Read Provos, Loyalists and Brits. Absolutely essential reading for a non biased view of the conflict.
@@user-br3bw7wr2l This morning I found the Chiffon Project by Peter Taylor on Audio to listen to while walking my dog. Great. It was the one and only Peter Taylor book on Audible, but I live in the States and It wasn’t allowed in my country.😡

@@ATLmodK Tbh the books were released in 1997 so it’s doubtful they’ve been narrated. There is of course the programs of the same name which are equally interesting.
Peter Taylors documentaries on the Troubles are unequaled. No bias, no agenda, just good hard open reporting.

Thank you, ATL, for making this Dutch American more informed and aware of the history, ongoing impact, cultures, viewpoints and experiences of all citizens of Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland (loyalists and republicans both).
As always, another really interesting documentary.

The woman's son later died in hospital a month later. 3 sons murdered for being Catholic.
Terrible. As a Unionist I think its horrendous that anyone thought they were above the law to take life or limb.
@Freddygotfingered84 agreed but the problem was the laws only applied to some and the state was involved in alot of these murders to some extent, so in a way some groups were above the law and operated with impunity.
@liamg1706 I know mate true, was horrendous conflict. Wouldn't call it a war like as no artillery/ships/fighter jets used but yea it was brutal. Just glad the children now a days never lived through it..

Loyalists achieved their aims, unlike so called Republicans, embarrassing.
@koeman1873 Loyalists started the conflict their only aim was hatred, discrimination ,murder and mahem. At the start of the conflict all republicans wanted was civil rights and defence in their areas against Loyalist murder mobs but in the end IRA fought the British to stale mate , a few hundred men against British army, RUC, Loyalist death squads , SAS ,mi5 .. and all in collusion together. And they were undefeated even if they didn't achieve every goal. The British themselves admitted the IRA could not be defeated so what's there to be embarrassed about. Inflicted nearly 4 times as much enemy casualties than they lost.
@@liamg1706 Grow up, the so called ira were defeated, their goal of a united ireland and the removal of the British from ireland failed, their politicans now help rule part of the UK, what a victory. True republicans are turning in their graves the way things ended up.
@koeman1873 the IRA took on of most formidable armys in the world and then some.. and couldnt be defeated.. what did loyalists do? target and murder random unarmed civilians. 90 % of their victims were innocent civilians. Maybe you should re-evaluate who should be embarrassed.
@koeman1873 how were they defeated? Not achieving all their aims isn't defeat you idiot. They fought to British into talks. How does it feel to be ruled by them now?
Unless you lived through these era you have no concept of what it was like. I grew up with the guns and bombs it became almost normal. The British putting the paras on the streets was the worst mistake the British government ever made or so I thought. Maggie then deployed the SAS. Remarkably times, I’m happy there is now peace, but the anger still boils under the surface.

Why do loyalists always call it Ulster like it’s a separate area when Ulster is nine counties?

Why did not British organise UN peacekeepers instead of using its own army, in 1970 it was I contend best for the UK to start to recede out of Ireland and in a fair, workable, appropriate way hand back govt to the Irish.

Ulster is Irish mate. Britain is across the water..
Ulster is a Province of Ireland and has 9 counties. Northern Ireland has 6 counties the other 3 are Monaghan, Donegal and Cavan are in the ROI. Therefore Ulster is NOT British
Ireland is Ireland ,Ulster is one of its 4 provinces. Britain are the uninvited raider/ occupier of Ireland.
Ulster ? Don't you mean Antrim and Down? That's the only part of Ireland where you might have a Unionist majority- but not for much longer
