  • In today's video, I would like to talk about a new addition to my collection - the new Zodiac Super Sea Wolf in its brightest configuration. This 200m diver gives a very interesting combination of technical innovation and classic charm.

    Another great review Armand, accurate factual and as always, very interesting. Zodiac really are producing wonderful watches. I have owned a Zodiac Sea Dragon for the last 3 years (it is a brilliant watch) and am currently awaiting delivery, via our friends at Page & Cooper, of a Super Sea Wolf Skin 53 on the metal bracelet - Can't wait!! Thanks again Armand

    Thanks for bringing this watch to our attention. Somehow Zodiac seems to get "lost" in the fog of all the dive watches currently in production. But they do have a fine heritage to be proud of and it looks as if they are on firm ground now and producing some excellent watches.

    There is something of the Fifty Fathoms about this Zodiac's style. That is always a good thing.

    • @DCGarage
      @DCGarage 4 роки тому

      The original Zodiac Sea Wolf came out just after the Fifty Fathoms in 1953! Both keep that vintage aesthetic, but I like that this has a much more modest case width (and price haha). I am strongly considering replacing my Fifty Five Fathoms with one of these.

    I have my Zodiac grandrally silver blue on as I watch this video . Albeit a quartz , not automatic , I still love it . Incredible fit and finish for the money you pay from Zodiac . Congrats , the Sea Wolf looks fantastic! Love that color scheme. Myself , I am more drawn to the orange white version .

    Zodiac is an interesting brand... but I think it's misleading for them to say since 1882 when the brand went bankrupt, stopped making watches completely, and was bought and restarted by a completely different group of people... it's literally a new company, or rather part of FOSSIL that just bought the rights to an old company's name. Zodiac used to compete with Rolex, Omega, and Doxa back in the day when divers first came into fashion.
    Questions: Are they using/building watches in the old Zodiac factory? Are they even building watches in the same town? Do they have any of the same watch makers?

      Good point. Seems they are all at unfortunately (ALS, A&S, Breitling, brequet, bovet, etc etc etc). Fossil likely figure if swatch etc can get away with it (e.g. jaquet droz), JCBiver can make his fortune buying the blancpain name (only the name) and doing same, it's open season. Agree with you, the real date wouldn't go amiss.

    Lovely use of pastel colours. Absolutely Sublime. However I do feel they dropped the ball in just one area. We have a sapphire bezel that is NOT fully lumed. There are quite a few microbrands now that are producing beautifully fully lumed bezel at compartively affordable price points, including Straton, NTH, Magrette and Prometheus to name a few.

    19:53 That's the only thing that gives me pause with Zodiac. I wonder if it can really be a lifetime piece and be serviced well into the future after that given model is discontinued. Very cool watch though.

  • @khronokraze
    @khronokraze 5 років тому

    Overall, it's a very nice watch. I like the colors here. it's colorful, but not overly.
    The bracelet is quite nice, but if I had to make a personal gripe about it, I feel the curvy nature of the jubilee style doesn't quite match the rest of the watch which is so straight lined and angular. I've seen this watch, or very similar one, reviewed by Average Bros at least a year ago, probably a little over, and I had that same complaint about the detail back then. If I had the watch, I'd probalbly get used to the combination in time, i think. But as it is and looking at it as an outsider, I can't help but feel the bracelet looks like a seperate identity from the main watch case in design concept.. for me, a bit of a dischord .. I would probably change it out for something like an engineer bracelet or even a hexad oyster that has more angle faceted edges to go in line with the straight case design of the super sea wolf.
    Too bad you can't see i the swan neck regulator which is unusual for a timepiece at the level and pricepoint it is at which is a good thing that it has it.. not so much that you can't see it.

    Its as if Zodiac had a bring your child to work today and somehow the child's design using hideous colours made its way into a production run. If on the other hand they are making these for the partially sighted consumer, great job, nailed it!

      @cedarcanoe 5 років тому +1

      I am not exactly a kid, and I don't get it why you're bringing up that issue. My problem is that Armand has been hiding the fact that he is releasing sponsored reviews every now and then. He may do so of course, everyone needs to get paid for his job. But just admit that he gets to keep the watch afterwards, or gets a fixed amount of money for the review, or that he gets a % of the sales that happen through his link.

    • @jaysikes4256
      @jaysikes4256 5 років тому

      I have a crappy little channel with few subs/poor production values, but even I have been approached by watch companies with free/discounted offers to make vids on their watches. It's very difficult to feature a variety of different watches on ones channel sans some form of sponsorship, discount, lending etc. from a watch company. I don't condone the practice of stealth marketing, and I just assume every watch channel that reviews a good variety of different watches (especially entry level pieces) is "on the grift", LOL.

    • @ElCajondePepillo
      @ElCajondePepillo 5 років тому +1

      @@cedarcanoe Sometimes I watch "The Time Teller" and I think he is not honest about being sponsored also, but to be honest I don't care at all because there is no way I will buy a Pantor, Sea-Gull or any microbrand that he recommend. That's the reason I was saying that about being a kid, but sure maybe someone that it's new on the watch world can be influenced, in that case; I'm totally biased but, I prefer the influenced guy get a Zodiac before an irrelevant and sometimes overpriced Pantor or etc. Have a nice day!.

    A very nice looking watch but.....at $1400 (as per the website), this watch is seriously overpriced and is nothing but a "look at my new watch that I paid too much for" accessory. There are too many better watches for the price. Better yet, go buy an original Zodiac and have a true piece of history instead of owning a watch from a watch group that sells in department stores.

    • @grumpyoldman2380
      @grumpyoldman2380 3 роки тому +1

      @I how much are those watches? And who's foolish enough to spend $9k for an Omega at Costco (and yes, I have personally seen one in a California store). Now to my point, why would you spend $1400 for that watch? You can spend that much on a early 70's Seamaster in excellent shape. There are literally dozens of watches that are far below that price that are just as nice or even better.
