lovely, just lovely. someday i hope to convince my matriarch to sound so good. i spent last year dealing with cancer and chemo and recovering but i've got my little studio set up a month ago now with my matriarch, my grandmother, my microfreak, and my model:cycles and i'm starting to learn, starting to play. in the meantime works like this give me something aim for. thank you.
Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that! I’m glad to hear you’re feeling ok. Hopefully you will be cancer free moving forward. The matriarch is a great synth and I think it doesn’t take much to get it to sing so hopefully you have no problem with it!
This is just sublime sir! I stumbled upon this last night, as I went to bed, searching for as much as I can devour on the Matriarch before I take the plunge and get one… This piece sent me drifting off into a peaceful slumber and upon reading your description just now, it blew me away! Belated happy birthday to your daughter, cherish those moments. I’ll be “devouring” the rest of your Matriarch videos for sure! A new sub here for thee, peace ✌️
@@MIDERA Yes I did, I’m smitten! What an incredible instrument and I’ve barely scratched the surface of the possibilities… Been getting some very pleasing results patching in my Subharmonicon, DFAM and MiniBrute 2S, I just wish I didn’t need to work or sleep!
Thanks. This was a fun track, though I’m always sad to come back here to read my description, as my daughter no longer wants me to be Captain Barnacles…
@Midera in your expert opinion and experience, would you rather take the Moog Matriarch or the PolyEvolver with you to a desert island? You can only take ONE ... 🤔
Well, first, I’m not an expert so I would probably not ask me anything. But personally, I get way more joy out of the matriarch than poly evolver. Obviously you can compare specs and the Poly Evolver is “better” in that it’s an actual polyphonic synth. But I find I have more fun with the Matriarch. That said, neither would be a desert island synth. That would go to the access virus.
Yeow, Captain! Happy Birthday to yours. My daughter turned 5 last week and Octonauts has been left behind. The capacity for synth-ing increases though, and I've the Reface CS to thank for that.
Beautiful. I almost bought a Matriarch the other day. Went to purchase an Argon 8M, almost left with the Moog. Honestly, I have no practical use for one, whereas the Argon fits into my live rig perfectly, but damn... If I were to make a purchase for the sake of luxury, it'd be one of these. Wonderful sound-design and playing here. Cheers!
The Argon has never really interested me, I think because my Virus TI covers the same ground. The thing I like about the matriarch is that it is so different from all of my other gear. I write completely different things with it. Definitely a personal favorite of mine. But it’s good we have choices and it sounds like the Argon was the right choice for you! I think it’s a bit cheaper too!!!
@@MIDERA Ya, the Argon is nearly half the price of the Matriarch. It was a purely pragmatic decision, to be sure. The Argon simply ticks the most boxes for my specific setup, but it's nowhere near the top of my list of favorites. My gear works for a living though (or rather, it used to, as I recall, before the pandemic), so it has to meet tighter protocols. Sometimes that's unfortunate. Haha... ;) Cheers!
Sounds absolutely stunning, Matriarchs delay paired with Blackhole sounds massive, lush ambiance. Getting ever closer to pulling the trigger on a Matriarch…. Thanks to you lol. Happy Birthday to your daughter btw.
Thanks :) I think you won’t regret the matriarch (though it depends on what you have already). I think it’s an excellent synth with a ton of interesting things to keep you busy for years.
@@MIDERA A DSI Pro 2 is the closest synth I have to the Matriarch, being 4 note paraphonic also, the Matriarch just seems so much more musical and engaging. Could get lost in it for days at a time I’m sure !
I’ve contemplated getting a Pro2, even with the Matriarch. I imagine they’re somewhat equivalent, but the Matriarch keeps me away from buying a Pro2. I would probably feel the same way if I had the Pro2!
I think my Prophet 10 or Virus TI are my favorites. But the Matriarch is wonderful. Actually, I’d probably rather have my SH-101 over the matriarch if I’m honest… just a lot simpler. But it’s hard to know considering I have them… I don’t know, would really have to think about it.
They ARE indeed patch cables. I wanted to figure out how to add a binaural effect. I actually have added patch cables before! I have a few videos of them added.
Hi Midera - I love this and it's funny as my kids are both obsessed with Octonauts. I have just ordered a Materiarch. Do you have any notes on the patch you could share
It’s very depressing, we showed our daughter How to Train Your Dragon, and now she’s obsessed and only wants to be a dragon and no longer cares about Octonauts. I’m very sad about it. Hmm… I don’t remember my patch settings. If I have any idea, I’ll let you know!
Have you found a good way to apply velocity modulation to Filter cutoff? Going through the mults to both Cutoff inputs works but the velocity sensitivity is so light. I couldn't find a way to change the sensitivity yet.
KB VEL OUT --> Utility input then utility output ---> Mult. Send Mult to Cutoff 1 (only) and set the attenuator to max? Does that work? Otherwise you could try to just send KB VEL OUT to Cutoff 1 and see how that works. I don't know though.

Sublime.
Great sounding patch. Performed perfectly. Cheers
Thanks :)
this is fantastic, very inspiring
Thanks!
happy birthday to your little one, she’s fortunate to have a father that has his priorities centered and talents to share
Thanks :) I’m not sure I have my priorities straight. I’m considering buying a Prophet 12 for gods sakes!
Midera, your playing and programming are phenomenal in this piece.
This performance is very emotionally moving.
Hey thanks! Much appreciated :)
Every dad by heart knows exactly what you expressed with your music. Thank you!
I hope so! Thanks for the kind words. Cheers :)
Brilliant. Nice to hear the Matriarch being played properly by a human. Looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks!!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊

Beautiful sounds and textures :)
Hey thanks GEOSynths :)
You are always lucid and careful to sound research. As always, congrats !!!

I will be totally depressed when my daughter gives up Octonauts… your daughter is playing your reface CS though???
A masterpiece !!!...

Beautiful 👍
Expensive synth but it's for me a true "instrument"
And happy birthday to your daughter 😉
Hey thanks! Yes, I agree, it's a great instrument. I would likely keep this over many others, because it is so unique.

Do it Craig. The Matriarch is the best synth I’ve ever owned. It’s a keeper.

Very nice! All onboard effects?
I think I’m using Eventide Blackhole on this one… thanks!
