Gooseworx and Michael Kovach Respond to Jax Hate Drama

- So since weve just gotten episode 2 of the amazing digital circus there's been a lot of mixed feedback surrounding the episode. For the most part it's been pretty positive but there was quite alot of fuss kicked up around one character in particular, Jax. This was particularly surprising as I personally thought gooseworx and glitch had been pretty upfront in presenting his personality in the pilot but regardless still ended up causing a fuss. I'm gonna go through and give a summary of the situation then give my thoughts at the end.
#theamazingdigitalcircus #digitalcircus #amazingdigitalcircus
Why are these people just now starting to hate Jax? I already knew Jax was a horrible person, so I wasn't surprised when he was so much worse in episode 2. It's like people had an idealized image of the "hot bad boy, Jax" in their mind, and then when Jax started to legitimately be a real bad boy and not just a typical jerk then their illusion was shattered.
Thank you! From the moment I saw this man pop up on screen, I knew people would automatically try to defend his ass just because he’s ‘hot’. I can’t wait to see how much Jax’s antagonism will unfold later in the series
Yep, I think this is the cause, too. I hated Jax as a prick (But loved that they had a REAL asshole character) from the pilot. my wife and I actually had a discussion that these fans who think he's just a 'bad boi' are going to really get a wake up call from the start of the series, aren't they? Sure enough, they did.
fr, the first interaction we got from him is him tripping ragatha for no reason, idk what people expected
People may have thought, me included, he would be more mischievous, than downright. cruel.
I remember hating him in the pilot because he was so mean but because so much time passed and I wasn't really consuming tadc content in that time so I kinda just forgot how much I hated him and how mean he actually was. Then this episode came out and I was like "omg he's so mean I despise him what an asshole" XD
I love how she’s not planning on changing the character. I wanna see him exactly how she intended him to be.
Ikr? Too many shows change character personalities etc, just to please the audience.
Couldn’t agree more, like I love my mean characters against from the fandom as much as the next person but I don’t want it to be canon. I’m a weirdo not a crazy person.
Same! Let Jex be an asshole as long as she wants! I love him being this bad boy who loves chaos and destruction! If he's going to change, let it be because of character development, and not because the fans don't like that he's an asshole! I love Jex as an asshole, so as a fan, I'm happy with how he's written!
Her waffling tweets say otherwise.
Yeah, I don't get why people felt like they were blindsided with his character or hate the fact that he's just simply a jerk, it's not like the series is condoning his actions, in fact, he gets hit with karma repeatedly. I love me a good mean character because it's fun watching karma bite them in the butt, it's only when they get to be mean spirited with almost zero repercussions that I take issue, but so far he's just a fun gag character like the likes of Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck
I recall Goose tweeted he was going to do something unforgivable later in the season so it's gonna be interesting to see how much worse he can get
Yeah
hey ayy lmao :,D
Really? I wonder what it will be. The others will surely be very angry.
If someone get abstracted because of him, it will be terrible.
Wasn't Goose a gal?
yeah he's def getting someone abstracted
Jax is supremely entertaining, so he's a great character in my book.
He's not a *good* character, but this is a show about people under stress and some people become assholes when they're stressed out. It makes sense for Jax to be this way.
I can't believe so many people missed one of the clearest points of the show since the beginning. That Jax is an insane prick. I mean come on even in the pilot he steals the keys to the characters rooms, puts a centipede in ragatha's room (which is said to be one of her biggest fears), and pushes gangle next to an escalator. he was rude from the beginning.
If he pushed Gangle ON the escalator, Every 5 year-old’s worst escalator nightmares would come true.
Rude from the beginning but all of those are done in a funny way. What he does in episode 2 really isnt. And if the whole point of the character is to be a prick and nothing else, who the fuck is gonna enjoy that. Its not entertaining
tbh the problem with that first episode characterization is that 2 out of the three [the centipedes and the stealing of the keys] are mostly told to the viewer and not shown. if jax had done more vile shit to show his character off outside of saying that he did something mean and doing something kind of dickish the fanbase would have probably caught on sooner. really, its just a small misstep in his episode 1 characterization though, and episode 2 definitely was an improvement.
It is funny, and I'm tired of pretending its not.

THIS BUT W ALASTOR FROM HH
So, my thoughts on it are. The reason he seemed like less of a dick in the first episode was because, as he said "he just wants to see funny things happen to people". Since Kaufmo was causing havoc, Jax just had to sit back and watch the show. This made him come across as more reasonable and laid back since he didn't have to do anything.
In the Second episode, he was actively trying to cause chaos again, but it kept backfiring on him, and since he was being denied the chaos he enjoys, he was getting angry, like a spoiled child who doesn't get his way.
It seems, to me at least, Jax is taking full advantage of being in a world where he can indulge in destructive behavior without consequence. Most likely as a way to distance himself from the harsh reality of his current situation.
he almost reminds me of a murderhobo in tabletop games with his behavior
Jax is a troll, plain and simple. He doesn't care if people get hurt. He's just there for the reason he can be a dick.
Jevil, basically. Only, a lot tamer.
Maybe Kaufmo's death really got to him 😢
Yeah. In the first episode he was a dick, doing things for the hell of it. But he wasn't actively hostile for the most part. He'd use someone's arm as a back scratcher, roll his eyes and be sarcastic, shove someone down a hole that they were already intending to go down, a complete dick no doubt, but one that felt more like "Big red button that says 'Don't Press', why, you shouldn't have!".
But in the second episode he felt more hostile and aggressive with his actions. More Murder Hobo asshole than mischievous instigator. So, yeah, he came across as a lot more childish about the lack of chaos and shenanigans. I don't think his character has "shifted", but it definitely is more clear what he's like.

I feel like people don't understand that having a character thats a complete asshole is OKAY. Especially for shows or any public media, because it gives a lot more conflict to the story. There's nothing wrong with having a character like Jax because at the core of it all, he isn't real, and he isn't the creator.
Jax in episode 1 : Steals bedroom keys, leaves Ragatha and Pomni for dead, assaults Gangle and Kinger.
Fans : What a cool guy
Jax in Episode 2 : Hurts Pomni, insults Ragatha and Gangle, leaves Candy Kingdom for dead.
Fans : What a not cool guy
Anyways, I have a theory that Jax would take notice of Pomni's existentialism and use it to have her spill the beans on more NPCs. I doubt he's gonna stop at just violent murder.
Jax did so much worse in ep 1 so like? Bro? Whats with the hate?
@@AD_YTChannel Jax in episode 1 is someone I could argue was good deep down (he's not, it's just a misinterpretation based on general good faith in humanity) when Gangle asks about kaufmo, Jax says "he's doing great" which is a lie that COULD be interpreted as Jax protecting Gangles feelings (it's not)... Jax leaving ragatha and Pomni for dead... Pomni leaves Ragatha for dead... scared people do selfish things... Jax COULD be interpreted as good (he is not)... as for Jax having keys to everyone's room and putting centipedes in Ragatha's bed, as Jax said "you never know till its too late" He COULD have been just lying about the centipedes, it's not nice but its not as vile as actually putting centipedes in there. and having keys could be Jax's way of protecting his fellow circus crew from any invaders... (Again... this is not the case... but it could have been if that's what the creator wanted)
@@Jaredragon I mean, there is justification for his behavior in episode 2 since he just views this all as a video game, and he's not wrong, since, once the adventure ends, the npcs no longer matter (as seen with Caine snapping away GummiGoo.) The fact that people view Jax as some sort of horrible person for wanting to play the game his way just shows that people are taking things way too seriously, especially since the show makes a case of making karma bite Jax in the butt.
@@homerman76 I would argue episode 2 jax is a terrible person because of the way he treats gangle... gangle is not having fun and it's all jaxs fault... in ep 1 I could argue most of his mistreatment of gangle was harmless shoving (it's still not nice) but in episode 2, jax threatens to expose one of gangles secrets which jax has no right to do. And on top of that he shouts at her and has a gun to her head (I know the gun probably wouldn't do any damage but he's still being intimidating with it) plus gangle didn't volunteer to drive... jax made her... in episode 1 jax kinda saved her (and kinger) from abstracted kaufmo (until kaufmo wound up in the same place as them anyway but jax didn't know that would happen)
@@Jaredragon I liked him even more in episode 2. People don't seem to like violent, hateful characters for some reason, even though they can be great.
as someone who only watched the pilot very recently, and then watched it again directly before the second episode, I was really surprised to see people talking about how much his character changed. he's literally just like that lmao. I think they've got their fanon and canon mixed up.
It’s not think, they have gotten the canon and fanon mixed up, and it only took one episode for that to happen. I’ve never seen Jax as the “misunderstood character” because of how he acts nonchalantly about anything that has to do with the other characters.
I can’t see how they think he’ll change, the characters have been in the digital circus for years, if he can’t change after that much time, then I don’t think that he’s going to have character development.
He might get character development, but that going to take more time, you can’t just suddenly change in one day.
I said might because there is a very slim chance that Gooseworx would actually give Jax a character arc, because he’s suppose to be an annoying character.
I'm confused by this, too. I didn't see any difference between his behavior in the two episodes. I've seen this in other shows with a slow release schedule too, where a character has never shown any positive characteristics, and yet fans act like the writers suddenly made them a two dimensional villain and 'ruined the character' when a new episode comes out and they continue to act how they always have.
He definitely seems worse in the second episode, not that he was ever not an asshole
The idea that media should not portray assholes is so strange to me. Even stranger is the idea that people are genuinely offended that an imaginary character is mean.
It is fiction. It is not real. An asshole character is not an endorsement of asshole behavior. He exists to reveal a truth of human behavior; some people are assholes. That some people do not understand this is strange.
They likely see themselves in them, and it hurts. So they lash out.
@@cortster12 that's pretty much what happens
@@cortster12 Either that, or they have bad experiences with assholes and Jax reminds them a lot of those guys (and because he's fictional, you can't punch him in the face or something like that).
i think it's mostly the fact the character is confident. people want karmic retribution on asshole characters but at the same time are endeared by those with confidence. it causes a split of wanting to like character for endearment and wanting to hate a character for retribution. in turn they demand an artist to make the character more postively endearing or for the character to be unendearing to the point that the story treats them with karma. like some disney villians know for their confidence are given plot retribution/karma.
One thing is being an asshole, doing a mass murder genocide in the second episode is completely different. Bruh
Goose literally warned us in the beginning about jax, people are so unaware these days.
I honestly just wanted more gummigoo! Still loving it
SAME I WANT MORE GUMMIGOO
Gummigoo RIP
gooseworx saying that jax is troubled and that the show will mostly focus on the characters, also hinting at a very jax-centric episode in the future is very exciting to me. the internet these days, especially the fandom side, cant handle an antagonist just... being an antagonist, without ALSO being either hot and flirty or an uwu sad boi type. yes, he's definitely hiding something, or compensating for something with his behaviour, but hes a villain and some people went too far with headcanons and are now upset that hes acting consistently. character arcs take time, and mark my words, he's gonna get a LOT worse before he gets better, IF he gets better.
I still don’t think he’s straight up a villain. He’d probably be alienated by Ragatha or at the very least have her attention more since she’s the one to assume responsibility for stuff.
To us his actions seem really dangerous and destructive, but in actuality his actions arnt harmful. Clearly nobody in the cast can actually feel pain normally, and even actually getting hurt by an abstracted character can be reversed.
@@connorjohnson8590 I think the same !
@@connorjohnson8590 i do think Jax was a gamer before going in and as he is now he could do what ever he wants as long as he able to check the limits of this game(hell he may know where a dev room is for the circus why he has keys for everywhere if not needing to swipe one from others)
edit:also he spots the purple gator doing tricks and gets excited and wanted to get closer and knows about game physics for riding on top of trucks and maybe wanted to try to use camera angles and use Pomni's skinny arms as a temp bridge why he got upset at her
And the thing is, he never really NEEDS to get better either. With how many "redeemable jerk" character's we have these days, it's actually perfectly okay to have a little reminder that no, some people just DON'T get better. Ever. No matter how much we want them to.
I wouldn’t consider Jax an antagonist cause he’s pretty much doing the same things the others are with staying alive and staving off madness… he just does it in a horrible underhanded way. Like with the adventure, they were all trying to get the tanker back- he just decided to do it with a lot of violence explosions and death.
Well, Gooseworx *did* say that he’s going to get worse as the series continues.
Honestly, I’m intrigued to see how they build from that.

I thought it was obvious Jax is a major jerk, but still find it strangely amusing. Why the sudden love to hate him now? Besides, Jax just wanted to treat the adventure like some kind of violent video game since he believed they weren't in any real danger. It's all fake to him. Plus, he did show a little sadness when the funeral was mentioned. Maybe there is a heart, but showing that is like a weakness to him.
We are surprised by how he went from a prankster/bully to a downright masochist. It happens so fast it isn't natural. It's not even a plot twist moment it just happens.
Some weirdly interpreted him not attending the funeral as him genuinely not caring. It’s like the idea of someone who hides they’re pain by being a jerk is a foreign concept for the fandom. Which would be weird as it’s a pretty recurring trope in media.
Apparently the series creator confirmed on her online accounts that Jax is mostly there to be the troublesome jerk and ain’t interested in character development for him (akin to Nagito & Kokichi from Danganronpa). But it’s still weird how the fandom looks like they’re lacking media literacy on this department.

Micheal Kovach should not get hate for acting a character he voices so many characters like N from murder drones, Angledust from the hazbin piolet and Rocky from lackadaisey as well as many other characters from games like bendy, fnaf, poppyplaytime etc as they all have different personalities and Micheal doesn't make the script, he reads it.

It’s nice to have a character who is a genuine asshole. Not evil, just an asshole. Jax is a perfect example of what some people would absolutely do if they were in a world where their actions had no real consequences.
Were people expecting a Zuko situation where despite being the bad guy, we got to know his PoV and be sympathetic towards him even before he started his arc?
As someone who does have to admit the fanbase changed my perception on the character for a temporary amount of time, I think the hate is honestly ridiculous. Jax was and is meant to be an impulsive a-hole that likes creating chaos, harming others, and doing whatever keeps him entertained and distracted. This was hinted not only in the pilot but in posts as well. He's described of having *"no heroic qualities", "doing something unforgivable later", "being a pathetic loser with no friends", "being an impulsive d-head" and "causing a divide in the fandom".*
While no means a good person, he's still hinted to have more to him than just an impulsive and destructive loser that some of these same people don't take into account. Gooseworx has stated he has *reasons for why he does what he does and the show and other pieces of media has a small amount of hints that he does actually care about his situation and abstraction to an extent* (like his reaction to Kaufmo's funeral and Michael Kovach's response to how he would actually feel if Ragatha abstracted).
This doesn't excuse his past or future actions obviously, but it creates a more nuanced character that can go various paths. Either he learns his lesson after he commits the unforgivable OR he continues to get worse until he faces his own demise. Anyways, either of these paths would be interesting to go towards and for people expecting any character development remember this: *it is barely the second episode after all.*
Wow, I agree with exactly everything you said, and its only been 2 episodes of him, people need to stop having such high expectations for not even the main character (Pomni pretty much is).
@@shewassthere Mhm!
Why do people call him a loser? He literally successfully doomed an entire kingdom. I think that's a win for him.
@@StarBoxz A fictional kingdom that would cease to exist the moment they left it.
He is called a looser because he is constantly putting others down to make himself feel better, hides his insecurities behind a mask of indifference and I think it’s fair to say that nobody in the cast would ever spend time with him if they had a choice.
@@goatlover6312 I don't get why it's called being a loser then. Shouldn't a loser be someone who is unsuccessful in life or constantly met with failure and misfortune? It is based on the word "lose" but it often has nothing to do with actually losing when describing someone. It's probably a broad label then.
I also noticed that a lot of people started to hate him after episode 2 came out.
I think there are 2 reasons for this. First, people didn't perceive him as an asshole in the pilot. They saw a fun and teasing character. Second, a lot of people, myself included, believed that Jax would be the focus of episode 2. There was an announcement that episode 2 would be about depression, and like in the trailer we saw Jax on the ground (looking "depressed"), we had thought the episode would be about Jax's depression. We were far from what we finally got in episode 2. Even I was surprised by how despicable Jax could be.
Yet, despite that, I don't hate him. I can't hate him. I'm not excusing what he does, and the way he behaves, but I think he has insecurities. This is just my personal opinion. I don't see why we would be given a purely evil character in the main group. I think Jax doesn't like to deal with his emotions. I think he has insecurities, and puts others down to make himself feel better. He acts as if nothing affects him, and takes everything lightly, as if to forget, or not think about the fact that he has been locked for a long time against his will. Maybe it stops him from thinking too much and having an existential crisis.
I think there is a reason for his actions. I hope that after showing us how horrible he can be, he will eventually question himself and change the way he acts. I don't want to believe he stays like that until the end.
I think he has a lot of potential, that's why he's my favorite character.
And even if I'm wrong, it doesn't matter. I like him anyway, he's interesting.
(I love the way he's animated, it's very pleasant to watch)
This is what exactly how I feel. Never did I start hating him during that episode. If anything, I felt more pity, because it's very obvious that he's taking things out on others because he's incapable of handling his emotions himself
Oh, sure, he’ll become a goody pie and then I’ll go to prison for writing docs of him getting harassed by CatNap!
The people who didn’t see him as an asshole are likely bullies who don’t realize they're bullies. Happens a lot. "Oh, I was just having fun! They've just exaggerating! We're all friends here!" Stuff like that.
I hope not tbh. I really REALLY want a character who is a asshole for the sole purpuose of being a asshole, there is too many evil characters with depressing background at this point.
i was just, kinda suprised he was a little bit meaner, but i never really thought about it.
im still not thinking about it.
and i probably wont.
He literally pushed and broke the mask of the one ribbon character in the pilot, wtf did they expect from him 💀
Gooseworx said that Jax is supposed to be a hated character and everyone’s backlash against him shouldn’t be a surprise to her since she wanted him to be hated in the first place.
The problem is that people are hating on *HER* because they think she changed his personality just to annoy the fandom, and are trying to split episode 1 and episode 2 Jax when they are literally the same

In other words the community is like "I WANT JAX TO BE WHAT I WANT HIM TO BE AND NOT A NATURALLY FLOWING CHARACTER !!!" sorry but i think jax being the way he is its realistic to how he is portrayed after all they are all trying to cope with being stuck in this program and each have their own way of coping.
Ragitha = Optimism (make the best out of a bad situation.)
Jax = Cynicism (likes the chaotic nature of everything because if hes stuck in hell might as well enjoy it.)
Zooble = Apathetic (does not care much for anything.)
Gangle = Imposter syndrome. (due to the masks representing this.)
Kingler = Dissociative amnesia (most likely lost someone close and his brain switches off and on resulting in memory loss to cope)
These are all coping mechanisms and are core to all the character im starting to think the digital circus is a mental asylum using this program on patients to get them over there psychological devices believing it would cure them but if they go too far over the deep end they abstract aka lose their mind completely.
Also it gives a hint to why there characters are designed that way because the program uses the data inputted by the mental asylum staff to depict there conditions into a physical form if we look closely at each character you can see they represent each condition.
A doll that is beaten up represents ragitha being too optimistic and will allow herself to be hurt so much maybe she was suffering from domestic abuse hence why she's there.
A mischievous bunny rabbit being up to no good represents jax being too chaotic that he might have seriously hurt someone hence why he's there.
A mismatch of shapes not being able to form something of structure represents zooble feeling lost and depressed hence why she's there.
A masked person most likely suffering from multiple personality syndrome resulting in imposter syndrome hence why gangle there.
A king like person most likely suffering from the lose of someone close to him battling with the idea of ending it all hence why kinglers there.
Jax to me is never someone TO BE LOVED or sympathized.
He's the guy that you should love to HATE. That's his job. He wants you to HATE HIS GUTS. But at the same time, he entertains you while he does it.
He'll love every second of it.
But of course, Twitter or Tumblr, they love making things for their lewd imaginations or make him into something he's NOT.
My opinion of Jax actually went up in episode 2 thanks to the funeral moment, where he does the typical "prevent myself from crying by blinking and hide my true emotions by walking away from the situation" showing that while he is a huge jerk, there is a very small and hidden soft side. And gooseworks even mentioned that he's a "troubled individual"
This is only episode 2 of 8, so give him time.
And if he's truely meant to just be a jerk, at least he's an incredibly entertaining one.

What if he makes someone abstract?
Personally my own little theory is that Jax has had some kind of mental breakdown at some point, or just a general slow decline in sanity. Seeing as nothing you do seems to have long term consequences in this reality, and the NPCs aren't really people I think Jax has kind of dehumanized everyone around him. This along with the inevitable negative consequences of being in a never changing digital world means he can probably only cope by just messing with everyone around him, it's not like you can kill one of the human characters as seen with both Ragatha and Pomni being stabbed on a few occasions, along with Gangle's comedy mask that was broken in the pilot, fixed between episodes, then broken again. From what I can tell he's just as broken and insane as everyone else and is simply trying to cope. Like he said in the pilot he doesn't care about anything as long as he gets to see funny things happened to people.
A second more meta thing is that yes Jax is a terrible person, but that isn't bad writing. You can totally write a good character who is a bad person, even if they're a main character.
Yeah the people complaining confuse me. Like, you realize that's just his dynamic right? Like when he pushed Gangle over in episode 1, or how he'll run off leaving others to deal with problems while also not warning others. He is, in every sense of the word, an asshole. Sometimes people are just assholes, maybe they think it's funny, or maybe they are selfish, or, and this is my theory, based on episode 2s ending, he likely is covering up his true feelings. (Think like a school yard bully who acts like a jerk because his home life is bad)
Given the situation and what we've seen of Jax, especially at the end of episode 2, there's a lot more too him and people not to not hyper focus his bad actions. Use your eyes and study what's going on, theorize, that's half the fun of watching a show if you ask me
People when a character has to have problems to overcome to have character development
It seems people didn't like Jax turning into a tantrum throwing manchild when things didn't go his way and that killed off the Tumblr Sexyman image people had of him.
Though it was always pretty obvious he was an imature and self centered prick with how he'd just push gangle out of the way for no reason and whatnot
Exactly, and he is the youngest and most imature in the circus, wouldn't it be obvious that he was going to do that?
i never saw him as cool to begin with
Angry Twitter dwellers hate self reflections lol
I think it's freaking hilarious how just one episode after the pilot has already torn the crazy Jax fans apart, especially when it comes to the simps. I was honestly expecting this to happen immediately after watching the 2nd episode through.
The way I interpret Jax’s character is that he’s taken the approach of “nothing truly matters here so I’m just gonna do whatever I want.” In order to keep himself somewhat sane. It’s like how a lot of us play the most chaotic route in a video game since there aren’t any real consequences and no one is actually getting hurt. I doubt any of the main squad can truly die so Pomni probably wasn’t in any real danger in that way. He seems to also secretly care about the other members based off his reaction to the discussion of Kaufmos funeral at the end. I just think there’s a lot more left to learn about his character before we make judgements about how bad of a person he is.
They all developed very different coping mechanisms, Jax's seems to just be hedonistic nihilism fuelled by the knowledge that nothing he does holds any form of real long term consequence.
The stakes were high on the first episode with Kaufmo running around being an actual threat, so his dickery comes off as small annoyances in the spurt of the moment, giving off this "Trickster" vibe.
Episode 2 is an adventure where Jax gets to have full autonomy to face the situation at hand in any way he pleases, this is the result of that. This is the purest Jax in his natural element.
Thats true, there is no abstracted Kaufmo in episode 2 running around and beating up everything, and distracting people away from Jax's terrible behavior.
The asshole is in full force.

With developed brains?Dear,I think like 85% who watching this show are kids or teenagers. And they get mad when something doesnt go their way and write it on twitter, cuz kids are brutal. We saw that in Undertale,Naruto and so...Most wholesome shows get always most toxic fandom. And most toxic shows get most wholesome fandom.I know,I was in both.Thats life.
remember when the undertale fandom begged markiplier to play the game only to shit on him for not getting the perfect ending on his first playthrough?
There are adults who act like this, do not say it is just kids and teens.
i don't want to be rude, but you're supposed to put a space after every punctuation mark...
it makes it interesting as I think I saw a tweet from gooseworx that said that speculated on whether or not the fandom would shift towards the target demographic as the show goes on. Seeing as the show seemed to immediately get consumed by children who're probably used to things being "no kids allowed" (even though most of them do make themselves easier for children to stomach. Like FNAF and Poppy playtime leaning *hard* into the child audience). I will be interested in seeing how many of them stay since this show feels like it doesn't want to pull it's punches.
@@artistanthony1007 Last time i checked, Digital Circus are full of kids and teens. Adults are Minority
If you want to blame Adults so bad, please mention My Little Pony next time so your argument can be valid
This kind of situation is starting to become a trend in today's fanbases for various shows, with people building up headcanons and expectations about what a character will be like from something like a pilot alone and then get upset when that mental image gets shattered. Now I'm not sure if it's just Twitter brainrot or not but it IS pretty concerning, even more so considering how OBVIOUS it was that Jax was an asshole in the Pilot, you think the episode that ends with a small scene that has Jax showing some other emotion apart from "Grinning Dickhead" would get people excited about going in-depth with his character and seeing past the rough exterior in later episodes.. But, sadly, for some outlandish reason, no.
People totally glossed over the fact that in episode 1, he immediately joked around about Kaufmo being abstracted & one of the first things he did after Gangle found out about it was push her down for fun.
Yeah. He was still a complete asshole! I think the reason people are saying he's changed so much is because A. We didn't get as much of him in the pilot that we did in EP 2, and B. Because in the pilot, they were just in the Circus. They didn't go anywhere, so it's not like he had other NPCs to torture or a new world to plunder. In EP 2, since they went to the Candy Kingdom, so he had much more power to do whatever the hell he wanted to these new NPCs. He actually had a chance to cause more chaos, unlike in the pilot, where Kaufmo's abstraction was the main cause of the chaos and he didn't need to do all that much to see everything go to shit.
What ever happened to people simping over Jax and putting him in a high pedestal for the Tumbler man type only for the the Jax simps to unsimp for Jax and remove his Tumbler men pass away from him 😂, thankfully I never was a Jax simp/fan but I always viewed him as just average character pretty much.
In my theory on why Jax is now the way he is acting it’s because on how long he’s been in the Digital Circus World. Like, once he realized that none of this even matters and everything is just fake with NPC’s, of course he’s gonna go careless over his surroundings. From what I’ve seen is that Jax knows that the adventure ends once they reached their objective. And once he realizes that nothing even matters on what you do on the adventures, of course he wanted things to be chaotic and interesting for his own fun, it’s not like anyone of the members from the Digital Circus can die (like from how Ragatha got pierced through the chest with a spike in episode two) he didn’t really care how much damage he makes, he just wants chaos to add more spice to the adventure. But overtime, he started to get bored, hungry for more spice and chaos in the adventures that he even would sulk and be disappointed the fact that nothing went on how he anticipated. Even on Cosmos funeral, we can see that Jax already witnessed this multiple times with other characters in the circus. He lost his care due to how long and repetitive with things while being trapped into a world where nothing matters nor is it even real, the only objective is to complete adventures given by Caine.
It's pretty simple, actually. I never liked Jax as a person (I do like him as a character). In the pilot he was just a jerk. In episode 2 he wasn't just a jerk, he was straigt up cruel, specially towards Gangle. I did not like Jax very much in the pilot and after the latest episode I straight up despise him, but that's the point of the character. People (because people are straight up f*cked up) literally sexualized and fetishized Jax and I don't even know why, and now their illusion of the "hot mean skinny bunny boy" has been completely shattered, which is pretty hilarious to see.
Gooseworx: *Introduces and fleshes out a character*
Also Gooseworx: *Kills him immediately after*
AKA:finnaly some good fking story writing, with guts! Love to see it!
It really feels like the main difference between ep1 and ep2 with his portrayal is just that his antisocial behavior isn't played as much for laughs this time around, and is more explicitly aimed at Pomni instead of just kind of going on in the B plot in parallel to a bunch of characters we are also primed to find funny. Count that with the emotional investment we have in Gummigoo compared to never meeting Kaufmo and having his attitude retain the same level of active malice for people we have just been shown are real enough to be morally relevant, and the sting of the dark ramifications of his behavior is shown undeniably without any benefit of the doubt. We are a little more familiar with this place now than in ep1, and we know that it doesn't matter to Jax how real anyone is, he gets off on watching them suffer, and that's really fucked up.
NGL, Jax is my favorite main character. Goat VA, character design is cool, and his snark remarks are just great. He's not a hateable A hole, he's a fun A hole
Of course Gooseworx ain't gonna give a shxt, that's why I love her as she knows there will be hate but couldn't give a shxt, unlike Viv who will be fixated on hate and create more trouble than was done already rather than just accept it will happen and move on.
Yeah, that's one of her flaws. Viv needs to take a break from social media.
"I'm so unbelievably disappointed right now..."
- Jax
The one thing I’m going to say with all this is I only just recently learned about this show. I watched episode 1 and then immediately watched episode 2. Jax seemed pretty much the exact same.
I thought the reason everyone liked him so much was because he's a rude asshole with hints to a potential emotional backstory, because that's why I liked him so much. So imagine my suprise when I finish watching episode 2, very happy that he was an asshole with hints to a potential emotional backstory, and seeing hate for him. I had no idea what was going on
when people see their crush do bad things
I think his prickness is what makes him an entertaining character xD
Yarss
I think what really changed wasn't Jax's character, but rather the context of the episodes. In Episode 1, the Gloinks adventure was an "In House Adventure," meaning that it was just taking place in the circus. However, in the second episode, the adventure was in an entire different world and the situation was way more tense than episode one was. It went from pests in the circus to an entire kingdom and Mad Max situation. Because there seems to be more of a story behind the world of the Candy Canyon Kingdom than in the Circus, it felt like Jax had a lot more to work with being a prick.
It's not a different world. It was a game made by Caine, with AI made by Caine. When the team left what happened next wasn't mass death caused by Jax with lasting consquences, but instead the game just ended.
People say he’s just a plain jerk, and he is. BUT, if you pay attention to detail, you can actually see how he actually lets some of his real emotions slip out sometimes. For example, when they mentioned kaufmo’s funeral at the end of the episode, you can see him looking sad for a split second and immediately changing the emotion to appear as anger. So I personally think he’s only rude as a coping mechanism or as a way to protect himself from getting too close to anyone. You also have to keep in mind that he’s the youngest of the characters. In the first episode, he says: “We’ve been stuck here for years.” Implying that not only everyone else has been stuck here for years, but he has too. So it’s possible that he was trapped in the circus at an extremely young age. So of course he wouldn’t be all sunshine and rainbows. He would probably be rude, and if you think about it, you probably would be too.
I have a theory, he lost someone important because of an abstraction, and right now the only thing that matters to him is destroying everything that Cain creates, thus being able to have fun and do things to distract himself, and in the scene of Kaufmo's funeral he was thinking that he probably wouldn't have a funeral if the same thing happened to him.
i like how unforgivable he is, he's so pissy and i hope we get to see him get super disrespected later in the show
personally I went the opposite route, hated his personality episode 1 bc he felt like "ohh I'm a lovable jerk who has a secret bad past that will make u feel sorry for me and love me even more than u already dooo 🥺" type Tumblr sexyman bait. the moment he started acting pushy enough that people started hating him I actually felt a little interested, I like when jerks with emotional baggage are portrayed as jerks with emotional baggage, understandable in his emotional responses/ways of coping but still not portrayed in an acceptable light. hope he gets worse ❤❤
this situation is such a nothing burger like holy shit lol people will frfr get mad over anything
"Wah wah the character i emotionally kin with for no reason is actually meant to be a horrible person because the creator of the character wrote him this way!!"
The problem I had is it directly counteracts how he was portrayed in the pilot. This new side wasn't brought on smoothly enough and it feels like a different character at times. This is too forced for it's own good.
@@moewCalv
It's not a new side. He is EXACTLY the same as he was in the pilot. I even watched the pilot again recently. No difference.
Perhaps the people who thought he wasn't an asshole were bullies themselves?
@@cortster12 wouldn’t take it that far but yeah, it’s basically just continuing how he was in the pilot.
I mean, he put centipedes in Ragatha’s room, left Ragatha and Pomni to die, pushed Gangle and Kinger into the hole and let Zooble get eaten.
The Candy Canyon Kingdom, what with it being a completely seperate thing with some potential action lends itself well for Jax to push his games further.
@@cortster12 Think of a character as a shape with the faces being the key sides to their personalities. Some parts of your personality are more separated from the rest. When writing a character you want to reveal the faces adjacent to the ones you have already shown instead of going to a different area of the shape. If you do that you want to write the moment in two ways. 1) It's a shocking realization about a side of that behavior that the moment emphasizes. 2) You slowly work towards it by showing the faces between these two points. This does neither of that and cuts straight to the masochist face
@@Mikescool444 Putting centipedes in someone's room is not a life endangering moment. He left because he didn't care enough to stay there and help, and he knew that Kinger and Gangle would take forever to go down the hole so he moved the adventure along so he could see something happen. Also why would he help Zooble?
In this episode his treatment of Pomni is within the already established character but shooting NPCS with a shotgun when not provoked or letting the Fudge Monster into the kingdom is downright brutal and out of nowhere.
Honestly all of characters in TADC are so funny, but for being Jax being the Chaotic, Destruction and Death character it makes it more fun, especially when it comes to adventure like at the end of the second episode which was a success, he also get’s everyone in the candy kingdom killed, and i really like that lol
I get that Jax is downright dislikeable, but this is just ridiculous! If there are characters to be disliked just like people we dislike in the real world, then why treat it like it never happens?
I mean... The haters paint themselves worse than Jax at this point.
attacking Goose and Michael for how Jax is, is just BS like seriously, Goose wrote Jax this way for a reason and Michael just acts out what he's given.
I love Jax he's my favourite and I think people weren't prepared for Jax's real asshole of a personality to become more solid in later episodes just because he was a little less intense in the pilot, people just simply cannot handle a real 'chaotic bad boy' because of how media mellow them down.
I am personally so happy that Goose and Michael have decided to bite back and stand their ground, if people don't like what they see they can simply leave, sometimes shows like this just isn't for everyone and hell if just a few little people leave who gives a damn? this series has already had an amazing turn out for just TWO EPISODES.
Anyways, all my support goes to Goose, the VAs and the team! Love this show! Can't wait to see more!!
I feel like many believed jax was meant to be the funny, humorous lovable character, but in reality, he was just the annoying one.
Say you only like Jax’s voice and looks despite not actually “watching” the show.
“Why is Jax mean now?”
Jax in the Pilot,
“Ladies first… what am I saying?” *pushes over person and goes first*
How “not bad” of him.
I like that he’s the only sadistic one, it’s like they are all different types of insane.
That was sigma male behavior.
In the second episode he had beta cuck behavior.
(for reference I am joking)
I really liked his portrayal in ep2. He's an anti-hero of sorts. I assumed this is how he would be after the pilot and sure enough I was right.
Then again, I also saw from a mile away that Caine wouldn't let Gummigoo join the circus but that was apparently a "twist ending" to most people.
I still think he should remain longer as him abstracting in episode 3 would kill the mastery, I love his ass.
I never really liked Jax all that much.
But wow history repeats itself and now i could predict that as time goes on people are gonna become gooseworx and try to paint gooseworx as some evil corporate dicktator.
I see what you did there
I like how people use to like Jax and had a crush on him.but now they don't like anymore
I'm excited to see what comes of this show in the future it's one of my favorite UA-cam animated series so far the first two episodes have not disappointed and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series
While I am a bit upset with Jax after his nasty behavior I am actually in the middle of this controversy. I don't fully like him but I also don't full on hate him. His character has so much potential to mess around with. He could either get a really emotional redemption or he could become a threatening villain. (And if this show was a musical I swear he'd get the BEST villain song. Yes I've listened to the song Jax Toy and that's already an amazing song.) He's just got so much potential and I can't wait to see where Gooseworx takes Jax's character since she does have a soft spot for the guy.
He really is No Girl's Toy. Heheh, get it?
I've seen a few Raggedy Anne references in the second episode!
shove em push em throw em around but he’s no girls toy
@@RekEStore32 Which really gives the Michael Kovach "No Girl's Toy" meme more relevance.
Andy and Jax’s would probably be friends
“It was pretty obvious that jax was meant to be unlikeable from the beginning”
Yeah, and? Just because he was meant to be that, it doesn’t mean it was executed very well, in fact, it was executed so poorly in the pilot that it did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do, which that mistake wasn’t made in another show called “Meta Runner” the same studio made, Evelyn was meant to be unlikeable as hell, and guess what the fans thought of her, they hated her probably even more than intended, so when she got even more unlikeable in the 3rd season, it never felt like a downgrade, that of which I can’t say for jax in this show, in the pilot he wasn’t that bad, but in episode 2 he’s just pure unlikeable, THAT FEELS LIKE A DOWNGRADE NOT AN UPGRADE!
Tbh I thought Jax was mean from the beginning. I mean the guy literally walked over Gangles mask to break it even more; brought up ragatha's only fear for no reason and pushed gangle to the floor to get to the escalator first. If that's the sign of someone who isn't mean, I think people need to look at themselves in the mirror.
However I will say this, I hope someone gets revenge on him in a later episode. I'd love to see the look on his face when he gets a taste of his own medicine :p
The reason why he was chill in EP 1 since there is nothing to do rather catch some creatures roaming around the circus not only that one of them has been abstracted so he just watch the chaos unfold and causing it while in EP 2 he has opportunities to cause chaos and bloodshed since the candy canyon kingdom is a map with bunch of npcs so why not cause so trouble chaos and suffering sice there are no consequences and the map only has npcs living in there while being an asshole to others since they are in the digital world so they don't get killed except the npcs
I dunno. Jax wasn't focus in Episode 2. Pilot was about introduction of characters, so he was allowed to steal the show with his charisma.
And Episode 2 gave us more of Pomni's point of view. And I am glad Gooseworx does it so.... So correct? Yeah, proper and correct, those are the right words.
I feel like fans give Jax a pass because he's voiced by Kovach. Seriously, look at all the character Michael Kovach has voiced recently, they're all beloved; so it's natural that this one would be too.
Kafmo quite literally died and he brushed it off in ep1 and people didnt thing that was evil already 😭
Honestly, i dont mind it being character focused and not ore focused. as long as the world rules stay the same, im fine with whatever~
Why are people "surprised" at his character in the recent episode? He's literally a mean spirited asshole even in the pilot.
A lot of his fans really need to question their taste in healthy relationships...
As a Jax fan, I geniuenly like Jax because of his behaviour and episode 2 only made me like him more. It’s honestly funny how people really thought he wasn’t a jerk from the start
when *THAT* part of the fandom cannot differentiate between the canon version and the headcanon tumblr version.
My issue is just kind of how he took Fudge "dying". Like, the pilot gave the impression that he wants to look like he doesnt care, but he also likes to be in control. That's why he causes chaos, right? To be in control. The first thing he did after getting smacked in the face by a gloink was to control the situation, direct everyone on what to do. Obviously placing himself in the more controlled situation (without the unpredictable gloinks)
This is also probably why he collects keys.
So like, when he saw Kaufmo abstracted, he left, and went to the adventure, because its safe, and controllable. He initially didnt want to because the gloinks didnt seem controllable. But you know, in comparison, obviously the tides shifted on that front. When he met up with Gangle and Kinger he didnt mention Kaufmo abstracting, because then he wouldnt be in his safe and controlled situation hiding in the adventure. Note how he you know, immediately throws Kinger and Gangle into the hole, imposing what he wants to do next on them. Of course also saving his own skin by being underground.
The episode carries out a lot of those same things, dont get me wrong, he's constantly micro managing Gangle, even threatening her with blackmail. He gets mad when Pomni doesnt do what he asks. Even the scene in the funeral, he got emotional just talking about it, he doesnt want to show that, he doesnt want to be out of control of his emotions so he leaves. Etc etc. He was mostly in character.
Its just when Fudge got knocked out, Jax didnt lose control of the situation exactly, he just lost his end goal. But in the pilot we saw how he can pivot very easily, like in a dangerous situation no less. Suddenly he cant when there's no steaks? Instead brooding in misery?
I guess I can like *see it* you know, he is literally out of options as for causing chaos, he didnt get his way, so he's upset, but its just a bit much for what he was like in the pilot.
Its not even him being a jerk, its just he wasnt as much of a fun jerk in this episode. I dont think this will continue, he'll probably be fun throughout in the next episode, but it just didnt land for me.
You all really thought Jax was gonna be like the next sans/ funny troll guy (hes just a shitty person)
That's the problem with having such a massive time gap between episodes for a fan favorite that barely had enough time to develop. That mostly blank slate gets filled in more with fan canon than official lore to the point that the real character almost becomes alien to how the fanbase ended up perceiving them as.
I can’t believe that this character who’s existed for all of two episodes is acting OoC.
/s
i can't wait to see more jax i enjoy him and hope hr gets meaner as the show goes on
Same
Jax in the pilot: I just like things happening to people
Viewers: Wow, he is so friendly and cute
Jax in the second episode: *aids a mass murderer*
Viewers: Wow, I can't believe this soft, pure and innocent boi actually would do something to others. He is ruined now.
Yeh like in ep 1 we see jax put centipide on raghata, push kinger in hole for no reason we already know he is just jerk
My reaction to this drama is the same as Jax’s reaction to the Gloink queen’s monologue, it is seriously stupid that no one on one end realizes that Jax can cope with the circus by being an troll, rather than being a funny twink prankster
I actually like to split the thing with loving characters for their personality and loving characters for how they are written. Therefore, Jax is one of my favorite characters as I think he fits his role perfectly and is a great addition to the cast
I may not like him as a person, but certainly love him as a character
I’m just here to say that if anyone’s willing to get this emotionally invested into fake characters with fake lives in a fake world, they need to get a life of their own.
"Jax is an irredeemable asshole."
"Oh so he’s my bad boy can change tumblr sexyman uwu"
"No, I mean he’s an antisocial monster who will abuse others and readily commit atrocities for no purpose other than his own amusement."
Wb the Gumigoo backlash?
Dude he was literally the same in ep1 and 2
Still love his character tho
It’s not even drama. It’s expectations being shattered and people realizing that a fictional character designed to be a jerk is an actual jerk
I mean imo episode two as a whole felt weird/off/rushed in some aspecs (doesnt mean it wasnt a good episode, just saying) and Jax did feel weird in that episode but that doesnt mean I dont like the series or the episode people are being too rude about it honestly
I see so many people being disappointed that TADC won’t have a super lore-rich plot, but so few suggesting Murder Drones. It’s Glitch’s other current series and it’s amazing. It has the best plot I’ve ever seen, spoon feeds you none of it, and only gives you information that the characters have, and what they do, leading you to make your own conclusions. It also has some of the best characters I’ve ever seen. If that’s what you’re looking for, or really if you like TADC at all, give Murder Drones a chance.
You see when people like someone they idolize them as a perfect person
So clearly all the Jax’s simps were looking at him through rose tinted glasses and they shattered after watching episode two ✨✨
It did feel like Jax got amped up in his personality with episode 2. While in the Pilot/Episode 1, he seemed more like an apathetic and rude person, he got downright insulting, evil and bloodthirsty with Episode 2 (poor Gangle). Given that he's 22 years old, that behaviour could still be explained as just that of an unhinged young adolescent with anger issues, and while it is not how I expected him to develop (not that extreme, at least not that quickly), if it's that what Gooseworx had planned for him, then that's how it should be.
Accept that... he was the same in the pilot? He seems to have it out for Gangle specifically. He kicks her, shoves her, and insults her. This isn't a NEW.
@@BeckyNosferatu Yes, because her demeanor makes her an easy target to him. I still feel like he's way meaner and more aggressive in episode 2.
@@DracoCordraconisyeh in ep 2 jax already call her passive and weak even blackmail her for not rush the trunk .gangle already emotional weak who cannot resist toward anyone .she very perfect target for tax whereas ,agatha pomni zooble they resist toward him if he do stupid they were not perfect target to manipulate them for jax stuff
Damn, I’ve never seen a fandom hate a character for being the character. And not just for existing.
Jax isn't some "hot bully" guy, of course he has to be a big ass jerk, it wouldn't surprise me if he did something extremely unforgiveable in the series.
