Just FYI For everyone 99% of a paint job is surface prep. Sand it prime it paint it. Primer is very important if you want it to stick without chipping peeling or flaking.

Nail polish remover takes it right off, I learned the hard way with the spray paint version of this lol but this stuff is INCREDIBLE and 100% waterproof!

@@ianrobinson5521 hi ian! there are some very small nicks that i need to fix, and one stain from a hot pan i put down on the counter by accident. i'm going to repaint this weekend. i'm still thrilled with how it looks. i expected that there would be some maintenance.
I painted a yellow sink with this appliances paint. Turned out great. Now 3 months and no chipping.

We moved out of that house already but when I left 6 months ago it was ok but a few spots where someone cut something directly on the counter which is a no-no on any counter in my opinion LOL. But I would prep more next time by sanding and priming if you want a long lasting finish.

I sold that house already but the buyers loved it and paid almost full price for it! Just prepare it better then I did, sand well and give it a good coat, let it dry then another coat of needed. Hope that helps!

I would go to the hardware store and ask for the specific paint for laminate. For countertops this worked for us because it makes for a solid surface and it is shiny. Thanks Carina!
It came out great! You could probably add marbling with paint and a floodcoat of epoxy and save yall some money in the future!

Use 2 part epoxy paint: way, way stronger, they are really nasty health wise, use a full face respirator with cartridge for chemical solvents and open all the windows and doors, and to be on the safe side, a full cover Tyvek vest, I know, it's a lot of trouble, but by golly, those 2 part epoxy will get hard and glossy like glass with you polish them.
Another possibility would be to pour a mortar for counters and go full on cement, there's a lot of other possibilities there (stains, textures, etc).

I think so but I would ask the paint Dept at the store first just in case.

No bother at all 😊 the appliance paint was the best. No need for primer or topcoat. It’s an enamel paint that creates a thick shinny durable surface like a fridges surface. Hope that helps 😉
We painted our countertops with that first paint you were talking about countertop paint and I agree totally it was horrible it was sticky it never really cured right, But my question to you is do you feel it being sticky or hard to slide things on the countertop because this weekend I am going to get some epoxy appliance paint and do my countertops again thank you for your response and your kitchen looks fabulous
I'm so sorry I never got a message alert on your comment: to answer your question, not sure what you meant but I think you mean if its sticky after the appliance paint? no it was not, it was a nice shiny enamel water resistant coating. Did you sand your countertops before beginning the painting process? I have laminate countertops that I want to paint.
i did very lightly only because i already had another type of paint on there from my last attempt, but i believe the can says there's no need. Hope that helps!

Orbital sanding the counters entirely with 60 grit and then 100 grit would have created a glassier surface. I like the adhesion and quality of the rustoleum paint that was used.

So much better! Just some minor little dots here and there but nothing crazy. I still have some paint left over and I can just take a tiny paint brush and dab a bit on there but over all I’ve actually had complements! Thanks for watching Jennifer! 💕
Its me again...I'm about to jump into doing this. Im watching you as I go. I see a lot of people saying to prime first, but like you said, Rust-Oleum recommends not priming their appliance epoxy , so if you were to do it all over again would you prime anyway first??? By the way, I used your above links, and see you have the Stix primer there, so should I get that too? I'm not only doing my kitchen, but bathrooms too.
Hi Donna! Someone recommended that primer but as the can says there is no need. I actually used primer on another project and it scratched off very easily. I personally would NOT use it, I would give it 2-3 coats as needed. My counters were black so I could have done a second and maybe 3rd coat. But if yours is lighter then maybe 2. Warning: VERY STINKY! open window and wear a respirator.

So, that appliance paint would work on my laminate? I’m on a strict budget and was considering removing a section at a time and putting in IKEA cabinets. That one section has the wide sink cabinet and a short return (perfect for a corner cabinet w lazy susan) that butts up against the stove - so only two cabinets. Painting would be much cheaper. Oh my, I really want to demolish but I will probably paint. Thanks for getting back to me.

@@SuzanneWho hey Suzanne! Yeah the counters were super bad and the house was abandoned for years. Yes! The appliance paint in my opinion was the best, it left a nice hard shiny surface. Make sure you prep with sanding and bonding agent. Ask at your hardware store and they will help you get what you need. Yes...the fumes were horrible!! Fans and open the windows. It’ll be bad for a few days.

How's it holding up? Any scratches? Are you able to clean it? Scrub it? Etc?
We already sold that house but it did hold up to scrubbing and cleaning. I should have done more prep like more sanding, primer and a double coat of the appliance paint. A few nicks from one of the kids cutting something straight on the counter. That’s it! How that helps!

Thank you so much. So frustrated. Will never use the Rust-Oleum Countertop paint brand again. 3 cans down the drain. Home Depot could not mix the color codes correct. Altho the top of can looked like pewter tint we wanted when I painted my countertops n waited for them to dry they dried a different shade or tint. I see you were not pleased with their counter paint either. Is the epoxy appliance paint as strong n toxic as the counter paint? Did you have to sand before painting and did you order it directly from Rust-Oleum or a store? Thanks again.
I got it from Home Depot or Lowe’s I believe not online. I thought it would be white but it was a gray. I did sand a bit but maybe not as much as I should have and I should have used primer too. It was an enamel paint and boy it was super stinky!! I ran several fans and the windows open but still very stinky and it smelled for quite a while. Thanks for your questions and for watching Wilda!

Hi Paul we moved so I’m not sure but it was a hard thick enamel paint. If you prep better then I did between coats I don’t see the stuff going anywhere!

This was the best paint out of the the 2 I tried. It created a nice shiny shell. I would prep better next time. I would sand it first and give it a second coat. But I sold that house with those countertops at almost full asking price. The buyers loved it.

How many cans did you use in your kitchen?
Only ended up using 1 but I would use primer first. Many advise to do that. I think the counters would have been better with a good primer and more prep.
The smell, how was it and how long long it last? I want to paint an old frezer, winter here but no humidity. Can't open windows right now.

Do you think this would work on cupboard surfaces and have you tried spray painting it?
I did try it on a bathroom vanity cabinet and it looks great!!! I started out with the spray paint, we took the vanity outside, and boy it was hard getting it to look even. The can is best in my opinion especially if you’re doing it inside. Fumes are crazy! Thank for watching Tanya!

How is that food safe?

A cutting board is food safe. Just use a cutting board!

It has been a year since you made this video, how is the countertop holding up now?

I have a question on how this is holding up. I live in an old travel trailer I purchased last year. during this past year the black counter tops and the bar are showing signs of the paint chipping and the fake wood finish that is under it is showing in places. Since I'm living full time in it, I'm worried about the paint chipping off in the dough I roll out on the bar and getting into other food. With my bad back, the bar is the better height for me to do such things than the kitchen table. I thought about purchasing a pretty black counter top I saw at a big box store but worry about the weight as I have to do so I don't break the axels. I have use contact black marble paper on the inserts on the cabinet doors and with the counter tops and doors being black it did brighten it up but hesitate to use it on the counters, I do put hot things on them, have an air fryer on the small counter. This looks like a good fix for me if it will hold up, I'm pretty sure they just used an oil outside paint, I can check later as I have a tote under the trailer with the leftovers they used.
Hey Cynthia! It has chipped in spots where someone has dropped something and dragged something heavy but nothing crazy has happened to it.
@@OurClassicHome sounds like the fix I need considering the weight limits I'm forced to obey. I like the black counter top but not the chipping cause I think they used house paint from what I remember being in the storage box. They antiqued all the cabinets with it too, they painted the walls gray, the cabinets are white. I'm not finished but so far painting the outside frame black and putting the black marble contact paper inside the frame looks wonderful I get lots of compliments. Going with purple in the bedroom but leaving the cabinets white only painting over the gray for now and the trim on the cabinets in there a dark purple. All the antiquing the way they did it just looks dirty.

I didn't and it was a nice shiny shell. this paint is made for an appliance so if you can imagine the thick shiny surface of say....your fridge, for example, then you can imagine what the counters would look like. In my case it could have used another coat on top because my counters were black. But other then that it looked so good that 2 different buyers and a Realtor that came by our house loved it and one of them bought it and its my understanding still uses the counters as is!!

I think they sell it in “appliance” colors like the almond, white, and black. If not I’m sure you can order it from them directly.

Yes it does. Make sure you open all the windows and use fans. It will smell for a few days.
Can that be used on a textured frig?

What do you use for cleaning products on this type of paint for cleanup??
I use just water and a bit of dawn soap

@@donnabramante2419 Honestly, I've used everything so far. what can chip it would be hitting it by accident. I've used Windex, vinegar, and even bleach on a spot where someone laid a store receipt and it left some dye on it and it came off. My coffee area is stained and yellowish. But you can always paint over it!
Is that only color paint come in ?
Black, bisque and stainless steel.
Black, Stainless Steel, beige and what I used was white but as you can see my can was more like light gray.
I just did this, and realized humidity went up to 97% (it started to rain outside and I had the windows open for ventilation). Anyone-- will it EVER dry? I should have checked the weather but I forgot to! Tmrw will be super humid also. I do not have a dehumidifier.

OK, it did eventually dry, and I was able to do a second coat on a day that was 60% humidity. It is amazing, I love love love my "new" 24$ countertops!!!

I see way too many brush strokes, roller marks and dull spots. Maybe it was the lighting or camera angle but that would make me crazy.
It levels off and looks much better when it drys.
Is there different.color of epoxy paint?

Painting a countertop is cheap and looks cheap. If you're a landlord for section 8 housing and your typical tenants destroy the apartment repeatedly, this is probably good for that application. If you're looking to flip a house, don't expect to get your asking price.
There are SO many inexpensive alternatives to this. Lowe's, Home Depot, and Menards all sell premanufactured butcher block countertop material in various lengths for a couple hundred bucks. I installed them in my GF's house a few years ago, and they look amazing. Then we added a tile backslash, and it really pops.
She had a VERY tight budget, so she painstakingly stripped the clear oak cabinets, sanded, cleaned, primed, sanded, cleaned, painted (repeated for 2 coats). Then we did all of the work for the rest of the remodel, except for the crown moulding because I suck at those miter cuts.
All in all, there are fantastic products out there that fit budgets and look fantastic. I can only imagine the rest of the shortcuts someone will take if they're willing to paint a countertop.
It was meant as a temporary fix until we had the money for the counters at the time. I painted them because it was SO disgusting, worn out and had worn spots everywhere. I rather a painted counter then a nasty black worn down to second layer gray counter. Temporary fix.
But I do have to say: We lived in the house for 1.5 years and sold it for triple with the painted counters and all! The lady liked the counters!
