Germany's President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, was in Turkey this week. He went to Turkey to try and help thaw the frosty ties between the two nations. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been at odds with the West for multiple reasons, like Sweden's entry into NATO and the Israel-Hamas War. Steinmeier's visit was supposed to mend ties between Germany and Turkey, and to champion that he brought along a gift. Steinmeier brought an entire Doner Kebab Skewer with him on his trip to Turkey. It was meant to showcase the cultural integration between Turks and Germans, but many thought that it was a racist stereotype.
