What would be super fun, would be if you did videos designing the home you chose (obviously digitally) and showing us room by room (or at least what pictures are posted on Zillow of the house) how you would renovate and style each room if you did actually own it!! Hopefully this is making sense lol great video, love this new series!!
love this idea!!
I love this idea! I vote yes
You know they say dont count your chickens before they are hatched but we dont eat meat in this household anyway so i say yes to this idea
Great idea - I would love to see that!
Do it to the house you picked here.
If you did Toronto and its suburbs, it would be fun watching you get angry from the bad renos and the ridiculous prices.
Yes!! But with $2 million I bet there are some real gems
I would LOVE to see a Toronto one, maybe 1.3 mil or something
hahahaha omg PLEASE do toronto, budget $1 million (CAD)
Beautiful red brick Victorian homes with white and grey renos!!! Not fun 😭
Oh no Vancouver is the same way if you want a detached single family. 😭
You could check out houses in Germany! They are built so different than all the American homes so that could be interesting ☺️ would love to see more of this series!!
I feel like she hates the modern and SO much is modern in DE. Would be funny to watch.
I would rather not hear a USian take on German houses 😂
Please do a UK version of this. I promise you it will be fun 😅
hahah UK house hunting is no joke!
Yes!!
Haha I was thinking the same but for the Berlin area. 😅
Do a London version of this. It won’t be fun.
London London London
I get so sad and stressed out thinking of when my parents sell my childhood home, there’s so much character with wood/brick, all the rooms are separated with doors/arches, I’m sure the person who buys it will tear all the walls out & paint over all the brick. A brick house near our house sold & the new owners tore half the brick out. It looked like a little cottage in a story book before. Now it looks half finished. Another tore apart the garden in the front and put in mulch. Another had a Spanish home, the new owners are talking about taking apart all the details that make it Spanish . I just don’t get these “updates” people prefer😅 this video is stressing me out, but I’ll finish watching because it’s you haha
why sell it then
@@user-qi3hf8ko3qit’s their house & they want to when they pass
@@destinynoel9714sorry to be nosy but why not give it to you when they pass?
@@user-qi3hf8ko3qthere’s 4 of us kids and my mom wants to split it with all of us like my grandma did for my dad & his siblings which I get but still money comes and goes, I tried talking her into keeping it in the family and just making it a rental at least but even that would be a lot to keep it between us
Don’t put that thought out there! I just found out my childhood home is back on the market and the current owners kept all the charm of the 1940s, they really only updated the kitchen.
You could get lucky!
I'm already excited about this series. It's like hypothetical House Hunters, but with someone with good taste and respect for original architecture so I'm not constantly yelling at the TV.
Haha, so true!
Amen!
This probably doesn’t sound fun to you, but if you’re looking for an extreme challenge…
I challenge you to find ONE house in Anchorage, Alaska that you like. Just one. Unlimited budget. I’m from there and the housing options are depressing as hell. Even the “nice” houses lack character and are so oddly designed.
I took you up on this challenge... And holy shit is it bleak
The $1.2 million 1965 house is pretty cool, although it needs a lot of work, in the bathrooms especially.
Detroit, Michigan at $500k or $600k max! Super historic places. Southeastern Michigan in general has some weird historic hidden gems...a lot of 1900s-1930s not-updated houses. Love this as a series!!!
It would be cool to see you pick out homes in Seattle since it there is a lot of craftsman bungalow architecture with a lot of natural wood. Housing in Seattle is pretty high but I think a budget of 1.5 to 2 mil would leverage some pretty cool results from neighborhoods such as ballard, fremont, queen anne, capitol hill, etc.
Haha! I love your commentary “ugh… people are gonna… ruin this place.” That’s exactly how it feels to go on Zillow. You can even compare homes to overpriced grayscale flips. It’s abominable what some flippers do.
It’s so sad seeing you go through all of these. Especially Highland Park which is where I graduated H.S. from and all of my family and friends still live there. My aunt lives up a beautiful hill and has for the last 20 years. She bought her home for 320,000 and it’s worth over a million now with very minimal updates. She did update her kitchen/bathroom and flooring to the horrible farm house style with millennial gray floors. They do not match the rest of the Spanish style interior at all. I seriously hate what they did because it’s so out of style now and they just did it 2 years ago. Every time I walked in there I saw so much potential for how it could be brought back to its glory and they stripped away the character. She also does have a small basement, which flooded earlier this year due to all of the rain. I still remember a time where all of these areas where places you didn’t necessarily want to live because of all the gang activity. It was affordable though for us Angelinos and now all of the charm of these areas is gone with the people who once inhabited these areas. I understand the pros of gentrification as it has cleaned the streets, literally from both grime and gangs, but it’s sad that it comes at the expense of generations who had history in these areas. 😢
we need more laws around gentrification 100%
@@wasselpait is not gentrification that raised the price girlllllll……
I live in nearby Lincoln Heights and always hoped to buy a house here. I lived in Lincoln Heights forever and honestly, the gangs never bothered me. I did so much community work in LH and worked hard to make my neighborhood better - but sadly, I don't think I can afford a house here. LH is Highland Park adjacent which means that people with money want to live here now. The comraderie of community, friendliness, and neighbors looking out for each other seems to be diminishing every year.
I don't blame individuals moving here (although they could be friendlier), but investors and those who seek profits from EVERYTHING.
I love your videos, Paige! ❤
I grew up in LA and it hurts my heart to see the horrible things people have done to lovely craftsman homes!
"people are going to ruin this place" I say that all the time when browsing homes.
I’d love to see you hop over to the east coast and do Boston for a budget of 1.75 mil. Not the burbs, but Boston proper neighborhoods and the adjacent small cities-a tight circle, like Boston, Allston, Cambridge. Brighton, Somerville, South Boston, Dorchester, Roslindale, East Boston, etc.
This video and concept is SO fun! It's nice to know I'm not the only person who browses zillow in my spare time for houses I will literally never buy. For the next city, I think Chicago would be cool. You could give us a digital tour of sorts with your favorite neighborhoods in the city, and the area where you grew up!
It's funny when I get frustrated that I can't find what I'm looking for, like I was going to buy it anyway.
yes to Chicago!!
Could we do a New Zealand version of this, not the city but the whole country!! That would be super exciting to watch and see what you make of the places over here!
I visited New Zealand last month and I would live in a shed there just for the view if it wasn't so far away from my family in the USA. It is beautiful!
I was blown away by the cute architectural details in Wellington, NZ when I was there last year! I'm sure the older homes there would be of interest to Paige. My friend's apartment was gorgeous!
Drew from LoneFox and Macenna really lucked out with their houses in LA. Stunning original features etc, and both are trying to bring back as much of the original as possible, with new cool things to modernise. Love your taste Paige, in anything❤
Not sure what Drew paid though - may have been less luck and more being able to afford it via youtube income?
True, but for that same money other UA-camrs would have bought a modern house with no character. He bought a gem
They didn’t buy in hipster neighborhoods.
Absolutely! But let's not forget that renovating their house is literally their job, so they can also get more income out of redoing a home that's old but still has character.
I think you should go to another city you’re familiar with so you can know which areas are desirable to live in.
Chicago would be great! I’d also love to see you do LA again but with a smaller or larger budget.
I feel like it would be super cool if you showed home renovations that you think are done well or if you had your subs send in videos of homes that they plan to renovate and then you give them tips on what you would do.
I live in Atlanta so it would be cool to see you do a vid about this area but honestly I feel like Midwestern cities would be neat, too. I like to look at cities like St. Louis, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, etc. Seems like some really cool old homes around those parts.
I also live in Atlanta, do the ATL!
@@megankilinski4580 Yes! Decatur, Viriginia/Highlands, Little Five Points, Buckhead, then head up to Dinwoody and Marietta. Stone Mountain!
I’m here for this, I live in Paris and this is my favorite lazy day activity 😂
you could get a beautiful apartment here for 1,5 million euros
Tip: put a filter on year built to get pre-1960 or so for a more interesting search. Seattle - 1.75M.
woah didn’t even know that was a thing, amazing
Can you do this exactly .. then have a part 2. Where you redecorate your choice? This was so fun... And the extra part 2 would be amazoballs
Cape Town, South Africa - $500k - $800k.
YES
YES please to this new series! I love looking at houses, any houses! I live in St. Louis and some of our more charming smaller cities on the outskirts of St. Louis city proper are: Webster Groves, Kirkwood, University City and Richmond Heights. I think you will find our prices a breath of fresh air.
wow i cant believe the first one you clicked was actually cool and unique. no matter the budget here in my part of florida EVERYTHING is white granite, painted white or grey, and stripped clean to be made into just a big empty open floorplan room. like i know that i can repaint a house but theyve also been gutted of their unique touches.
Love this series! You should try looking in Sweden/Scandinavia. People love keeping original features like amazing tile fireplaces. Prices in Stockholm can be steep, but there are some beautiful homes all over that are affordable.
Love the idea of this serie!!! Feels like I'm hanging out, just doing things I already love to do, but with you 😊 luv ur work
hanging out and browsing real estate is the ideal friendship!!
Also, love this concept! Would love to see you do other cities, or talk more in depth about how you would actually renovate a space.
Do Portland next! There are some incredible houses with so much character and a lot of people here appreciate design. So you’d be able to find a lot of mid century wood interiors 😊
Maine or Oregon?
@@kimmyhill ah! Oregon! Totally forgot to specify
Do Chicago next!!!!!
You have loads of suggestions and I would love to see all of them! Such a unique idea for a series, love it!!!
My cute one story childhood home in cheviot hills (next to culver city) got torn down a few years ago to build a cookie cutter two story home that looks like all of the other new builds in the area 😢 We used to have a big front yard that all the neighborhood kids would come play at but the new house was made as massive as possible leaving virtually no green space. Wish more people appreciated older homes.
*Very* familiar with this mostly post-WWII neighborhood. 😉
Lots of homes are being razed here to build farmhouse-style or ultra-modern mini-mansions. Some of the original homes are fairly large already and many have great views. It’s a beautiful, hilly, tree-lined area.
We spent many a summer swimming at the pool at Rancho Park in the early ‘70s and at Crystal’s on Robertson which used to be open to the public.
@@hereforit2347 Rancho Park was my bus stop and hangout spot!
No wonder so many people are homeless in LA these homes are so expensive and for what?!?!
No, so many homeless in LA because most come from other states for the weather.
@@NoOneHere2Day yup and the city is very accommodating to the homeless population.
@@miaomiaou_ Exactly.
What’s weird is you can get more bang for your buck in some areas on the west side than you can in Silverlake and Los Feliz. What’s crazy is Highland Park and especially Echo Park were not desirable at *ALL* until recently.
So good! I'd love to see Boston/Cambridge? maybe with a higher price range depending on whether you're going for a full brownstone/house instead of a flat, but personally when I stalk the flats (especially around beacon hill) I just set it to a 1-2bedroom for up to 1.5mil
I second Boston/Cambridge!
@@cassidyyates370 I third it!
Yes Boston!!!
Love this series so much already, and I second the idea to do episodes on how you’d design your newly “purchased” home.
I think it would be fun and challenging to find a place in some of the states in the US that you might not want to live or would have trouble finding a place. I’m thinking Florida beach houses, rural states/farmlands, etc! Also vote for New England proper, like Mass, Rhode Island, even Vermont.
New Orleans , Savannah or Charleston..... 3 great cities with character !
Oof, as long as they aren’t former plantations. I couldn’t stomach that kind of “character”.
Literally love this series!! Every morning I look at homes for sale in all areas! It’s an obsession really! You should definitely look at Lafayette, Orinda and Berkeley. You will love the homes!
For not cal Sonoma Windsor Russian river sebastopol healdsburg wine country. I had no idea that L A had gone up that much in value.
When I get fed up with looking at properties I can afford, I go and look at the top end. Usually I'm horrified at the bad taste and how badly they are laid out. Decor can be fixed reasonably easily, but layout is harder. Having to go through a room to get to the kitchen is the worst transgression. And then there is the question - How many bathrooms do you really want to clean?
At the top end are you really cleaning your own bathrooms? No is the answer.
Thats such a good idea. I find that sometime, many times, rich people have such terrible taste.
If you can afford the mortgage on a $2 million home you have a cleaner for sure 😅
Once again you have amazing taste!! Love this as a series too
My son and his girlfriend are moving to Paris in December. She will get a fat housing subsidy from her new job too. Currently they live in Dupont Circle in DC so they’re accustomed to insane housing budgets. Yes, I vote for Paris next. But even someplace like Kansas City or Charlotte NC would be interesting too because a lot of people *have to move* for their jobs etc. To get dropped into a place where almost everything is cookie cutter is a real challenge.
Would love to see more videos in the “check out this Fucking home” series. Really loved seeing realistic homes as well as your commentary to understand why they’re so great from a design lens.
I think Montreal could be really fun for you, like on an island, not suburbs. It has very particular architecture and mix of built form not typical for North America.
paris, new york, berlin?
We sold my mom's house several years ago and the couple who bought it are really cool and nice. Last year my brother stopped by and just knocked on the door and they invited him in. He took pictures of what they'd done (so far) and it's pretty much the opposite of my parents' taste, but it's cool. For example, my mom had actually walled over our fireplace and the new owners freed the fireplace again!
never clicked so fast!! i’ve been waiting hahaha luv ya paige! this is great content ❤❤❤
Berlin - 1,5 M
Okay, as someone who is literally doing this right now, this was extremely entertaining to watch. You should do more of these!
This was delicious!!! Please do a LONG series of these. You could do every state!! It would be sooooo fun!
Doing a video on L.A. homes for 1m or less including the neighborhoods you selected but also (and more likely) others that are more affordable like Glendale, AltaDena, Alhambra, Pasadena, Tujunga, etc. would be helpful/ fun to see in this market.
Was going to say, she's sleeping on Altadena, Pasadena (in some parts), Montrose, and Alhambra. They're farther out, but you get more for your money. $1M would be difficult in those places, but you'd get a sweet house for $1.5M-2.
When you were talking about the sqft around 4:24 you were looking at the lot size, not the home's sqft - the home's sqft is right by the price :)
I was listening while making dinner and I was like holy shit that's an insanely large home lol.
I love this series idea, it would be really cool if you could look abroad too! It would be so fun to check out Lisbon, Nice, Milan, etc!
Paige I wasn’t sure if I liked you at first, but like a nice mat of moss, you grew on me! And I mean that in a nice way because if I could replace my lawn with moss I would do it in a heartbeat! I think this this series is a great idea, and interested in one for very low budget in a not so expensive area as well.
You should do a series where people send you houses on Zillow in their area! Could be fun to compare price & architectural styles of different regions. I live in Tucson, AZ and there are really cool, unique homes that would be fun to share.
LOVE this video and really hope it becomes a series. I'd love to see the spots you find and like in Atlanta or even a up and coming southern city like Charlotte, NC
I would strip all the paint off of that kitchen. It's probably all solid wood! Keep what you can.✌
Oooh this feels a bit like house hunters! The thing I like about that show is seeing what you can get for a certain price overseas. I'd love to see you do international locations too. I live in South Africa and would love to see what you think of the places you could find for a million dollars in Cape Town!
Obviously you gotta do Chicago next!! Don't forget about your midwest roots. I live in central IL so not sure what a good budget would be but do something low!
I also do this all the time! It’s less fun here in Greece tho because the houses are quite a lot uglier here, even the multi million ones.
I want to see what a Paige kitchen and bathroom would look like if you had to gut renovate and start from scratch. If you had to take something and start over, I want to see that.
Minneapolis and St Paul proper would be super cool with all of the historic neighborhoods. I just did the legit house hunt and yes, some people really f’ed up some lovely turn of the century homes… but then others are out of this world restored beautifully
Love this series!! I miss your home updates though. Your cool home is my inspo 😊
Wohooo so excited for this 🎉
loved this! super fun!
Oh, Pleaseee, continue this as a series on this channel! And do Paris, and many more other locations! I’d love to see your critics on Rio.
you committed a crime eliminating the beautiful mid-century modern home. it was so pretty
this might be a bit too random but my boyfriend and I are in the process of moving to Japan and buying a house in the countryside (you can buy a whole ass house for like 50-100K depending on size and how decrepit they are) to renovate. I would love to see you do a video on that! Plus the houses are super cool out there, some are over 100 years old.
Loved this vid. I wanna see more cities, any cities. I feel like you'd find more awe-worthy homes in less pricey cities.
Please do one in Cape Town! Would be fun to see what you think of our housing market (and houses) here. Love your show ❤ x Maya
Do Brooklyn with the same budget.
the choices will be SLIM lol
I loved this video, Paige! New Orleans would be a cool one to do.
I’d love to see you do this with a south eastern town, like Greenville or Charleston SC, or Franklin TN or the like, I feel like it would be interesting since housing costs are lower and there’s lots of new builds alongside really historic buildings🤪
PLEASE DO MORE OF THESE. and i would watch a full hour. Heck, livestream it. So fun
This was so fun…..I love Paige rambling
The go-to site in Canada isn't Zillow, BUT... I sold my old house in Feb. 2021, bought my current (and forever) home in Oct. 2021, and during the search I got addicted to reloading our version of Zillow like 100 times daily. It's now two years later and I STILL HAVE NOT STOPPED. It's a compulsion. I even get excited when I get to see inside a house I've noticed walking around and was curious about lol
Loved this! I'm always interested in real estate in other areas and with my husband from Southern California, this is especially interesting. Also, I love you choice! definitely the most character with the most potential. We live in the suburbs of Tampa and I'm always looking on Zillow just to see what's out there...
Mmmmm! Fodder for the dream home! I can tell I'm going to love this series
im about $2 million short of buying a $2 million house right now, but if the chance arises i'll know what to look for! thanks paige!!
I loved this! I stopped the video in the middle so I could do this in places I’m interested in! Fun!
The one you found FIRST! Loved it!!
I live in Tucson AZ, but I peruse Zillow for homes in Chicago and Seattle. I am also interested in some areas of Michigan, as well as Madison, WI. I would love to see this series expand to other cities. I trust you to pick out an interesting place. This was very enjoyable, I love your content!
Michigan has some hidden gems of neighborhoods!
Ooh I'd love one in Tucson, too! I love some of the architecture there.
@@hannajane It's true - we have some beautiful Spanish gems here in Tucson! I myself have a Spanish house with some arches and other very unique features. Yeah Paige come to Tucson via Zillow!
@@susanlawrence6986 another tucsonan here! also seconding for paige to come over to tucson. for me, the only thing that stopped me from buying an older home is that I just didn't want to have to re-do the insulation. it gets hot hot here 🥵
Chicago next?
Yes, Chicago, but only in the city!
This is such a great video idea. I love it already.
I was about to comment that you should do Paris next as I’m from there and would love to see your take on it right when you mentioned it in the outro lol
PLEASE do Portland OR with $750,000 budget. There are some cool old homes here ❤❤❤
A+ I loved this video even when I totally disagreed with every choice😂. More please! How about New Orleans, stick with the $2 Million, go around the world with that price point. So fun🎉
You could do a “what can you get in (insert city) for 2,000,000? Then choose maybe 3 different cities to see how far the $$$ go. I would like to see maybe Dallas, and Nashville. I would have chosen the same house you did.
i’d like to see same budget, maybe major cities from different continents
I can't believe Paige didn't look at Mount Washington, there are a lot of cool houses up there. Eagle Rock is great too, especially since she looked at Highland Park
Love this series idea! It was fun to see you talk through all the things you would do or keep etc… i love all the little Spanish style houses down there, I think I’d get sucked in by the character and forget about location lol
I live just outside of Vancouver, BC in Canada. Our housing prices are insane. I would love to see you do a video of homes here.
Oh hey fellow Vancouverite! Some of the $2,000,000 options here would be absolutely comical to look at.
@@natatatt absolutely!
The mid century in the hills were 🧡 the gray with the round window view🥰
Can u do an in depth vid on how you would remodel certain rooms you find on a site like this that might be fun
Obsessed with this series! Please do Chicago next!!! ❤
Was excited about the Chicago vid!
Seattle please, it would be so interesting to watch!
this is the best follow up to the mansion video
Where is the mansion video?
This was great! Looking forward to more.
You should check out Lexington, KY with a 2 million budget. I used to live there and holy shit. The houses are so cheap and full of so much character.
you should do philly!! so many beautiful homes of different styles- especially victorian homes!! lots of older homes use a type of stone particular to philly on the outside and have stained glass and lots of character...it would be a fun episode!
Loved this idea for a series!
