We SAVED A Declining OLD HEDGE, Satisfying Hedge Renovation

  • This old overgrown evergreen box honeysuckle (Lonicera nitida) formal hedge has been through a couple of major hedge renovations in the last few years, to try and revitalise it, after it was starting to struggle. We trimmed the sides off to start with, then last year we gave the top a hedge reduction, because of dieback and poor growth.
    Now back to it this year and its doing amazing, its almost fully recovered, it has a lot of healthy green growth, which is a great sign. It was probably a bit overgrown for hedge trimming, at the time, but we get it all neatened up.
    No hard pruning on this backyard hedge this year, so there are still a few areas which need work. This Formal hedge should thicken up nicely with regular trimming throughout the year.
    Using a single sided and double sided battery hedge trimmer for this work.

    awesome videos man, always enjoy watching these. One thing though is would be good to see you get a better camera and set a better setting for outdoors so things are over exposed. some post exposure and editing will help alot just with being able to see everything more clearly :)

      Cheers mate, yeh i only had my phone on me, always forget to bring my gopro. This is still just a hobby for me, and i'm still a novice with filming and editing 😅. The file size with the gopro pisses me off so i dont use it as often as i should.

    Why are you using two different Makita’s? I see one has an attachment for catching the trimmings but the other one doesn’t.

    • @RJLgardens
      @RJLgardens  2 місяці тому

      The single sided one only cuts one way, the hedge gets combed the same way, so sometimes you need to cut against it to stand it back up. so used a double sided. 👍
