to let me discover this true masterpiece...it's one of my favourite songs from so long time ago until now
This song literally just woke me up from nap, it was playing at the end of CSI.
@@playtimewithsorrow9374 It was a CSI Miami episode about a corrupted cop, but I don't remember what episode specifically :)
Nope, it was a CSI new York episode, S3 E8, called "consequences". The theme starts when they show the corrupted cop's flashbacks
I've just recently re-discovered the beauty of this song. Wasn't one of my favorite songs until yesterday that I appreciated better the lyrics and melody. AWESOME SONG.
They are just brilliant.. . :-)
This video is all a dream. If you listen to the lyrics, its him not being able to sleep at night because he's scared of growing old. Then we sleeps he stays in this constant state of worry. He doesn't want to be alone and needs someone by his side because he's scared. Then the very last line is when he wakes up.
+mariya gee not, its not a sleep or dream c:
Si es un sueño me gustaría despertar en los brazos de TOM.!!!
Simply stunning in every way! I am blown away by everything about this song.Brilliant!
Beautiful haunting piece of music...a talented band who still have much to say - keep listening...
Very exciting!!!!!❤❤❤
Hauntily beautiful melody.
The whole album is wonderful 🌊🌊🌊🌊
Me recuerda a Black Rain.
Realmente... Uma pena e decepção com Keane, Coldplay, Death Cab For Cutie, etc...
I hope all my days
Will be lit by your face
I hope all the years
Will hold tight our promises
I don't wanna be old and sleep alone
An empty house is not a home
I don't wanna be old and feel afraid
I don't wanna be old and sleep alone
An empty house is not a home
I don't wanna be old and feel afraid
And if I need anything at all
I need a place
That's hidden in the deep
Where lonely angels sing you to your sleep
The modern world is broken
I need a place
Where I can make my bed
A lover's lap where
I can lay my head
Cos now the room is spinning
The day's beginning
Though all the world is broken* is the correct lyrics.
Ronaldo Castro thanks so much for sharing the lyrics. I adore this song. Had not seen the video before, well, typing to you. The Atlantic Ocean was never lost on me, I lived in Dover. Seeing this is epic.
Peace abundantly to you.
Ronaldo Castro beautyful song
Muchas gracias 🤩👍🎶🤯
An empty house is not a home... that's why I'm (super)tramp since 16 years.
“Don’t wanna be old.” 🔵
Haunting....with an extremely heartfelt tone..this song sends chills down my back
these chaps are somethin
Where lonely Angels sing you to your sleep. Just brilliant!
My dad used to sing part of this song to me every night. I miss that.
Hauntingly beautiful !!!
My favorite Keane song. Wish they would do more like this. Just GREAT!!!! Outstanding video as well.
I CANNOT believe that hopes and fears is the same age as my son who sadly I lost x used to play that album on repeat x and as for 'under the Iron sea' this track is simply exquisite x I brought this from for an ex bf, (the vile piece of whatever he now is), during a happier time x
This track is just out of this world, the ethereal music, the beats, The unmistakable dulcet tones of Mr Tom Chaplin x just one of my favourite bands x cheryl Fergison(Heather from Eastenders) x
Tim's love of Radiohead definitely comes out in this song. I LOVE Keane and Radiohead!!!
Death, Destruction and Despair are following him everywhere he goes. Amazing.
By far one of their best songs
Last night was a sellout and man did they deliver‼️
The opening band their friends from England 'everything everything'...
Still beautiful 8 years later.
God i miss them......
Sabiduría 10 ******* music ****❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ temazo video ******
It catches me everytime I hear it. Stunning. Love it.
Nine years later, I'm still mesmerized by the song
Keane is the percfect combination between lyrics and music. !!! Luve IT
