  • From the archives, this is an alternate take I did in the 2015 Holden Insignia VXR. I didn't upload it at the time, because I spent most of the time talking about the Commodore.
In the end, it ended up being somewhat prophetic, with VFII sales reversing the trend of declining sales.
The outcome was what we feared most.

I had a Insignia VXR for 2 years. As much as I liked it at the start that faded pretty quickly for me. As a commuter or country road driving car it was all you wanted. But for the times I wanted to give it an off the line squirt or through tight twisties, it just did not deliver. I was particularly dissapointedin the gearbox. Taking it out for a workout and using the paddles was abusive to it at best. I traded it last December for a Mk3 Focus RS. I am in my happy place again.

Good to hear you found what you loved. I appreciated the way it prodded me to do more. Having said that, I only had to live with it a week at a time.

@@LOFLYT, Fair call mate. I have had a lot of cars over the years and it took me a while to work out that I am a Hot Hatch type of guy. Still love your reviews and look forward to more in the future.

Very poor marketing killed this car, I have one the tech is great on it, adaptive headlights, AEB, adaptive cruise, the transmission is a little overactive though always changing gears and kicking down too often. RIP holden.

I can't even recall the advertising. It was crazy fun to drive and I liked the mechanical feel to it, despite being quite advanced.

@@LOFLYT I actually shopped it against the subaru liberty 5th gen, however at their was no turbo version, the CVT transmission was a turn off, and Subaru dealers are difficult to negotiate with, as my next car after the VXR i was even prepared to go the ZB VXR since thats canned I am thinking Mustang GT or some form of hot hatch I30N (if the dual clutch ever releases), Megane RS or Golf GTI.

@@LOFLYT Yeah its also on my list, though the styling especially from the rear and side views doesnt really do it for me, the 7 year warranty is a plus though.

Aussies had a choice, but their arrogance or should say ignorance killed the Holden and any possible german GM import... Ive had this Insignia VXR for 2 years and it was awesome, only sold it due to unbelievable depreciation and closure of Holden therefore servicing issues... People should have purchased more Insignias, Astras, instead of KIA and Hyundai 🤷

They should have made the Torana concept version of this with tuned turbo engine...
