Dan biggar is second to Owen Farrell in drop goals yet he can be dangerous in a drop goal clinch, I wish our Welsh brothers good luck in the next Six nations/World cup

Just wondering if they took the penalty quickly at the end could they have got a last sneaky try...

Fact: Ireland didn't lose by 1 2 3 4 or 5 but by 7. That's not a close result. Fact: Wales found how to beat Ireland and did it. Fact: Ireland won the championship and deserved it for being the most consistently best team. Fact: Wayne Barnes is a good ref but frustrated both Ireland and Wales in the game. Wales understood him better and complied with everything he wanted. Ireland failed at this important part of the game. Results speak for themselves. Lets all let it go and lets all enjoy the world cup.

At the end...look at the player in the white and red scrum cap. He's working to intentionally collapse the maul. Maul collapses while player with the ball is underneath too many bodies to release, then Wales get the penalty. That should have been another penalty try to Ireland.

The Irish held on to the ball when they should have used it when me maul stopped moving. It was awarded Wales ball at the scrum (not a penalty). New to rugby ?

sjr sjr Yes but the maul collapsed originally due to the Welsh player pulling the side down. You are right in saying that it is an infringement not to release the ball from a maul however the original infringement that took place involved the Maul being illegally brought down. You can clearly see the player in the white and red scrum cap pulling the side down - he's not working to drive against the maul but deliberately collapsing it. The fact that the Maul collapsed on the ball carrier as well meant that Ireland couldn't get the ball out - a scrum was consequently awarded to Wales (forgot about that). There is a clear original infringement that takes place, which the ref unfortunately couldn't spot from his lower angle- that's why he's saying to Paul O'Connell "There's nothing clear". The maul was destined to go over the line before being illegally collapsed, should have been another penalty try. And God knows why he gave Wales a penalty for offside after Ireland completely obliterated their scrum. Even the Welsh commentators couldn't understand the call. I'm tired of all this "interpretation of the rules" BS, all refs need to be clear and consistent with each other. Players shouldn't have to change their style of play to suit a ref's "interpretation".

If reaching for the ball carrier is the same as collapsing a mail then yes, he was

Ultimately ireland didn't play well! And Wales deserved the win! Ireland are relying too much as a team on other teams making mistakes! They haven't scored many tries this campaign and have little flair, if u want to be a truly great side U can't rely solely on brute force!

Aidan Gildroy No he wasn't ... bloody excuses! He dished out a yellow carded to Wales, couple of dodgy penalties to Ireland and a penalty try (which was fair enough) ... Ireland just weren't playing to their best that day!

There's nothing worse than fans of the losing team blaming the ref in any sport...
