Maybe made in the 80's or so, we use to use one like it back in the 70's ,but the one we had rear wheel steering & didn't bend in the middle , it was also a 4X4 & had a simple four speed transmission ! Also the name of those buggies are "Rough Riders " made in England. I would love to get one of the one's I drove while I was in construction back then ! Those Lister Engines are the best ! We could work that thing hard all day & only use about 4 gallons of diesel !

My engine uses the camshaft to crank it, not the crank. I think the cam is on gears (not a chain) so runs the opposite direction. Plus I understand Lister did make clockwise and anti-clockwise versions for different applications.
Hi mate just to let you know I worked for winger for 17 years I was one of14 teen fitters as made about 200 bumpers that were shipped to Australia these were made in the 70s by Slater and England Bristol rd Gloucester U.K.

Hey, a little update to your information... I contacted Winget, gave them some numbers off the machine and one of their Guys came back to me. This is some of what he said: "The first archive book I picked up for 4/40E’s lists a number of 4/40E’s shipped to Armstrong Holland, Sydney, on the 4th Feb 1976 amongst them is serial no 778 fitted with a Lister ST2, the archives only list the first four digits of the engine no but its 6902. You think the engine was manufactured in 1975 and this unit was shipped early in 1976 from Bristol Road Gloucester so the dates are near enough. The archive does not specify that it was shipped in kit form but since Armstrong Holland specialized in building under license it could well have been." You know what, mate? I think there is a very strong possibility that I own one of the Dumpers that you made. You are very probably looking at something you manufactured in late 1975 or early 1976! The machine is off being restored, having it's tin worm removed and will get painted back to original Winget Currant Red with gloss black wheels. I'll do another video when the restoration is completed... ;-)
Mystery solved! Thanks to the Guys over at classicmachinery.net I have managed to find out that Dumpy is a Winget Four/40E Diesel Dumper (40 CWT). Also thanks to being pointed in the right direction for manufacturing date stamps, I have identified that Dumpy was made in Bolton, Lancashire around September 1975. Sadly his ID and Serial Number plates are missing but at least the mystery is solved! The Lord only knows how he made it to Australia...
I've just this week bought the same thing same lister engine, that hasn't started yet ,but as for a name or make no idea, I will be interested to see how you get ,so I can learn from you ,also the btbrakes on mine need attention so would make a good video as they are not straight forward 😀
Mate, congratulations on the purchase of the best wheelbarrow you'll ever own. You are right about the brakes, I have adjusted mine but they are still not perfect. Could do with new drums and shoes but as it is all obsolete I think it will be a mission. I'll get there at some point...

The factory it was at, someone there thought it was a JCB but it's fair to say no-one knows for certain. I'd love to find out what it is. I have found a date cast into an engine part - Sept 1975 - so I guess it was made around or after that date. Been working to mend bits of it and it's been the best powered wheelbarrow I've ever owned.
My Mother’s family all live in Brisbane - moved out in 1958. I got it wrong on the date, the ST2 was built up until 1983. My wife bought me my dumper as a 50th birthday present for £750. It’s been incredibly reliable and, coupled with a 2.5 tonne JCB mini digger,essential for managing my 10 acre plot on the Surrey/ Sussex border. A new tyre cost me £90 last year and another blew up in February, so I hung on for a mate to bring me a new wheel, till finally he made good last week, and now I realise how much time and effort I wasted using a digger to cart around bags of rubble. £40 for my mate’s wheel versus weeks of filling bags. My 10 acre plot is now 6 acres, having sold off the difference to a housebuilder (his finished house is now valued at £1.5m, so you can guess what I got!) The story is I bought a small farmhouse with a secret WW2 test site attached, accommodating 65 scientists. The buildings were big, and had deep foundations. Took me eight years to get planning permission to demolish, and afterwards leaving me with a mess of disturbed Wealden clay, rubble and topsoil. Now the job is to convert it all into a banker’s paradise. Should work - my barn is 650 years old, my fields are sprinkled with ancient oaks and we have the best weather in the UK.I regard it as both my passion and the best thing I could do with my time, given that my home’s value could range between £1m today or £2m for the paradise, making me the world’s best paid gardener and tinkerer. But I have to do it all on my own. The dumper is essential because in combo with the digger it lets me sort out clay/soil/timber/weeds and rubble on a grand scale. It is a bit irritating that dinner guests always describe the gear as ‘boy’s toys’ after you’ve spent 12 hours in the snow, or 24 hours in A&E. Anyway, I am in need of an air filter housing cap for the dumper, having lost it some 2 years ago, and I realise that I’m pushing my luck now, so yet again I was looking for parts when I came across your UA-cam. I’m beginning to think I’ll have to fit some other after-market item. (My world depends on a dozen ancient machines, upon my expertise of downloading old diagrams etc, but this blasted machine seems to exist in the twilight between monster-raving Lister stationary engines and modern industrial equipment, it defeats me.) Well, my plan was to find a picture on google of my dumper’s air filter so I could try to fabricate the cowling I vaguely remember. The best I found were the pictures of your machine. Useless to me actually, your air intake with a collar is quite different. @@robertltomlinson I have a Petter PAZ1 that started and ran with a blown big end and work out rocker shaft, so no, I don't think you can.... Though some work will make them work a lot better.

It's been restored now, have a look at Dumpy Part 3! I've also fixed up the electric start, too.
