The raft escape from the plane is actually plausible, and MythBusters stands behind that. It's actually the way cats and squirrels and lots of small animals survive high falls. They immediately spread themselves out as flat as possible to decrease their terminal velocity, which they reach within ten or twenty feet. So, after that initial ten or twenty feet, it doesn't matter how much farther they fall, it's all the same speed, as long as they keep their center of gravity low and don't flip over.

It sounded like you caught this, but I just wanted to point out that Temple of Doom happens chronologically BEFORE Raiders. Also you almost certainly missed this, but 'R. Webber,' the guy that booked Indy's ill-fated flight, was played by Dan Ackroyd. As for Crystal Skull, it's definitely the BLACK SHEEP of the franchise, but it's worth seeing at least once, if only for completeness' sake.

      This.
Chronology is 2, 1, 3, 4. 4 is definitely not on the same level as the trilogy, but it's not as bad as some people would like to make you think. It's still entertaining, even if it is a bit dumb at times, still worth a watch.

7:20 This goes unexplained in the movie for sure, but in the novelization, the reason for the pilots taking an indirect route to killing Indy boils down to the fact that one of them tried to approach Indy, only to watch as one of the chicken's eggs fall, intent on landing on Indy's head. Defying all sense of vulnerability, a still-sleeping Indy catches the egg flawlessly, which scares the pilot into believing they couldn't directly deal with him.

India was part of the British Empire in the 30's, that's why the British are there. Chronologically this movie takes place a few years before the first one, the movies are all pretty much episodic, in the way the Bond movies are. Soem connections, btu not really sequels.
The big guy Indy fights, who suffers the horrible death, is the same actor he fought in the first one that got into the propeller.

If you watch these films in chronological order it’s cool that the allies in the first film (western civilisation) is now the villains in Raiders
The British are trying to stamp out this primitive, gruesome evil and then the “more advanced” western civilisation in Raiders is undone by the more primitive/ancient power of the ark
And obviously the films match up with the times in terms of who the antagonist were in the film serial of the time

Some details get a little weird with this being a prequel, such as Indy's assertion in Raiders that "I don't believe in magic...a lot of superstitious hocus-pocus," when he's seen tons of magic take place in this film. The bit with the sword-wielding guys is a little odd as well, since his reaction is one of "Oh, I've done this before" when he reaches for his gun.

When you were asking about the water, there was a quick line at the beginning of the village sequence that the first thing that happened was the river drying up, so that was the released water that had been diverted from the village's river. George Lucas was going through a bitter divorce while this film was being made, which he fully acknowledges led to it being so dark and twisted (and the scene of a guy getting his heart ripped out was absolutely a metaphor for the situation). Glad to see you guys enjoyed this! A few thoughts:
    1) The Marion vs Willie issue. So, unpopular opinion here but, I actually like Willie more than most people and I actually dislike Marion more than most people lol. But maybe like and dislike isn't even the right way to look at it. I just accept that, given the characters' backgrounds they behave as they do in these situations. And to me it's kinda unfair to compare them.
Marion grew up with an archeologist father bouncing all over the world, accustomed to roughing it and fending for herself from an early age. I mean when we meet her she's running a bar in the middle of Nepal drinking grown men under the table for crying out loud. She's tough and gutsy and I get that that's appealing. And def more useful in an Indy adventure situation. But I also find her hasty, hot-tempered, vindictive and loud. The only reason her voice is not as grating as Willie's is because it's lower pitched and husky.
Everything observable about Willie, and what she herself says, shows that she's had a completely different kind of life. She's a pampered singer who probably hasn't walked more than 20 steps in the sun in years, has no hard decisions to make other than what nail polish colour to get and is accustomed to luxury and being catered to. There is nothing to suggest she has any skillset to deal with any of this or has ever had to consider anyone but herself for more than 5 minutes. Is she annoying and ridiculous? Yes! But she kinda supposed to be. And Short Round is the counter to all that.
    2) Indy 4 is enjoyable but not as "magical" as the original three. In my opinion it wasn't necessary though I understand the appeal of bringing back such a beloved character. But to me, like many other franchise reboots, it smacks of trying to recapture the vibe of a bygone era and they just don't quite hit the mark. To me the end of Indy 3 is literally a picture perfect storybook ending and it could have been left there. But by all means watch Crystal Skull and decide for yourselves.

This is also a prequel to the first movie. When the movie is starting it mentions the year is 1935 a year before Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1936. Something to keep in mind for the timeline of the story. A lot of movie critics didn't like the movie because it was so dark. When I was a kid this was my favorite movie probably because of the kid Short Round and some of the over-the-top goofy humor in some of it. I never liked Willie's character though, I think she was a little too over the top and annoying. I get that was the point but I just think she could have been dialed back a bit. Then when I got a little older the Last Crusade was my favorite but now that I've gotten more into movies and movie making I've found a new appreciation for Raiders of the Lost Ark so it might be my favorite now but I still really like the Last Crusade (it's really hard to chose a favorite tbh). Now that I'm older in Temple of Doom I think the dinner gross out scene was a bit much and wasn't really that necessary sense we get the bug scene in the catacombs under the palace, all the creepy scenes with the death cult, and the slave children scenes. There was already a lot going on in the movie. The conversations between the prime minister and Indy were great and necessary for the context of the story but I can see how the extremeness of the food could be offensive to Indian culture and cuisine. Plus that wasn't originally in the script and was added later. I remember watching a behind the scenes where they came up with the gross out dinner during production of the movie, they had already shot the bug scene and decided to add more stuff like that.

The biggest leap of suspension for disbelief to me is not magic rocks or ripping hearts. Especially since this is a prequel. Indiana invokes a chant that lights up the rocks, and yet in both ark and crusade, he's still thinks it's all hocus. I don't care if you're hardcore scully, if you experience real supernatural proof, you're going to open your mind, if not head right on to church lol.

The female role was meant not to be a carbon copy of Marion from Raiders. I think they were trying to go for more of the type of comedy actress that showed up in the action/adventure movies of the 1930's. Someone like a Carol Lombard or Jean Arthur type that could do the comedy as well as the action called for in this movie.

I mowed the lawn for the only time ever to see this film :)
When I heard that Temple of Doom was in the cinemas, I knew I had to see it at all costs!
But my dad was the only one who could drive me 10 miles to the cinema.
So - I mowed the entire lawn, which was completely unusual
    MUM: "He's pining for something"
DAD: "Yes - he never does this ever ..."
"OK son - why have you just mowed the lawn? You never do that ..."
ME: "Will you take me to see Temple of Doom?"
DAD: "Today's not a good time. I need to prepare for next week's lessons .. but next weekend? I'm sorry ..."
ME: [turns away disappointed. Sniffing back the tears ...]
He lasted less then one minute, he couldn't bear it - no lovely father ever could withstand that ...
That night, he took me and my sister to watch "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"
I came away slightly underwhelmed - it was good, but nowhere near the level of Raiders
My sister, however, was the exact opposite - she loved it to death, way more than Raiders! (she was chanting "Mola-Ram! Suda-Ram!" for the next two weeks!)
Looking back - I think it's a masterpiece. And how it didn't get a 15 rating is just a mystery given how gory some of the scenes are. My 10-year-old sister's reaction to the heart being pulled out was "whoa! COOL!" ... hehe

It is cool to see what other peoples reactions are to these movies I grew up on in the 2000's. I cant wait for the last crusade reaction.
As a fan of all the Indiana Jones films I would say you should watch the fourth film. I think the film gets a bit to much negativity because of the long gap between movies and the main plot with its supernatural elements (which isn't that much more ridiculous then peoples hearts getting ripped out and the cup of Christ). Now I also have my issues with the film but I think there are also some great moments throughout the film. I would say make your own judgement about the film before looking at others takes on the film.
But I hope you guys have a great day.

IIRC, none of the foods at the feast are actual dishes that anyone eats. And the film is seen as highly racist to the people of India. So much so that it was banned in India.
Also, since fortune cookies were an American invention, it's doubtful that Short Round ever saw any.

This is actually a prequel to Raiders because they didn't want to have the nazis be the villains again. Each movie is it's own story and don't really connect to the others. So the third movie is the best movie. I definitely think you should watch the fourth movie because although most people thing it's the black sheep of the four movies, there are some things in it that I think you will like from some things you said in this one. Just don't take it too serious from the start and just enjoy the fun parts.

Just an FYI....her daughter,Jessica looks quite a bit like her and also became an actress (when your Step Dad is Spielberg, of course she would lol!) and spent a few years on Grey's Anatomy. Anyways, the young kid playing- Short Round went on to be in - The Goonies, another S.Spielberg movie. Harrison was 40 when he made this one, and made 40 look damn good at the time lol.😛😁🎭🕌 It was funny you guys had more of a reaction to all the bugs than the snakes of the first one lol. The 4th movie is somewhat like the 1st Raiders movie, only not as good. It's fairly good.
