Turtles are amazing pets. Sure they have their personality and they have things they dislike, but that doesn't mean they don't love their owners. I think they are also more hygienic than lets say a cat or a dog.However male red ears after reaching puberty can be really annoying for females. Mine became a real sexual harasser, constantly shadowing my female during winter and spring. And during the summer they can only coexist in the pond, in the tank the female would make her revenge. However I've seen that when my female was hatching and became really crazy trying to escape every time, he looked after her, sometimes went out to the shore and shepherded her back to water, and he becomes very depressed when they are separated. Its a difficult relationship.
I have 2 RES and they've been with me since I was small xD (And ever since Im old enough to take care of them, I've been taking care of them) and they can be rlly close with you, cause mine likes to approach and usually she will reach for my leg and ask for attention. (Mine was kept on a tank with water just enough, and usually I change their water every day and so that's where they usually came out on the basking spot we have)
I rescued a red eared slider from a friend who kept it in a 1/4 gallon Tupperware container he was about 1” he’s now in a 20 gallon with plenty of shrimp and snacks
So true I have a 3 inch slider and 3 inch eastern painter in a 40B with a fx4 the fx4 barely keeps up I still do weekly water changes but there worth it

We've been through 4 different filters but I'm not sure which one is the best to use for her or how many to use at once. Her set up is horrible but I have what I the former caretaker gave me. We are in the process of building her a new basking area, the dock she came with is too small. If you see these comments I'd like to know how to use the filters like you have and what size tank should my turtle actually have. I know mine is too small right now and I want to buy the right size. I have a video on it...sometimes they need to be trimmed. you can try small feeder fish to see if his hunting comes back. I have a video on how my lazy turtles act to feeder fish also!

What is the brand of filter with the UV cleaner? Currently using the FX6 on a 80gal for one 2yr old Painted. Looks like after seeing this video I'll have to upgrade. LOL!! I was shocked at how intelligent and interactive a turtle could be. Watched a youtube regarding newer studies where most turtle vocals are below humans range of hearing, turns out some species do take care of their hatchlings and have calls for food, warnings ect... Its so true!! I have a male turtle myself and I’ve had him for about 7 years and he is soo interactive. When ever I pass by his aquarium he keeps following me around looking for attention and food. If I let him out, he loves walking around and sometimes actually following me around the house just to be close to people. He absolutelly adores slippers and colorfull items, I was really shocked to find out that they could be so social.
Mine sleeps under water.... We rescued her from the garbage...yes..someone threw her away. She is now in a 125 with a huge condo above tank... We love her.

When I was a kid, my Aunt sent me one of those baby turtles IN THE MAIL from San Francisco. Poor thing it had its shell painted with a San Francisco motif. It came with that poor plastic island with water. Ugh looking back it was just SO sad. We’re talking the 70’s so not instructions much like hermit crabs now.
people say fish aren't interactive too but a lot of them you can interact and train with as well, especially goldfish and bettas. i've also had a suckerfish i had trained at one point, he'd come up to the glass where you wanted for a treat
Really neat Turtle my friend!! Turtles can absolutely be personable and have a different personalities than each other. I have managed to successfully house two male turtles in my 75 gallon aquarium for almost 18 years. However, one is a Southern Painted Turtle, and one is a Ouachita Map Turtle. One is 5 inches and the other is 6 inches. Both very communal type turtles and very chill. Red ears can tend to show more aggression when feeding, and they can get much bigger than Map turtles and Southern Painted, which can lead to territorial behavior if you don’t have enough space. I love the red eared slider! Grew up catching them at my parents house in our large creeks in the area. I’ve kept them my whole childhood and used to raise the hatchlings for a bit and let them back to creeks where we lived.
I just watched your turtle stuck shed video & led me to question if box turtles can also have issues with stuck shed? If so, what's the proper way to help them? My mother rescued a baby from her little dog's mouth about 5 years ago. It had a cracked shell (that healed but healed with a ridge), so she brought it inside to recuperate even though she had no knowledge of how to care for them. It was about 2 inches in diameter then & is only about 4 inches now. It's shell is misshapened, not having much of a dome & with the outside ridge growing/curling upwards. Imagine a Sombrero with the brim bent upwards on the edges. Could stuck shed be the cause of its seeming lack of growth & the misshapen shell? My mother has meant well & researched all she could on proper diet & habitation but there's not a lot of information concerning box turtles.
Does the turtle have UVB? I don’t keep any turtles so take this with a grain of salt, but from what little I know, shell deformities can be caused by a lack of UVB.
Amazing! I have always enjoyed the box turtles that come around my flower beds every now and then. When we see them, we’ll put out fresh veggies for them
Looks like you need something easier for the turtle to get out . She wants out and seems to have an issue of staying up and doesn't know how to get out . I have no idea though that's just me . It depends on how often you want to clean it. I have 3 in a 100gallon tank for 5 turtles. I clean it twice a year.

I use 2 Fluval Canister Filter, FX6 Filter (400 Gal) for my 100 gallon tank

I havent worked with those, normally you can see small air bubbles under the shell when they ae in the water.
