The slow suspenseful introduction of the Forgotten Beast was SO good... and I loved the reveal that the reason Northbridge has been having such "good luck" with Forgotten Beasts is that the Amphibian Men have been an unknown line of defense this whole time. I guess if your civilization emerged alongside them in the caverns, you have to pick up a few things. Maybe the reason they're so bad at fighting dwarves in comparison is just because they've never had to deal with them before-- technically speaking, Northbridge dwarves are an invasive species to the area!
To be fair, we dont' like the older videos for the quality of the Video. You are an excellent story teller, Krugg. Even with the rough early things. The passion comes through and, while I can only speak for myself, I appreciate that greatly. It's a major draw.
Thank you very much! Certainly is an ambitious idea. I really haven't done something like this before! It's been great fun trying to figure out how to get it all to work.
so... now we know why the frog people kept throwing their bodies into your defenses. whatever lurks in the depths is a lot scarier. also I feel like its time for a crossbow squad if the elves keep attacking with flying creatures, what also means the bridge entrance could be turned into a kill box.
You know, I keep hearing things about the marksdwarves and how they might be screwed up these days. I suppose it'd serve me to look into it instead of just avoiding them altogether lol. It *would* be a good idea.
@@kruggsmash If I recall the bug is that non-archer uniforms [I.E. Metal uniform, Archer uniform, etc] don't have the quiver and you can't apparently add the quiver to work properly. Probably create the squad from the basis of the archer uniform, then remove the rest? Hope that helps.
Haha hey thanks! I really really liked drawing more of these guys. I might have to do another monster-hunting fort at some point in the near future, eh? that'd be great.
on your closing remarks of the lack of other DF creators even after the steam release: I will say, making stories out of DF ain't easy. You have grown acustommed to researching the guts of your generater world, to understand the politics, cultures, and to weave it all together into a cohesive story in your mind you can tell us, but the truth is after watching your scorchfountain series which I absurdly loved, I tried to let myself be carried away by DF myself (back before 1.0) and I just... wasn't able to. I downloaded third party tools to see the map, learn the cultures, I read about the music and dance my people liked, their gods and religion ,it was fascinating, but it was also so much information to weave into an story in the elegant way that you do as you narrate us. Regardless of the updated graphics, DF is a beast that in it's sheer complexity it's not easy to make stories out of, you just got lots of skill in it.
Your older videos are sick. Don't knock em. It's all amazing content that single-handedly made me buy the game. And now I adore the game. Youre a champion.
Yes, it made it look even better than I imagined it! Love the stories, and the world this is set in (I believe this is the third fortress in this world?)
Krugg, you saved my morning. This is exactly what I needed before my appointment today. The art & narration is awesome as always, can't wait to finish the rest of the video. 👍
It feels so in character for Vabok to have a petty rivalry with a local mischevious child! He's like the fort's grumpy uncle. Also, it's great to hear you're doing so well!
Goblin Snatcher: "Must. Bring. Child. Home." Dwarf Kid: "Must. Finish. Artifact. Crafting." If he had succeeded, he likely would have ended up with a Insane child anyway.
The bridge is such a unique and cool idea. I also appreciate that it's a mostly above ground fortress as a change of pace. And as always your drawings add so much charm to these
I love the attention to detail when it comes to culture in this series. The different outfits for people from different regions, the repeating hexagon motif used in Northbridge designs, the differences between the Doctrine and Order of Silver, the faces on the shields, and the little "retirement bead" that retired soldiers get. It makes the world seem so cohesive
Well between the King joining your fortress, the ongoing war with the elves, the military manpower shortages, and the inevitable goblin war… The base level magnificence of the Fort as well…. There’s lots of story left to play out here. Perhaps some retaliatory raids on the elves? As well after the Goblins are dealt with you could always continue digging. Lots of FUN to be found below as you know well 😂
I like the idea of selecting the correct personalities for soldiers from a lore perspective, it fits my image of the dwarves of Northbridge, meticulous with an eye for the long term. I hope it works mechanically
Good to here you’re in a good place with your work schedule. Also 28:11 I love the way you designed this Zebra forgotten beast and made it aquatic looking.
Man. Krugg doin' well, neat fortress, rotund dwarven children, calling on others to explore their creative side. Just such an enjoyable experience overall. After recently rewatching Murderhall/Watermaster again it's so damn refreshing to hear that you're happy with where you're at finally.
Animation! The fly invasion at the very beginning being animated is a huge step. It's so encouraging that soooo much more work is going into this series than like Honeystoker, and you're in a comfortable place doing it. Just awesome. Can't wait to see what's next for you.
I adore how the amphibians have apparently slain so many forgotten beasts. They're a Damocles sword, annoying to constantly fend off, but great protection against unwanted visitors. Kind of like the spiders in my room.
You should be proud of what you accomplished here! I even try to recommend you to people who dont know the game because the storytelling and mood is so relaxing and interesting!
Man your videos are for me on one level with Internet historien , even if they dont come out every other day. Knowing you live a better life really makes me happy and enjoy them even more.
Vanrikenstien creator of that soft art of the dwarf walking by the ocean gazing at the bridge, I just want to say. 👏👏👏 Absolutely fantastic piece of art. Truly the finest of craftsmanship.
Love your story telling, and art. The whole package you have put together is wonderful. When I was a kid, we used to listen to stories on tape when we went to bed. This has that same calm feeling. Thank you Kruggsmash.
I am here for the rat-goblins. The greed, malice, and opulence of their people are PALPABLE in your art! I love it!! I also love your elves especially their trade envoy. I feel like you captured how the dwarfs see elves. Mysterious and unsettling!
This is really quite something, this fortress. I've watched you for a very long time, and this is just... I don't know. This series is "only" 7 episodes longs at this point, but it feels like home! I am so impressed by how many different aspects you are developing in this fortress simultaneously, my goblin brain can usually only work on 1 major project at a time in my fortresses. Looking forward to the next one!

Hey Krugg, just wanted to send you some encouragement that this is one of the few currently running series on youtube that I will stop whatever I have playing to run. Its got everything I want in a Dwarf Fortress video, megastructures, roleplaying(? at least as much can be done in fortress mode) fun art, good editing. IF you keep making them, I'll keep watching 'em.
A longtime fan but infrequent commenter. Wanted to come out of the woodwork to say, l agree - Northbridge is a glorious fortress. ❤ The jewel windows alone must make living there quite visually dazzling. Like the impact of stained glass windows on the medieval mind.
5 min in, stopping to comment. I have recently had so many flying elves in one of my fortress. I had never seen so many giant flies, giant cockroaches, giant butterflies. What I did to counter them was towers with underground access, so I could send archer squads and station them there. Post episode comment: fantastic art by Vanrikenstien there. That view from the western bank is just amazing!
Another wonderful episode of Northbridge! What an epic fortress, I'm always looking forward to the next episode. And shoutout to the continuing quality of your illustrations, they really add so much!
Shoot Krugg, your art is just over the top on this episode! Great work! Loving the progress of this fortress, and the geopolitical struggles of this valiant band! Also, excellent advice about how to start making content for aspiring DF content creators! Cheers!
I can't help but feel like everything in this series is going so...smoothly! You've got a gorgeous, intricate construction just dripping with wealth, sieges that have been fairly easily repelled, and forgotten beasts that die in the caverns. When's the other shoe gonna drop?
35:04 WOW...Thanks Krugg, I feel much better about My own fence building now. Jokes aside, I have enjoyed your content for years, hope to for years to come.
hi krugg, i gotta say i agreed with you wholeheartedly regarding the lack of dwarf fortress stories on youtube, in fact this kind of storytelling content was exactly what i was seeking when i found your youtube channel the other night! i love the art and coloring, please keep being an inspiration!
I just love the fact that Rigòth was apparently so heavy that the goblin snatcher trying to kidnap him couldn’t run away fast enough to escape.
Master! I'm trying to kidnap a dwarven child, but the weight of his asscheecks keeps slowing me down!

Such good luck indeed, must be a blessing from the cragg children
It does make the world feel alive.
Man, the Fishmen are secretly badasses, wish there was a way to send an Emissary or Ambassador to Properly Ally with them.

Stories require a storyteller, and while many of us love Dwarf Fortress, few can spin a yarn as you do Krugg.
I greatly enjoy your work!
Agreed 100%. By far the best bars of the mountain homes!
The Amphibian men are responsible for the lack of Forgotten Beasts, what a twist!
