I'm 18 and my first car and still is the alfa mito 1.6L. the insurance was quoted at around £1200 with a black box and after a year the actual price was around £800. Which turned out to be cheaper than what my friends paid for their insurance.
I’m about to turn 17 and I’ve just bought myself an Alfa Mito Quadrifoglio, managed to get an insurance quote of £1400 which is pretty crazy for what the car is. Great Vid! I’m sure a lot of people will find this very helpful. 👍

I actually bought a MiTo QV as a 26 year old as a way of saving money while I'm trying to buy a house - it costs me less than £200 a year to insure. My most recent cars before this were a Megane RS and a Mini JCW and the Alfa feels every bit as quick around town due to how low the torque comes in and how quickly the little turbo spools. It's not a perfect car by any means but for 4-6k for a decent low miles one it's a pretty ideal all rounder

@@CarsWithJB You could do a lot worse mate, Fuel economy is comfortably over 40mpg with a mix of traffic conditions, nice heated perforated italian leather seats, quick enough with a sharp throttle response in dynamic or really docile in Normal or All weather. The dash and standard infotainment are showing their age a little but compared to the stock Polo it'd be alright.
Got it for my second car had a 1.3yaris for first car n the tsport is well worth it it's a weapon on the back roads in the corners great for first year driving like me still on blackbox lol

@@ToffeePlays19 yeah there's quite alot my 1.3 was very Boaty, loose, would go flying on bumps, no confidence going into corners, I would go flying out of seats, noisy at 70mph on mway, 1. 3 has better mpg can do 60 mph in 2nd gear, longer throw in gearbox, 1.3 styling was more subtle mine was red. I loved the car despite its faults as a hoon car which I found from taking it on b Roads essentially it was great in city but not really a b road basher, nevertheless I still had fun, decently nippy. I loved the 1.3 but my t sport is much better, lower and more planted grips insane tracking beautiful. Gear shifter feels better shorter throw and more mechanical like a bolt action rifle lol, more power which isn't tooo too noticeable but it picks up more better esp when loaded with passengers(1.3 struggled when more than 3 people in the car), seats more buckety, better styling, essentially the t sport handles way better night n day difference, only two things 1. 3 has over is around 3 more mpg and you can do 60 in 2nd gear. Both great cars but the t sport is really surprising how well it does on b Roads around bends

may be a bit late on this video but a cheap fun first car i would reccommend is the MK1 VW Lupo/Seat Arosa, insanely fun cars with various engines from the 1.0l petrol to the 1.7l diesel. They are a bit small but drive brilliant and good for some cheeky b road basing which you can do due to being able to be insured on one as a first time 17 year old driver WITHOUT A BLACKBOX for £950 a year full comp

I was actually wanted to get an Alfa Romeo Mito as my second car (probably the 0.9 engine with 110HP), couldn't really find one with low mileage on it and examples that didn't pass a lot of hands in the process. In here these cars aren't considered your ordinary daily as most people put a lot of miles on them and drive them like sports car (pretty much how you should drive an Alfa if you ask me). Still nontheless it would be a sick car to own, not even just as a first car and the DNA system really is a cool thing to have on this quite cheap car.

The Mini is exactly like a go-kart for the road! Except that it's not mid-engined, RWD, doesn't have a low centre of gravity, isn't a single-seater, doesn't ride on slicks, has gears and is blatantly nothing like a go-kart. It's got wheels I guess? ☺ Swift Sport or a Fiesta Ecoboost are always good choices for this kind of car, but they've definitely been on previous lists so no complaints about these 5 from me! QV is cheap for a very simple reason- it's very difficult to crash a car that doesn't work.

Just stumbled across this on my recommended(not sure why.. I'm 48!), but great choice of cars.. I've owned a 147 alfa, and it was brilliant.. Now on a 69 plate 595 Abarth, which is awesome!! Some really great choices there.. So much better than when I learned to drive back in the day when dinosaurs were roaming the earth and wheels were square...

Cars when I passed my test those days were made of paper though so were shocking in an impact, so you'd think with extra tech and safety on board now they wouldn't be so bad... I've had a thought on new drivers and those hideous excesses, how about limiting the power for the first year to say 100-120bhp so drivers can get used to speed and how they and other drivers use the road.. If power is capped then it could bring premiums down.. There's nothing to stop a 17 year old buying a super powerful car if they have the means and have zero experience on how to control it.. I'd love a super fast car, but I'm wary of sticking it in a hedge even after 20 years + behind the wheel... Also if anyone watching your channel takes anything from this... SHOP AROUND for your insurance at renewal times.. Insurers bank on you staying with them, but show no loyalty if you do.. I saved 180 quid on my insurance and got a better deal this time around.. If any of your viewers drive an 500 abarth, Adrian Flux will give you a slight discount if they join the abarth Facebook group. :)
Damn cars are so cheap in the UK, you guys sure are lucky. Right now I'm looking at the Alfa Romeo Mito 1.3 95hp, or 1.6 120hp. Also looking at the Suzuki Swift 1.3 with 70hp (it's cheaper) or at the Golf 1.9 TDI all in the 4000-6000€ range. At least here the insurance is much cheaper. Nice video mate
I really don’t feel like blowing all of my money on a car (if I did I’d have bought a rover mini 1.0 by now, though I’ve set my own budget of 1k) but i still love all these cheap young driver videos. Goes to show how much is out there for people to get out on the road in. With the start of uni getting ever closer I do wish I’d have passed my test and got a car by now, but I’ll keep looking out for videos like these to give me ideas :)
the mito in my opinion is the best super mini to get now a days, unfortunately my budget as a 17 year old didn’t stretch as far as the QV but i own the Turismo Sport which is only 95bhp but nonetheless it’s still an amazing car, not very common either which is nice as it stands out from the common fiesta/polo/corsa, the only downfall i would say is that if it’s your first car it can be tough on your left leg as the clutch is rather heavy, but that can also be a positive as it throws you into the deep end straight away, if you’re thinking about getting one you have my word that it’ll be the best first car👍
Great video mate, finally looking to upgrade to a slightly more powerful car. I drive a vauxhall tigra right now (i know, i know..) as it was the cheapest car i could get insured on without a blackbox and it was faster than my 1.9sdi polo. That alfa looks really tempting for that price, just gotta do a few insurance quotes. Funnily enough, i did a quote on a jaguar S type the other day for fun and i could get insured on it for £1400 a year with a blackbox at 20 years old with 1 years no claims. But when i try the same thing with a golf tdi, i get quotes of £2300. Just doesn't make any sense!
The alfa really has my attention too, honestly as a car for when my girlfriend and I are living together in central it could be sick! Insurance is carnage isn’t it, honestly
I considered one, but in my experience the insurance cost was insane, way over double what I pay for my 2.4 turbo Alfa. A better choice could be either an alfa 159 or if you want rwd, a bmw 318/320 petrol or diesel. They seem to be quite cheap on insurance and pretty quick too

good question - I think the M235i just edges it for me from a personal perspective, but I've driven the GT86 and it's a really great handling car and the perfect entry level sports car - the M235i is just a nicer overall offering to me!

Yeah the DNA system is definitely a pull factor, not finding a polo or whatever with that on it!

If your clutch is still heavy, you should check it somewhere! It is not supposed to be heavy at all..

I drive a vauxhall tigra right now (i know, i know..) as it was the cheapest car i could get insured on without a blackbox and it was faster than my 1.9sdi polo. That alfa looks really tempting for that price, just gotta do a few insurance quotes.
Funnily enough, i did a quote on a jaguar S type the other day for fun and i could get insured on it for £1400 a year with a blackbox at 20 years old with 1 years no claims. But when i try the same thing with a golf tdi, i get quotes of £2300. Just doesn't make any sense!
The alfa really has my attention too, honestly as a car for when my girlfriend and I are living together in central it could be sick! Insurance is carnage isn’t it, honestly

I considered one, but in my experience the insurance cost was insane, way over double what I pay for my 2.4 turbo Alfa. A better choice could be either an alfa 159 or if you want rwd, a bmw 318/320 petrol or diesel. They seem to be quite cheap on insurance and pretty quick too

Abarths 500 are kinda known as the girly car cus they look similar to the fiat 500 compared to the more powerful ones but if I had the money for one I'd definitely take it

I’m 21 and just sold my 2016 RS3. I’m currently purchasing my first home and would like a fun weekend drivers car for under half the price of the RS3. good question - I think the M235i just edges it for me from a personal perspective, but I've driven the GT86 and it's a really great handling car and the perfect entry level sports car - the M235i is just a nicer overall offering to me!
