Aemon wasn't actually in the Nights Watch when he declined the throne, he went to the Watch to ensure his brothers rule wouldn't be questioned since he was older.
@@AlwaysRightAllNight yea the show deleted a king for some reason in the books aegon the 5th aemons brother was areys grandfather not his father not sure why they did that .
Funny sidenote: the executives at HBO gave a greenlight to the show and didn’t read every script in detail. They wanted a name actor to be the face on all the marketing materials. That is why you see Sean Bean on every poster, DVD box, ad, etc. There were two senior vice presidents that were royally pissed off that their expensive marketing campaign had to be rebuilt for the next season, because Ned Stark was dead.
There are two details about thisepiside that I think are worth pointing out to new viewers, since they are easy to miss in all the emotional intensity, One is that the man Ned said "Baelor" to was the Night's Watch recruiter, in town to pick up thieves and such to bring back to the wall. Ned points him to the statue as a signal that the man should help Arya in any way possible, no matter what's about to happen. As a Nights Watch man of the North, he would feel personally duty bound to help Ned in this very personal way -- as opposed, say, to trying to free Ned. Ned's basically saying, "Take care of my daughter." There other detail worth noting is that Cersei and the other "adults in the room" had worked out a deal whereby Ned would validate Joffrey's claim but not be too harshly punished, certainly not killed. This would perhaps help put an early stop to the war. It's kind of what the eunuch Varys suggested to Ned -- confess and bend the knee, not necessarily because it's right, but to spare the kingdom a bloody war. So when Joffrey calls for Ned's head, we see Cersei trying to argue with him. It's not really what she wanted, She can be hateful, but she's not entirely stupid. Unfortunately, she's maneuvered her psychopathic son onto the throne and controlling him isn't going to be easy.
yeah, thats one of the first indications that this show isn't going to go quite as you expect it to. Well done, ladies!! I enjoy rewatching this with you all!
they all are naturally funny, but trying to make jokes and talking over the important dialog isn't helping them keep up with the plot - still fun watching their reactions though - good luck the rest of the way ladies!
Ned did die with honour though. He sacrificed others' perception of his honour in order to protect his daughters; he knew he was going to die. He kept his honour by doing so, kerk
Maester Aemon was born well down the order of succession during the reign of his Grandfather Daeron the Good. Daeron had 4 sons, Baelor, Aerys, Rhaegel, Maekar. Baelor had two sons Valarr and Matarys. All 3 died before Daeron. So Aerys succeeded. Aerys was childless, Rhaegel had two children, the twins Aelor and Aelora. Again. All 3 predeceased Aerys. so Maekar became King. Maekar had 4 sons, Daeron, Aerion, Aemon, Aegon. By the time Maekar died only Aemon and Aegon were left. The Great Council offered the throne to Aemon, but he refused saying they should crown Aegon instead before leaving Kings Landing for the Wall and the Night's Watch so he could not be used in plots against his younger brother. Aegon was called the Unlikely. Because he was the 4th son of a 4th son and thus incredibly unlikely to ever rule.
Ned gave up his honor bc he thought he was saving his children. I think he always knew he was going to die but he thought if he said what they wanted they would spare his girls. “If you think this story has a happy ending you haven’t been paying attention” Remember Ned though bc I believe the entire story, his children and what they could become and who they are go right back to him. Good luck with the channel ladies & hold on to your seats, now you are going for a wild ride!! Be well ❤
Are you guys going to react to the lore of Game of Thrones Season 1? I would recommend watching/reacting to the lore for each season because it provides much needed context and background for this show and will enhance your watching experience.
I couldn’t wait, skipped straight to the ending moments of the episode to watch it first. But I’ll check out the rest haha. I can tell from Stephanie’s smiles she’s been waiting for it too.
The episode title Baelor is in reference to the Great Sept of Baelor, a location in King's Landing. The Sept was the center for religious worship of The Seven. Baelor was a previous Targaryen king who was known for his zealous and piety.
Just add on to it for non-language nerds. Since there are seven gods and septem means 7 in Latin, Martin chose Sept as the name for any "church" dedicated to the Seven Gods. Towns and castles in Westeros have Septs in the same way they had churches and chapels in our world.
... And it was said that on this day the Sweet Summer Children had grown, but only by a little. For in the true spirit of giving, the Game of Thrones has yet more lessons of growth to give. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 🎄

The high Lords of westeros begged Aemon to take the throne because Aegon cared too much for the people and he didn't have good relationship with the lords. And just to correct the show and to impress you how old Aemon is: So Aemon is the big brother of King Aegon V Targaryen, Aegon V's son was King Jaehaerys II Targaryen, and then Jaehaerys's son was the Mad King, Aerys II. Aemon was the Granduncle of the mad king (in the book version actually the great-granduncle). He had not already taken two oaths when he was offered the throne. Aemon's father was a younger son of the king, and he had several brothers, soother was no expectation of him ever becoming King. However, his uncle died without direct heirs, and all Aemon's brothers except his younger brother Aegon had died (in a civil war I known as the Blackfyre rebellion, one involving a claim to the throne by an illegitimate Targaryen son), and Aegon was young and inexperienced, so the Great Council of Nobles offered him the crown, even though he had taken Maester’s wows. He turned them down, and to forestall any further intrigue or uncertainty he then joined the Night’s Watch. In this way there would be no other claimants to the throne, other than his youngest brother. Since Aegon was the youngest son of the the youngest son, and originally was way down in the line of succession, he became ace known as Aegon the Unlikely.

The one who passes the sentence should swing the sword. We started episode 1 with Ned chopping off the head of that kid from the Nights Watch with the same sword he just got beheaded with.
I love all of GOT, but luckily this is my favorite episode of the entire series, so i get to see reactors react to it early in their journey. Love the videos
They Skipped 1 generation of Targayen King , In the show actually. Maester AEMON had His Younger Brother KING AEGON V TARGARYEN crowned When he refused the Throne. King AEGON V , was Succeded by his son JAEHAERYS II TARGARYEN. AERYS "The MAD KING" was Jaehaerys' SON. So The MAD KING was MAESTER AEMON'S GRAD NEPHEW.
For whatever reason they removed one king from the story, So Aemon is the uncle to Aerys II father. Aemon had had 3 brothers and his father became king cause everyone else died, then all his oldest children died, so there was a succesion problem and none wanted the older siblings to inherit cause they were girls or infants or kids of a bad sibling. Aemon was a maester so he couldnt be king or anything else. Aemons father was a 4th son so low in the inhertitence chain. None wanted Aegon on the throne cause he wanted peasents and smallfolk to have rights and other protections. So Aemon's youngest brother became king after Aemon joined the night's watch so there was a 100% certainty he couldnt claim the throne. So Aegon became king known as Aegon the Unlikely cause he was the 4th son of a 4th son. King Aegon V had bunch of kids and his children died except one who became king and his son is the mad king.
Hey guys I love your videos! Merry Christmas as well ;) I have a question! Will you guys be watching the Histories and Lore for Season 1? I really hope you guys do, it's on youtube for FREE! There's NO copyright either! So you can watch the whole thing freely! I think you guys really should, it'd answer so many questions!!
For anyone with a strong feel for justice this show can be hard to watch sometimes. Let's hope for some silver lining. I wish you all a happy Christmas and all the best for the new year from the Netherlands!
20:15 Not all men want to be king. Power like that isn't all it's cracked up to be. Aemon wanted to be a learn'd man who actually made a difference in the world. He wanted to serve, not rule. 20:34 That's crazy 🤣 really
I appreciate your reactions. Aemon is known to be one of the most honorable people in the seven kingdoms in all time. He did not refuse the throne for any selfish motives known, definitely nothing to do with his sexuality or orientation, and he refused the throne much before the oath of Night's Watch. It is relevant that Maester's vow refrains anyone from lordship, claim on land and forces celibacy, but unlike Night's Watch oath it does not take away the right of crown. The action was purely selfless.
his wife should not be paid attention to by anyone... she literally got him killed herself (along with her squealing daughter sansa). Any fool that follows Cersei's advice deserves their fate. Ned followed Varys advice in the end, but the evil lying conniving lanisters broke the deal (because they did not control their child king).
"Bay-Lore".....lol....i like it.....saddly wrong.....but cute Baelor i love all the names......there are so many names that are the same as names today in real life (just spelt differently)....and then there are names that are COMPLETELY different, to give that "fantasy and other worldly" feel
Welcome to GoT Ashley and Lindsay. In this show, anybody can be killed. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Also, the spoiler was presented in E1; Sean Bean in the opening credits.
Aemon Targaryen refused the throne and then went to be a Maester, he gave the Throne to his Younger Brother Aegon the V. All explained in the Tale of Dunk and Egg books,
He was already a maester, but to avoid any factions making intrigue, he then also joined the Night’s Watch. In this way he aimed to reinforce his younger brother Aegon’s (legitimate) claim to the throne. Aegon was the fourth son of a fourth son to a king, and as such was, young, inexperienced in national politics, and a relatively political unknown. Amen was older, better known, and as a Maester, vastly more educated. Nobody, least of all Aegon himself, had ever expected Aegon to become king. He basically grew up as the squire of a poor hedgeknight (that is, a knight who was not in the permanent service of any particular lord). I really wish that the Dunk and Egg books had been adapted for television by HBO.
@@rookis25 I said nothing about who he went with, or when. When he went to the Wall with Brendan Rivers he was already a Maester. He did not take his Maester’;s wow as a response to being offered the throne, he pledged his services as a Maester to the Nights Watch. There is no contradiction in this. Also, he didn’t “give” the throne to his brother, as one can only give something one already possesses. He did not abdicate the throne in favor of his brother, all he gave up to his brother was any potential claim to the throne. The Grand council then agreed to make Aegon King.
You are making excellent progress with these episodes and getting them posted very quickly. Well done. It definitely makes it easy to get into your channel quickly. I feel like we've been hanging out all week.
I can't take it anymore! Lindsay (short hair) is making jokes & talking so much, not only does she confuse the person next to her, but so much is being missed! Then she has to keep asking questions about the stuff she's missed because she was joking around! This will be my last episode w/u guys. The annoyance is real! Merry Christmas. 🙄 0:53
Yep, for anyone still clinging to the idea that this show was going to be Lord-Of-The-Rings-With-More-Sex, this was their "I don't think we're in Kansas any more" moment...😈
Finally someone besides me is asking the important questions! Why does Varys, as a eunuch who was castrated as a child, have a deep voice? (Ditto for the Unsullied.) I think this is the first time I've actually seen someone else ask that question. Like, I get it that the actors are not actually eunuchs, but we have technology that can increase the pitch of a voice digitally so that it would sound accurate for a eunuch who was castrated as a child, AND there are recordings of some of the last castrato singers that could be used as a reference point for that.
This is actually a valid question. In the books, Varys is described as having a high pitched voice, so the seemingly obvious answer is that the show simply didn't want to compromise the range of the actor. However, it's a little more complicated than that, as Varys' voice in the books is _also_ described as deeper when in private and going "mask off" so to speak. In the books, Varys disguises himself at times and his voice changes, and during both his conversation to Ned in the Black Cells and a later scene, his voice gets deeper all of a sudden. So there's an implication that the feminine, disarming eunuch is just another role he plays to seem harmless at court. The whole point of being a eunuch is that he can't father successors and thus is naturally barred from taking power, so he's not a threat. It _could_ be that the eunuch persona is entirely just a persona. Or more likely, given his mummer background and penchant for disguises, he's simply trained himself to modify his voice to fit a persona for any given situation. His normal dialogue in the books is also much more exaggerated than in the show. He's very giggly, very stereotypically feminine. So it's possible he's making his voice even higher pitched than his normal castrated voice in the books and his real voice is only relatively deeper, not deep.
something to remember... at the time the cast was a bunch of NOBODIES (a decent number went on to star in other shows and movies). Except for Sean Bean (famous for getting killed on screen). Alot of folks could not believe that the main "star" of the show didn't make the full season.
Sean Bean wasn't yet famous for getting killed. He was killed on screen as Boromir in The Fellowship of the Ring, but one on screen death is hardly a pattern. He had had a long running series, Sharpe's War, in which he was a rough around the edges, plainspoken but heart of gold honourable character... so viewers had plenty of reason to think he'd be the lead for this show. The memes about him always playing characters that die started with Game of Thrones.

Maester Aemon was the son of Maekar, his brother Aegon ruled after him. Aegon was succeeded by Jaheryes, and then Ayers.
Aemmon was the next heir in line, and when his time came to take it, he refused, and let his brother take it, then went to the wall.😊
I hope we get a Dunk and Egg show one day.

There are two details about thisepiside that I think are worth pointing out to new viewers, since they are easy to miss in all the emotional intensity, One is that the man Ned said "Baelor" to was the Night's Watch recruiter, in town to pick up thieves and such to bring back to the wall. Ned did die with honour though. He sacrificed others' perception of his honour in order to protect his daughters; he knew he was going to die. He kept his honour by doing so, kerk
I think he was truly shocked that Joffrey went back on his word. But yes, he didn’t confess to save his own life but that of his daughters.
Maester Aemon was born well down the order of succession during the reign of his Grandfather Daeron the Good.
Daeron had 4 sons, Baelor, Aerys, Rhaegel, Maekar.

Aegon was called the Unlikely. Because he was the 4th son of a 4th son and thus incredibly unlikely to ever rule.
You explained it better and more accurately than I could.
The showrunners decided to remove a generation of Targaryens. In the books, Aemon's brother Aegon was the Mad King's grandfather, not his father.
You’re totally right!

poor Ned. traded honor to save his family. best character of all 8 seasons in my eyes. RIP Eddard.
ned stark's final victory - saving Arya.surprising how many people don't notice this event!!
he refused the throne because he's blind; he didn't think it would be right wise and just for a blind person to sit on the throne and rule
Cersei looking worried for what will happen, Littlefinger smiling and Varys trying to stop the execution were amazing details

Thanks for the insight!!
@@MugShotzReactsyes in the books there's one more king before areys who's named jaeharys 2nd not sure why the show removed him .
References Shakespeare. Doesn't know what a bard is.
We have approximate knowledge of many things 🤣
Hey guys I love your videos! Merry Christmas as well ;) I have a question! Will you guys be watching the Histories and Lore for Season 1? I really hope you guys do, it's on youtube for FREE! There's NO copyright either! So you can watch the whole thing freely! I think you guys really should, it'd answer so many questions!!
We will! Merry Christmas!!!
For anyone with a strong feel for justice this show can be hard to watch sometimes. Let's hope for some silver lining.
I wish you all a happy Christmas and all the best for the new year from the Netherlands!
Happy Christmas to you!!
I wasn't surprised Ned died. It's Sean Bean, when doesn't he die.
You’re totally right! They haven’t seen Sean Bean’s other demises either though!!
I think you guys know exactly what’s going on lol
Septs are like churches. Baelor was a pious Targaryen king.
Baelor the Blessed! 😇
20:15 Not all men want to be king. Power like that isn't all it's cracked up to be. Aemon wanted to be a learn'd man who actually made a difference in the world. He wanted to serve, not rule.
20:34 That's crazy 🤣 really
Kings land there. When they skydive😂 if she only knew
😆
I appreciate your reactions. Aemon is known to be one of the most honorable people in the seven kingdoms in all time. He did not refuse the throne for any selfish motives known, definitely nothing to do with his sexuality or orientation, and he refused the throne much before the oath of Night's Watch. It is relevant that Maester's vow refrains anyone from lordship, claim on land and forces celibacy, but unlike Night's Watch oath it does not take away the right of crown. The action was purely selfless.
Merry Christmas ladies!
Merry Christmas!!
In the first episode Ned cuts off the deserter's head without any mercy, in this episode it's his turn.
Merry Christmas to the three of you
Merry Christmas!!!
Ned didn't act on the advice from his wife, Queen Cersei, and Lord Varys and consequently he got what he deserved.
his wife should not be paid attention to by anyone... she literally got him killed herself (along with her squealing daughter sansa). Any fool that follows Cersei's advice deserves their fate. Ned followed Varys advice in the end, but the evil lying conniving lanisters broke the deal (because they did not control their child king).
Well done ladies!!
New Sub. Love the reactions. Cant wait for more episodes!!
Welcome aboard!
Where are these creatures from?😂😅
"Bay-Lore".....lol....i like it.....saddly wrong.....but cute
Baelor
i love all the names......there are so many names that are the same as names today in real life (just spelt differently)....and then there are names that are COMPLETELY different, to give that "fantasy and other worldly" feel
Welcome to GoT Ashley and Lindsay. In this show, anybody can be killed. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Also, the spoiler was presented in E1; Sean Bean in the opening credits.
😝
Are you planning on reacting to the history and lore videos? I’d love to see Lindsey’s notes on that one, she may need a bigger notebook!
Yes we are!!
I thought Tyrion got hit with the hammer the guy was holding not the boots i guess the boots made more sense for his minor injuries lol 😂
Totally!
@@fordhouse8b nah he went with Brytnden Rivers to the wall, ur wrong
@@rookis25 I said nothing about who he went with, or when. When he went to the Wall with Brendan Rivers he was already a Maester. He did not take his Maester’;s wow as a response to being offered the throne, he pledged his services as a Maester to the Nights Watch. There is no contradiction in this. Also, he didn’t “give” the throne to his brother, as one can only give something one already possesses. He did not abdicate the throne in favor of his brother, all he gave up to his brother was any potential claim to the throne. The Grand council then agreed to make Aegon King.
ur wrong bro@@fordhouse8b
@@rookis25 Per the Wiki of Westeros:
"Aemon began training to be a maester when he was 9 or 10 years old, and FINISHED HIS STUDIES WHEN HE WAS 19, during the reign of his uncle King Aerys I (Pycelle was only a baby at the time). The Dunk and Egg short stories begin about two years after Aemon left to train at the Citadel, so while he is alive in that timeframe he does not prominently appear (though his brothers do). When he received his chain of office, Aemon's father asked him to come to King's Landing to serve on his small council, but fearing that this would cause him to clash with the Grand Maester, Aemon chose instead to serve as at Dragonstone. AEMON JOINED THE NIGHT'S WATCH WHEN HE WAS 35, FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF HIS FATHER AND SUCCESSION OF AEGON V, meaning that by the time Jon Snow joined the Night's Watch Aemon had been at the Wall for about 65 years.”
Per A Wiki of Ice and Fire:
Aemon forged his chain and was MADE A MAESTER, FINISHING HIS STUDIES AT THE AGE OF NINETEEN.{REF|AWOIAF|AEMON}} Maester Aemon then served at a lordling's court.[2] After succeeding to the Iron Throne, King Maekar I Targaryen summoned Aemon and his brothers to court. Not wanting to sit on the small council as he felt that would displace the Grand Maester, Aemon chose instead to serve at Dragonstone, the seat of his eldest brother, Prince Daeron, until Daeron died of the pox.[4]
A Great Council was called in 233 AC after Maekar's death in the Peake Uprising. Since Prince Aegon was considered by some lords to be "half a peasant, it was suggested that Aemon could be released from his sworn vows and thereby succeed his late father. Aemon quietly refused, however, ceding rule to his younger brother, who became Aegon V.[15] Princess Rhaelle, Aegon's young daughter, referred to Aemon as "Uncle Maester".[1]
Night's Watch
Maester Aemon in Castle Black, by Amok ©
"AEMON CHOSE TO GO TO THE WALL AND JOIN THE NIGHT'S WATCH FOR FEAR THAT HE MIGHT BE USED IN A PLOT TO USURP HIS BROTHER, KING AEGON V TARGARYEN. THE KING PROVIDED AEMON WITH AN "HONOR GUARD" (EMPTYING THE DUNGEONS) TO TAKE THE VOWS OF THE WATCH WITH HIM. Among them were Brynden Rivers, who later went on to become Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, and many of the Raven's Teeth. Aegon's friend, Ser Duncan the Tall, accompanied the new recruits aboard the Golden Dragon on the way to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea."
As you can (hopefully) read, he took his Night’s Watch wows AFTER Aegon was already the king.
You are making excellent progress with these episodes and getting them posted very quickly. Well done. It definitely makes it easy to get into your channel quickly. I feel like we've been hanging out all week.
Glad you enjoy it!
Goodbye, you won’t be missed 😌
Maybe if the jokes were at least good but honestly it's just guffaw after guffaw from the one on the right laughing at her own jokes
@@sarameira7226 don't underestimate the value of one viewer/subscriber. What she said is true, stuff like this can make or break a channel.
At this point you realize you are no longer a summer child and that no character is safe…
Merry Christmas.
@@michaelhenry3234 Thank you for that great, detailed background for those of us who haven't read the books (yet)!!!
I didnt know Tupac Shakur was in this show?! Im surely gonna watch! lol
This is when this show gets good and episode 10 is excellent.
Lol, you've only begun to hate Joffry.
😏
Great reaction girls!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Did you notice the sword Payne used was Neds?
something to remember... at the time the cast was a bunch of NOBODIES (a decent number went on to star in other shows and movies). Except for Sean Bean (famous for getting killed on screen). Alot of folks could not believe that the main "star" of the show didn't make the full season.
So true! It's hard to see these actors as nobodies now!
So noone is else is still wondering about the "-raki" part of her theory?!
🤣
A rack. But with ropes, like the Huns
Finally!!!! OMG!!!!
And this is only the first season ;)
So much more to come!!!
Merry Christmas! ❤❤❤ 😢😮
