  • This is the second Abandoned Railroad Crossing on the CSX Homestead Subdivision going South after Gold Coast RR museum which like the first, had the gates and signals removed recently. The last train to come by here was in 2016 to remove some rails cars from storage. This line was built in 1926 by Seaboard Air Line which then became Seaboard Coast Line , Seaboard Systems and finally CSX. It even connected at one point with the FEC tracks in Homestead that went to the Historic Overseas Railway in the Florida Keys and Key West. This line played a great role in the history of South Florida and its development.

Another great video of this abandoned trackage Roly. I read earlier today that they were (Florida) was thinking about running a bus line on some part of Florida's abandoned tracks. I agree with your caution in not venturing into the overgrowth, Roly-given the flora and fauna in southern Florida, fire ants are the least of your hazards! But at least Mother Nature is trying to cover the tracks and preserve them in Her own way until the powers that be decide what to do with the line (rail trail or commuter service please!).
And call me weird, but the way the lights are turned up makes them look like drones that got spiked into place!
