  • The Holden Insignia VXR (also known as the Opel Insignia OPC) may look familiar, and that’s because it is. It was last here in 2012/13 wearing an Opel badge during a short-lived stint for the European brand.
    Fast forward to today and the 2015 Holden Insignia VXR launches in Australia with the benefit of a facelift (which occurred for the Opel Insignia OPC in 2013), new features and several Holden-first safety technologies.

    That was, and still is a seriously underrated car for no reason.

      Benzinio agreed, I still wonder why they never brought the full Insignia range under Holden as it could of competed against the Camry and fill in sales of the VE/VF

    Does anybody still own these things? I've got an opportunity to buy one... it looks good and I'm considering :-) Any owners still?

      Yeah I’m looking at buying one too, remember ALL cars are unreliable to an extent, choose which one you like the best. These are seriously underpriced/underrated for the performance and the quality and size.

      @@svenhollis-lifts I ended up picking up a late model Hyundai N Fastback. I still wished I had picked this up. I think it is such a great looking and excellent car. Probably super uneconomical, but still such a great car. Hope you manage to pick one up!

    What is your thoughts on this compared to the Commodore? Do you think this will be a car that will replace the nameplate? Or do you think something else will come along?

    Nice looking car, since there is not more liberty GT could be my next car, though I do worry about reliability and resale, wonder how this would be outside of the warranty period.

    • @JulianKapa
      @JulianKapa 9 років тому +1

      Yeah, it ruins it. I always this this car is smaller than a WRX when I see the front, because the front makes it look narrow and odd.

    Why did they call it VXR? "VXR" stands for Vauxhall Racing, and that's the brand used in the UK. What happened to HSV?

    • @ReaLzEdits
      @ReaLzEdits 8 років тому

      +benanderson89 I don't think HSV will get their hands on this insignia. When the Commodore is finished they will start doing more cars like this but for now they are full speed ahead with the Commodores :)

  • @Hapkido82AUS

    So, overall the same weight, cost and fuel consumption to the SS-V then ? Albeit with an AWD advantage. Hmmm. Although, I wonder if Holden couuld fit those excellent seats to the SS models ? I also wonder if Holden would ever turbocharge the SV6. Would be an SS beating result judging by tje engine in this car id say, so it would never happen..

    Good review ,
    I'm waiting for the Insignia VXR Sports Tourer wagon with a panoramic roof. Own a 2013 Opel Insignia OPC very happy. I got it new for a bargain $40K+onroads, last one at the dealer. Great car, no complaints, heaps of usable tech. Kids love the back windows, they go all the way down. Hwy economy below 6L/100km hwy, daily drive a bit on the thirsty side 12-14L/100km but still ok. The best seats I have ever sat in, they even won an award for best ergonomic seat from the AGR group (German non-profit organization of doctors and chiropractors).
    For more power a K&N air filter + Racechip is recommended (307 KW) www.racechip.com/chiptuning/opel/insignia/insignia./opc-2-8-v6-turbo-ecotec-239kw/index.php . 0-100 5.2s (iphone app) and mid to top end very strong, a HSV 325 signature jumped ahead at the lights but could not pull away, the look on the blokes surprised face said it all. Its quick. Its won more than 50 awards in Germany & Internationally, including most reliable used car in Germany (GTÜ Used Car Report) & German institute DEKRA fewest flaws in its class, more reliable than Toyota/Lexus.
    Test drive it for yourself in VXR mode, traction off, before you comment.

    the thing is, they still think they are selling a luxury brand, just because it is made in europe it doesn't meant you can charge mercedes or bmw prices!

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  9 років тому +9

      It's not actually that expensive. As the performance pinnacle, ~$50k is on par. Mercedes-Benz or BMW pricing for a sports sedan this size would be well over $100k.

    The engine is not Australian and the haldex 4x4 system can only give it 50-50 front and rear split.
    Its still an Opel, GM has only put an Holden badge on it.
    Hate when car rewievers dont get there fact straight.

      Both wrong. The engine is built in Australia and the all-wheel drive system can deliver up to 100% of torque between the axles. Happy to correct anything else you're confused with.

      Yes your right its called Haldex albeit only Gen 4 , VW has used it since 1998. My 2015 Golf R has it and grip is endless, mind you at only 1300kg it leaves this tank in its wake.

      +Lucien Aligheri Mate you can hardly compare a purpose built sports car to a car that has 4 door and a hatchback to start with. Where do you put your golf clubs mate , on your roof. How about you line a drag race in the wet and see how you go then, it will be bye bye wog wagon lol

    • @Gr8mate13
      @Gr8mate13 8 років тому

      +Lucien Aligheri Sorry to edit because i didn't correctly spell a word correct and decided to correct it. Still don't see what you point is, you cannot be serious comparing cars like yours against a 4 door. Hows your go against other 2 door "sports cars" say the Lotus Exige S , something worth while . Cheers

    50 plus grand? And still cheaper then before?
    No wonder under Opel name it failed.
    And i dont see it making much succes under Holden name plate either.
    The failer is in the design.

    over $50k for what looks like a sporty Holden Cruze.
    I'd rather buy a base model Mercedes. Actually, I'd probably just buy a second hand Mercedes over this car.
